If you are seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of high rise and overcrowded resorts on Spain's sunshine coast, then a break in Benahavis could be just the sanctuary you crave. A traditional Andalucian hamlet nestled in the heart of the La Serrania de Ronda mountain range, the quaint village of Benahavis has remained largely unscathed by the large scale ugly developments that now scar the southern coast. Located just 7km from the coast, this hidden gem of a village is located between Marbella, Estepona and Ronda and just 10 minutes from thke exclusive marina town of Puerto Banus. Benahavis enjoys sunshine and warm temperatures all year round and Malaga International Airport is a 45 minute commute and is accessible by a regular bus service, hire-car or taxi. The village is surrounded by natural parkland and its winding streets contain a plethora of quality restaurants and tapas bars, which has led to Benahavis being called the ‘dining room of the Costa del Sol’.

Notes on accommodation: Every room has full air conditioning and heating if necessary. The property is fully furnished and equipped with every conceivable mod con, including internet, fax machine, direct dial telephones a multi room and outdoor stereo system which broadcasts Irish and English radio stations and satellite sky TV in English. Ideal for families or groups. Benahavis is often referred to as the dining room of the Costa del Sol, though with up to a dozen Golf courses in the village. Outside: Villa de Summerville boasts extensive mature gardens (tended to year round by a dedicated gardener) which surround the house, and contain equal amounts of sunny and shaded areas. The entire site is inconspicuously walled and fenced, offering total security, while the large palm, fig, grapefruit and orange trees are further complemented by shrubs and bright flowers which adorn the garden, and offer complete privacy. The 9 meter x 5 meter swimming pool is on a patio overlooking the town in a part of the garden that captures the most sunshine, yet it is conveniently right beside the living area of the house, and is cleaned daily. Plenty of sun-loungers are scattered by the pool, while a traditional barbeque is build into the rustic terracotta patio nearby, alongside plenty of high-quality outdoor tables and chairs. This patio is surrounded by plants and flowers, and is typical of a true garden setting from the surrounding Andalucían area of Spain. Secure parking for several cars. Utility Room: In the utility room there is a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron, board and a clothes line is located just outside the back door. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linens are provided and the property is thoroughly cleaned with towels, linen etc changed over before every arrival. Other: Upstairs, is a large tv area with specially designed couch to seat 10 people also DVD , and small balcony 3 bedrooms upstairs have small balconies overlooking pool area Master bedroom with large bathroom is on ground floor All have large wardrobes

Perfect for family

I was very much dragged on this holiday as I do not enjoy the sun, heat or beaches. I prefer peace and culture. the property is huge, every room is a decent size. Multiple showers / baths / toilets. Worked perfectly for our large group ranging in age from 6 months to 56.

The exterior is beautifully maintained and varied. The swimming pool is the right size with the right amount of shade. There are several seating areas at different levels. 3 barbecues which worked great. The pool loungers are very comfortable and sturdy too.

The interior was quite a shock, the decorations are stunning. A wide mix of all sorts of things, we kept finding new things to study even on the last day. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Again there is seating all over the place, I loved the upstairs lounge area which has a very modern tv I was able to plug my xbox one into. There's air conditioning in Al,let every single room which all operate separately so it works for everybody.

I can't begin to explain just how peaceful it is laying by the pool. All you can hear is the birds flying around, the odd lizard and whoever you are talking to. We had a large group who all enjoy different things at different times and we all had a great time as we had the space to do our own thing but the comfort to do it together too.

Apologies for the length (and rambling) of this review but it was joint best holiday I've ever had. When you get there, there is a guest book full to the brim with glowing reviews you can read for yourself.

Soul Food

Villa Summerville is a rustic delight; a piece of real Spain yet close to the jet set if that's what you want. Peaceful, tucked away, a quick walk from the village centre. Wonderful, private pool, aircon, towels, satellite TV, outdoor music system, barbecue, lots of outdoor seating areas. The garden is set on a hill side, carefully tended. You've local support if you need anything. We know this area well having owned a villa in the village for 12 years. We needed something bigger for a family holiday and Villa Summerville ticked all our boxes. There are so many beaches along the coast. Lots of excellent food in the village. And a village pool where for €2 a day you can be a bit more sociable and enjoy the food at the poolside restaurant.

Located just 7km from the coast.


Malaga International Airport is a 45 minute commute and is accessible by a regular bus service, hire car or taxi. Gibraltar is less than an hour south of Benahavis while a short ride will bring you to the exclusive resort of Puerto Banus. Marbella is also close by. Benahavis stands 500m above sea level and is reached by driving from San Pedro through the Rio Guadalmina gorge up into the hills.
