A further walk (or drive) takes you into the medieval bastide village of Penne D'Agenais (about 20 – 25 minutes up the hill walking) with its quaint streets and some artisan shops and its beautiful domed church that can be seen for miles around, it is next to the ruined fortifications built by Richard the Lionheart. Here you can also choose from several quality restaurants, with out the need of using a car.

You can walk (or drive) to the nearby river Lot with its various water sports, including motor boats and canoes/ kayaks which are available for hire from Port de Penne, there are boat trips and wonderful views. About Sarah Wigmore

Domaine de France is run by resident owners Paul and Sarah Wigmore. Paul is a former teacher, Sarah an assistant Director of a housing company. Married with two now adult daughters and grandchildren. We have only moved to France recently from Devon, England, where we had lived and worked for over 30 years.

We are also happy to teach English to local people here in Lot et Garonne. We run and manage the self catering gites and the B&B ourselves and look forward to our life here.

As we live in the 'Maison de Maitre', we are on hand to suggest places to visit, give directions, deliver bread, or just leave visitors to enjoy their stay in the knowledge that if help is needed, we are here.

Sarah Wigmore purchased this barn in 2017

Why Sarah Wigmore chose Penne-d'Agenais

We discovered this unspoilt region of Lot et Garonne originally on our holidays and just kept coming back. We enjoyed visiting the beautiful villages, the numerous markets, the chateaux and the wonderful food. The local people are very friendly and welcoming, especially to "Les Anglais" if they are prepared to speak (or try to speak) french and to integrate into the community. It is easily accessed from all the airports of SW France, Bergerac & Agen are the closest. The countryside is magnificent yet the Lot Valley is relatively undiscovered when compared with the Dordogne. So for a relaxed break away from the stresses of life, Domaine de France is ideally located.

What makes this barn unique

The location of the property relative to the village gives us the best of two worlds. We have a tranquil rural outlook with views of Penne bourg, yet it is only 10 minutes walk to our favourite restaurant and a further 10 minutes to the old medieval village centre. It is uphill going to Penne from home, but downhill for the return, you could drive up and walk back (collect the car in the morning!!) We can help to organise your stay, booking tickets to local fetes, arranging someone to cook for you or just leave you to enjoy your stay with a cool bottle of local wine.
