Second Floor Apartment With Balcony And Sea Views

Updated: 10-Oct-2016
Apartment by sea 5 minutes walk to Arrifana surf beach on Western Algarve.

The apartment is situated in the small fishing village of Arrifana and is 5 mins walk to the beach. This sheltered, undeveloped and stunning bay is ‘one of the top ten surf beaches in Europe’ (Guardian Travel). From Faro airport takes 1hr 15 mins, to Lagos 35 mins and to the nearby town of Aljezur 10 mins. There are 5 cafe/restaurants, some with sea views, and small supermarkets are a few minutes drive away. The historic market town of Aljezur has restaurants, supermarkets, bank, post office and a market where you can buy fresh local vegetables and fish. There are several other beaches nearby, the nearest being 10 minutes drive away. Arrifana is one of only a few uncommercialised seaside villages left in the Algarve and is situated in the middle of the conservation area of Parque Natural de Costa Vincentina which boasts miles of stunning coastline and breathtaking un-commercialised beaches.

About the Owner

We have lived in rural Gloucestershire since 1995 and before that London. We are both now working part time as freelance management development trainers and facilitators. We bought the apartment in 2005 when our surf mad kids were in their early teens. We wanted unspoilt Algarve and Simon came across Arrifana on a trip in 2003. He raved about the area and about how breathtaking and undeveloped it was. Since then we have had several family and extended family holidays here and to my surprise the teenagers loved it as much as we do. They would disappear off to body board, fish or just muck about on the beach or in the rock pools. We adults would body board, go to the market, go off exploring other nearby beaches or just hang out in the cafes or on Arrifana beach. Standing in the ruined fort on the cliffs at Arrifana watching the sunset is magical - a spectacle every evening. And then we have to pack up and come back to rainy UK!

'We really enjoyed the peace and quite of early spring in Algarve. I do love your apartment and think you have thought of absolutely everything to make the stay memorable. Impressed with the location, so many wonderful beaches so close. Arrifana beach is stunning'

"A comfortable apartment - everything we needed. The kitchen was well equipped." "A nice balcony with good views over sea and countryside. Well located towards cliff point, quiet end of village, near several restaurants all walking distance and very close by. The beach is walking distance - beautiful with lovely waves. We visited the area mid September, it was lovely, sunny and quiet, perfect place for a relaxing holiday but also plenty to do."

"Well-equipped, good-sized appartment in a great location. Arrifana beach is the best beach in an area of superb beaches, and being within easy walking distance was fantastic. Liked Arrifana very much - a proper community, albeit small, rather than a tourist enclave. "

Lovely, well-kept apartment with fantastic view

  • 5 of 5

The apartment makes you feel at home instantly and is the perfect choice for a relaxing holiday somewhere off the crowded tourist areas of the Algarve. Arrifana itself is a neat and calm village with a beautiful beach embedded in a lovely and largely untouched landscape.

It was a pleasure to get to know our dear host Elaine and we were provided with all sorts of helpful information concerning the apartment, Arrifana and its surroundings. The apartment is clean, fully equipped (no ifs, not buts!) and exceeded our expectations easily.

We are thankful for the wonderful time we had and will not hesitate to come back. We are already missing the fresh, salty air in the mornings, breakfast including ocean view and the delicious local cuisine.

Thanks a lot and greetings from Germany!

Very comfortable apartment in great location

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in Arrifana, the apartment had everything you needed. Would have liked to have used communal area but no seating and BBQ area not very clean. There is a good selection of restaurants nearby, loved O Paulos, which is only a five minute walk from the apartment. Enjoyed visiting all of the local beaches especially Amoreira beach.

very nice apartement in a wonderful surrounding

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this apartment. We enjoyed the sea view and had breakfast on the balcony in the morning sun every day.

Rita, the manager there, was very friendly, she even gave us some food for the first breakfast and cared for us in a professional way.

We did hiking on the cliff paths with grand views, for example the nests of storcks on the cliffs. The end of May is a beautiful season, because many flowers are blooming.

We visited different beaches and could not really tell which is the best one. Arrifana beach is bright.

We can recommend the restaurant Paulo, but it is a little bit expensive. We had excellent meals at the restaurant Oceano, only a few meters distance from the apartement.

We also liked very much the small villages Aljezur and Odeceixe.

Everything in this holiday was perfect.

Great Apartment

  • 4 of 5

We loved the apartment, we found it really well equipped (especially the salad spinner) I’m going to have to buy one! The only thing we felt we could have done with was a little heater as it was quite chilly in the evenings but apart from that everything was perfect. The kids went surfing every day, its such a great spot being so close to the beach. Rita was very pleasant and helpful. Looking forward to coming back next year!

Thank you for our stay.

From the Owner

When we visited Arrifana we were impressed by its simplicity and dramatic coastal surroundings. The apartment is situated in a simple village where the area is unspoilt and the land and seascapes are breathtaking. The apartment is fresh, clean and welcoming. There is sea view from the balcony and views to the fort, sea and sunset from the kitchen and public balcony. The climate is fresher than in south Algarve as there is always a breeze. The beach is quiet except in August, when all the Portuguese arrive from Lisbon. If we want liveliness - Lagos is only 40 min drive away.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Faro at 100 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Oceana at 20 Metres Nearest Train : Lagos at 40 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : N22 at 30 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : O Paulo at 30 Metres Nearest Beach : Arrifana at 500 Metres Car: necessary

It is a 5 minute walk down to Arrifana beach - a clean and stunning sheltered bay that attracts bathers and surfers. You can hire surf equipment and have surf lessons on the beach. There is a lovely beach cafe with lovely sea views. They have live music some evenings. A 5 minute walk in the opposite direction takes you to the harbour where local fishermen land their catch. There are cliff top walks with views of rugged dramatic coastline. 3 minutes walk are some ancient ruins overlooking dramatic coastline - people come here to watch breathtaking sunsets and some then have a drink or dinner at O Paulo, beside the fort. From the apartment you can explore the hilltop tracks and woodland that lead to miles of stunning and uninhabited coastline and panoramic views. I can give you directions as it is hard to find and worth exploring.

10 minutes drive from the apartment is another beautiful and unspoilt beach of Monte Clerigo and 15 minutes drive further north is the beach of Amoreira. There are lovely beach side restaurant / cafes and lovely walks especially when the tide is out.

There are 2 local tennis courts in Valle de Telha - 5 minutes drive away, that can be booked at a low cost.

If you want a change of surf beach - Amado is 20 minutes drive south - well worth a visit.

There are 7 restaurants / cafes in Arrifana, all typically Portuguese offering different price ranges and some different styles of food. Some offer breakfast. The nearest offers fish and Portuguese tapas (petiscos). Most have wifi connection.

Local towns:

The nearest market town is historic Aljezur - a 15 minute drive away. Old Aljezur is built round a 1000 year old ancient Arabic fort. It has typically Portuguese cafes and restaurants (cheaper prices than at the coast) as well as supermarkets, bank, post office and a market where you can buy fresh local vegetables and fish. It has an ancient Moorish hill fort with panoramic views to sea and inland over fertile farmland and mountains beyond.

The nearest small supermarket in Valle de Telha, 5 minutes drive away. The nearest resort town on south coast is Lagos (40 minutes drive). this is where you have a choice of golf courses. Lagos is a lively town which has still managed to retain its character and history. You can meander in the evening through the narrow back streets or walk along the promenade to the marina. To the west of Lagos there are some beautiful beaches like O Camilo that are hidden in coves and are famous for their dramatic rock structures - they are the beaches you often see in brochures. There are boat tours from the lighthouse that explore the caves and breathtaking rock formations. There are daily boat trips from Lagos around the coast to the end of Europe - with stunning rock formations, dolphins, bird and wild life.

The historic mountain town of Monchique is 45 mins drive where you can have panoramic views of Algarve, while eating the local speciality of chicken piri piri.

You can drive for about 40 minutes to the furthest westerly point of Europe - to the town of Sagres and beyond - it is dramatic and wild with much bird life.

From the Owner

If you want rest and relaxation or sea sport and action they you can have it all here. A benefit of the apartment is its proximity to the beach - 5 min walk downhill. No car to load and unload - so people can come and go as they please. If you want to sunbathe, rest or read on the balcony, there is sun or shade and sea view. It is within easy reach of other equally stunning but different beaches for either walking or surfing - all with nice cafes. There are 7 very good traditional Portuguese restaurants - so if you don't want to cook or drive - you can stagger home from a different one each night (on a one week's stay!). There is a lovely well equipped communal BBQ patio area. The village is unspoilt and there is little development, no high rise apartments and so it is much quieter and rural than in the southern Algarve. There is a mix of traditional fishermen's cottages, local houses and well designed holiday homes and apartments.
