The Creek House offers flexible 5 star accommodation for large groups of family and/or friends, whether it is for a week or two as a family holiday or a weekend get together for a special occasion. The house sleeps up to twelve people in five bedrooms and has two bathrooms and two shower rooms (four in total) and is Ideal for up to three families, groups of up to five couples or friends, it is well suited for all age groups. Ideally situated on a quiet private road, a ten minute walk away from Southwold's pretty town centre with it's lovely boutique shops, art galleries, hotels and restaurants. The beautiful sandy beach with it's colourful beach huts and stylish pier is within a mile of the property. The house is presented and maintained to an extremely high standard and recently achieved it's 4th 5 star Gold Award by Visit Britain for Quality in Tourism. About Julia Shorthouse

My name is Julia Shorthouse, I first discovered Southwold in August 2006 and it was love at first sight! I was so impressed with Southwold and the surrounding area, I took my husband for a visit and managed to persuade him, without difficulty, that Southwold would be the perfect place for a holiday home where we could all spend quality time. After a year of searching we found The Creek House, which was very different to how it looks today! It was a very tired run down house which needed a full refurbishment, but it was in such a fabulous position with lovely views of Southwold. We set out to create a house which is the best of it's kind, where every detail has been thought of, and which our guests enjoy as much as we do!

Why Julia Shorthouse chose Suffolk

Southwold is a beautiful town, completely unspolit, with a fabulous sandy beach. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and we can leave our cars parked on the drive at The Creek House for days and just walk or cycle everywhere. Southwold has great restaurants and pubs as well as the Adnams Brewery, really nice shops and Englands best pier. We always leave feeling refreshed, with our batteries recharged and looking at the diary to see when we can visit again!

What makes this house unique

The large sociable kitchen, living dining room is great, everyone can join in with cooking, and also enjoy eating outside or barbequeing on the garden terrace. The variety of seating areas means nobody gets under each others feet and the driveway (with careful parking) can accommodate up to 5 cars so nobody has to worry about finding a space. The house has flexible accommodation as follows:

First Floor:

Good size Sitting room with two large sofas and wall mounted TV leading onto a large balcony with fabulous views across fields to Southwold.

Kingsize room with balcony and ensuite bathroom with shower over bath.

Twin room with bathroom adjacent to the bedroom with shower over the bath.

Ground floor: (wheelchair friendly with wide doors)

2 Kingsize rooms with a third bedroom which can either be made into a Kingsize bed or two single beds with additional bunkbeds (this room can sleep up to four people).

From January 2017, there are two shower rooms on the ground floor with wide doors for wheelchair access.

With the added benefit of an additional ground floor shower room from January 2017, there are now a total of four bathrooms at the house.

The Creek House's location on the edge of Southwold means we can enjoy all the benefits of the town, its beach and harbour, and then come home to enjoy the large gardens or just chill out with a glass of wine and savour the views of the town. I love waking up to see dawn break through the large bifold doors in the master bedroom, and watching the changing skies as I savour my first cup of coffee from the terrace. Our children love bringing their friends down to stay and never say they are bored!

Notes on accommodation: The house works well for two or three families, groups of friends or a group of up to five couples and offers versatile accommodation on two floors. The twin bedded room with bunk beds is great for either two people or for a family of four and a real hit with children who want to sleep in the same room. There are a total of three bedrooms on the ground floor (thre of which have kingsize beds) making The Creek House ideal for guests who are less mobile. The house has gas central heating and plenty of hot water to accommodate the needs of 12 people. Both of the bathrooms and the shower rooms have high quality up to date fittings. The well equipped kitchen, dining, sitting room is a fantastic space to entertain in and also takes advantage of the outstanding views over the fields at the bottom of the garden towards Southwold. Outside: Outside, to the front of the house, there is off road parking for 4 cars. There is a large garden to the rear of the house. One of the main features of The Creek House is the choice of outside seating areas. A large balcony accessed via bi-fold doors from the upstairs sitting room and master bedroom has a large table and six chairs and 2 sun loungers. From the kitchen, there is a decked area with a bistro table which can seat four people and on the lower terrace there is a large table which can seat up to twelve people. There are fabulous views towards Southwold with it's lighthouse, water towers and Edwardian houses. Utility Room: A separate tumble dryer, iron and ironing board can be found in the walk in airing cupboard off bedroom 2. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: We provide high quality Egyptian cotton towels and linen. The house is cleaned weekly. Other: The kitchen/ living/dining room is a very large open plan room which is a great communal room. It is a very light room and has fabulous views towards Southwold. Doors lead out onto the decked balcony area which leads down to the lower terrace

Fabulous property

The house was totally perfect for our short break with friends. The accommodation suited us as with its large communal kitchen and dining area, separate living room space for the kids to make their own and a beautiful garden to run around in. For anyone staying with a group of children we recommend a bunk-bed rota as that room proved so popular! The house was presented in an immaculate condition and the owner, Julia, was just lovely.

Owner's Response: The Creek House is so versatile and can accommodate a variety of groups from couples going away for a weekend together, groups of Mums wanting a break or family groups. The house sleeps up to twelve people in five bedrooms. The bunk room is a room that sleeps up to four people and is very versatile as there is a very comfortable Kingsize bed which can be made into two 2 ft 6 single beds to make either a fabulous room to sleep four children as Lisa commented on above, a family room for a family with two children or a very nice kingsize room for two people. The bunk room seems to be a hit with everyone whether they are 2 or 82! Yet another happy group of guests - Thank you Lisa.

Beautiful house

What a fantastic house for our 23rd annual "girls" weekend away! The layout of the house suited us perfectly, it is very well-furnished and beautifully decorated, and the kitchen is extremely well-equipped. Location of the house is great, with a short walk in to the lovely Southwold, . We would love to come back sometime in the summer months so we could enjoy the delights of the garden!! Just a note also to say that Julia is great....

Superb holiday house

I celebrated my 60th birthday with family and a few friends at The Creek House and it went way beyond my expectations. Located in a beautiful spot with fabulous accommodation and views over the creek and fields where we watched barn owls hunting and also saw a heron. It was a ten-minute walk to the lovely little shops and cafes plus the excellent pier. Everyone enjoyed their stay and the children pronounced it the best holiday house ever! We all agreed and hope to return one day. Thank you.

Perfect for large groups/families

We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were great and overall the house was the perfect size for us (8 adults, 3 children and 3 infants). We loved the big balconies and views and my parents especially the big kitchen and the kids the garden apple tree and swing...!

The owner Julia was especially helpful when asked to recommend things to do and see. Would highly recommend.

Very Flexible and Spacious Accomodation

A great house with superb accommodation for all occasions and age groups. We booked the house for a significant wedding anniversary when our family including 2 young grandchildren joined us. The grandchildren loved the kitchen/dining/sitting room area as it provided much space for them to play in while the layout of the house meant all could have their own bedroom.

A terrific property!!

Just a short note to say that we had a lovely time at Creek House. It really is a terrific property with everything you could need and made catering for a large party of 11 very easy. We were blessed with great weather so were able to take advantage of the terraces with their brilliant views and the children loved the garden. We have visited Southwold lots of times and always enjoy our visits and this was no exception.

Southwold is a pretty unspoilt seaside town situated on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. It has a beautiful long sandy beach which is adorned by colourful beach huts, a working lighthouse, harbour and stylish pier. The unique town consists mainly of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian properties and has lovely open green areas. Shops range from a quality butchers, greengrocers, delicatessen to chic boutiques and art galleries. There is a good choice of hotels and restaurants and local pubs which sell the locally brewed Adnams Ales. The area is great for family days on the beach or walking or cycling with miles of footpaths and quiet roads and tracks to cycle along. There are a couple of cycle hire shops in Southwold which stock bikes of all sizes. Southwold also has it's own golf course. The area is know for it's literary festivals and music festivals and sailing as well as it's abundant wildlife, including RSPB Minsmere, ensuring there is plenty to appeal whatever your interests. Children will enjoy taking the hand rowed ferry boat across the river to the pretty village of Walberswick to practise their crabbing skills whilst grown ups will appreciate the areas wealth of pubs and restaurants.

Please note that the house sleeps up to 12 people comfortably plus a baby in a travel cot, we will not accept a higher number than this.
Celebrations of Special Occasions for booked guests only, no marquees, tents, mobile discos or firework displays. Sorry No Pets, No Smoking and No stag parties.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is a Friday, or Mon for a mid week stay. The house will be ready from 4pm on the day of occupation. We do ask that you vacate the house at 10am on the day of departure as the house takes six hours to clean between guests.


Notes on prices:
Please note, we let The Creek House for a minimum of three nights to arrive on a Friday and depart on a Monday at 10am(out of peak season). If you only require 2 nights, we will still charge the three night price, however you can leave the property anytime you like up until 10am on the Monday morning.
