Charming Villa with Delightful Garden- Centrally Located (near Germany-Belgium)

Overview

Property

Updated: 30-Oct-2016
3 Bedroom villa, private garden, and close to stunning nature reserves (walking/cycling), historic towns (Eindhoven/Maastricht/A'dam), and the Germany and Belgium borders.

The Joffers' House is a particularly delightful 3 bedroom, self catering Holiday House, situated in Broekhuizenvorst, a picturesque village at the river Maas (la Meuse) in Holland's most Southern and versatile Province, Limburg.

Fantastically located: spectacular nature for walkers and cyclists with well sign posted routes (3 National Parks nearby). Other routes take you along the river Maas, through picturesque villages with medieval castles and monasteries, along blooming rose fields and moorland streams.

The Joffers is also close to the historic towns of Venlo and Nijmegen, and the Roman cities of Maastricht and Xianten in Germany are within easy reach. Venturing across the borders for a day trip are the beautiful cities of Dusseldorf/Koln and Aachen in Germany, or Liege, Tongeren or Maaseik in Belgium.

Meet the friendly and welcoming 'Limburger' in his environment and experience the typical Dutch way of life through taking part in their cultural festivals, atmospheric weekly outdoor farmers markets, the Rose- and Asparagus Festivals, the outdoor concerts and local museums like the 'War- and Resistance Museum' in Overloon, or just relax and enjoy a cool locally brewed Hertog Jan bee, or taste the delicious home made blueberry cakes on one of the lovely el fresco terraces at the river Maas- watching the boats go by..! What bliss!

About the Owner

I am from The Netherlands and moved to London, England, where I live with my husband and stepchildren. I love London where both my husband and I work, but also look forward to spending our holidays on the continent; especially in the area where I come from! Of course to visit my large family, but also because I enjoy this most beautiful and friendly part of Holland which is so centrally located in The Netherlands and is also so accessibly for venturing into nearby Germany and Belgium. I love experiencing the different cultures- all within a stone's throw away from The Joffers' House! Both my husband and I wish you a wonderful and inspiring stay in this most versatile area, but also in delightful Joffers' House; your fantastic base from which to explore all this, but also to return to...

We stayed in the joffers house in August 2014. We had a lovely two week family holiday, hiring bikes and cycling along he river Mass, visiting lots of areas in Holland, we spent a day in Germany and the added bonus of just being able to enter centre parks to enjoy their swimming facilities on a wet day! There was loads to do and beautiful nearby parks. Without doubt the house was one of the most beautiful we have ever stayed in. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Nice house but beware of extra charges

  • 3 of 5

Our holiday started badly with our flight being cancelled due to a technical fault and an 8 hour delay for another flight. We were in constant contact with our hostess by text and she agreed it was fine for us to arrive in the early hours of the morning. However, 4 days into our holiday we received an email from the owner telling us that we had to pay an excessive fee for late arrival. We replied saying that we had not been informed there would be a charge for late arrival and thought this was unfair. The owner said we must realise they don't function like a hotel but agreed to drop the charge on this occasion. We have stayed in other houses where we have arrived in the early hours without a problem and with no extra charge. This whole saga ruined our holiday. The Netherlands is an expensive place, especially for food and we spent the rest of the week wondering what other charges we were going to face. We already knew we had to pay for gas, electricity, washing machine hire (charged per load even though you still have to pay for the electricity) and hire of the 2 bikes in the garage. We will never again stay in a house that doesn't have all charges included in the price.

The house itself is lovely with nice furniture and comfy beds. However, it is very close to the church and the church bells ring for 2 minutes at 8am every morning waking you up! The village is very quiet with 1 bar/restaurant which, both times we went in, only had us and the owners in there. Nearby Arcen is a nice town with nice places to eat. There are lots of cycle paths around and we hired bikes and rode along the River Maas. We also visited the tank museum at Overloon. We spent 1 day in Germany and prices are much cheaper there.

Owner's Response: We are sorry to hear that a late arrival ruined your entire holiday… However, our hostess, Annemiek was kind enough to accommodate you at 1 a.m. and made a 30 min journey to welcome you. All our charges were, and are fully itemized except for a late arrival charge which is now also clarified. Sadly, we are not in control of when church bells ring in our village, of flight delays, and the fact that life is more expensive in the Netherlands than in Germany! With best wishes, May & Annemiek HET HUIS 'DE JOFFERS'

We had a fantastic holiday at 'The Joffers', the house itself is very welcoming and the garden is great for eating and relaxing in. The surrounding area is beautiful, with many cycle paths and beautiful villages. The Joffers is definately a gem, and gave us one of our most enjoyable family holidays - we will definitely be back

Location

From the Owner

We love this area! Limburg is Netherlands' most Southern and versatile Province- it is centrally located and offers a fantastic combination of spectacular nature (wonderful walking- and cycling routes), and plenty interesting day-outings: touristic, cultural and historical ones such as the local festivals (Rose, Asparagus, Blueberry, Bike and Music Festivals), the atmospheric outdoor markets in various villages and towns. There are also plenty of interesting museums such as the WWII museum in Overloon and the Limburg's Museum in Venlo. The Roman cities of Nijmegen and Maastricht are just 60 min's car drive away from the Joffers' House, and the nearby German and Belgium borders offer day-outings to the vibrant cities such as Dusseldorf, the pilgrimage town Kevelaer (cakes!), and beautiful Aachen. In Belgium the historical towns like Liege, Maaseik and Tongeren are within easy reach. And... of course the Limburgers are known for their Burgundian lifestyle- plenty of wonderful restaurants, casual or smart, the el fresco terraces along the river Maas that serve during all seasons the locally grown products- not to forget Limburg's own beer from the local Hertog Jan Beer Bruwery!
