About the Owner

I'm married to my partner Diana and we have three adult children. To my friends I'm Tony and papi to my grandchildren. I spend winter in Macclesfield,England and summer in France at our house in Brittany. Since retiring I now regard meeting our guests and ensuring they have a wonderful holiday as my new vocation.

The house, is a 17th century longere with large oak beams and many quirky features. Its divided into 2 units that can accommodate upto 12 guests (if requested). The gardens offer a swimming pool with terrace, boules pitch, swings and lawned areas.

La Prenessaye is ideally located with many activities for all the family and friends.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"There are lots of lovely unspoilt walks through fields and woodland. We took advantage of the kayaking - great fun. We enjoyed BBQ's and then sat admiring the stars (and drank more wine). We have been to France many times but this holiday gave us a real taste of rural France. We would definitely return and also highly recommend it". Sandra and family.

"The setting of the cottage is stunning, offering tranquil countryside, yet 10 mins from the town. The cottage is spacious and well equipped, providing very comfortable accommodation. The pool is a bonus for the children". Teresa and family.

"A beautiful cottage in an idyllic setting. Excellently furnished and finished to a high standard but still in keeping with the Breton style. A lot of effort was put in to ensure that we had a wonderful 10 days - we couldn't have enjoyed it more!" Clark and family.

We asked what was the worst aspect of their holidays. The response was the same in all cases: "having to go home".

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderfully relaxing one week stay. The cottage was delightful, with everything we needed. Di and Tony were absolutely charming and were on hand to answer any queries and their experience of the area was invaluable. We used the cottage as a base to explore the area and visited Mont St Michel, Dinan, Josselin and the beach at Erquy. We had a kayak trip down the river to the next town which was 2 hours and fantastic fun! The local bakeries and patisseries were a welcome daily attraction and everyone was very helpful to my 12 year old son who practiced his French. The pool was heated which my 14 year old daughter loved. My husband and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the holiday to family and friends. The cottage was clean and comfortable and there were plenty of activities for younger children locally as well. The swings, badminton net and games room meant that you didn't really need to leave the cottage and could relax at the cottage for the day. Massive thank you to Tony and Di for a wonderful holiday!

Owner's Response: I am pleased that the family had such a lovely holiday and the two teenagers enjoyed themselves. It so nice hearing sister and brother playing and laughing in the swimming pool. Our recent addition of the pool heater and games room has had an enormous benefit this year.

Beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely cottage in a wonderful location. The photos don't do justice to the spacious interior or the grounds; there was plenty of room for our 3 boys to burn off some energy. The pool is now heated, which was an added bonus, and the owners, who live next door, were on hand to advise on days out etc, whilst respecting our privacy. The cottage has been beautifully renovated by the owners and was spotlessly clean. We would highly recommend this property to others. Thank you Tony and Di!

Owner's Response: We aim to offer a holiday to remember and I am pleased that these guests found Le Vauloriot a pleasant place to stay and they made full use of the swimming pool (now heated to 27'C) and games room. The children could also play in the garden space keeping them happily occupied.

We spent a very relaxing week here. Our mornings were spent eating croissants from the local boulangerie outside the cottage in the delightful garden. Close by are good walks, kayak and cycle hire (we did both and loved it) and lovely French villages. Every afternoon was spent swimming in the wonderful pool, our boys spent hours in the pool. We learned boule and were graciously taken care of by Tony, who stays in the adjacent cottage. Tony took great care of us taking us to watch local dancing one evening and finding a model railway for our young enthusiast. This cottage has everything you will want, you will be handsomely taken care of. Adventure and relaxation are guaranteed. The choice of which is up to you. We will return.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this feedback. Di and myself put alot of time and effort into our cottages to achieve a standard that we would expect ourselves. We are very pleased that you found our cottage relaxing; the pool is always a great hit with the children. You made full use of the activities that are within walking distance from Le Vauloriot, this part of Brittany is full of charm. It gives me great pleasure seeing families enjoying the whole French experience at our cottages. We look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

From the Owner

We have always wanted a place in France following many happy and memorable holidays with family and friends over the last 30 years. Brittany has held favour because of its easy access form the ferry ports, its beautiful country side and the character of the Breton villages and towns. The weather is pleasant, in summer it can reach the high twenties/low thirties and therefore does not leave you drained or searching for shade as is the case in many other regions of France or other countries in Europe. The location of our house is rural but sufficiently close to the main services and attractions allowing you to shop, relax, visit etc. with ease - driving on the un-cluttered roads of Brittany is pleasurable anyone who has visited this area before will appreciate what I mean.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Dinard at 45 Miles Nearest Barpub : tabac La Prenessaye at 1 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : St Malo at 60 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Josselin at 25 Miles Nearest Motorway : m164 at 2 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Plemet at 2 Miles Nearest Beach : Binic at 35 Miles Car: necessary

The beaches of Pleneuf-Val-Andre and Binic to the north are about 45 - 60 minutes drive. The southern Brittany beaches around Lorient and Carnac can be reached in 60 - 75 minutes. There are a number of lakes within a 30 minute drive, for example Lac de Guerledan.

There are a number of ports close to La Prenessaye: St Malo is about 60 minutes away and Caen about 2-3hours - we are about 4 hours from Le Harve and 6 - 8 hours drive from the eastern ports. You can fly to either Dinard or Rennes and hire a car. We are 60 minutes from these airports.

Dinan (50 min), Josslin (20 min), St Malo (60 min), Auray (60 min) plus many others (a range of literature is provided in the cottage). The Bretons are very proud of their Celtic history and have retained the character of many old towns. Don't be fooled by some of the big towns. At their heart the old quarters are truly amazing, for example Caen and Rennes.

Further Details:

A short walk will take you to the village of La Prenessaye. Here there is a bar and small supplies shop. Plemet is 5 minutes by car where one will find a Super U, patisseries, bars and a bank. Loudeac is 15 minutes by car and in the town one will find a range of shops, restaurants and bars.

At a 5 minute walk one will find safe tracks to cycle and hire bikes or for the stronger cyclist the VTT de France have created a number of circults around Loudeac; walking groups are also well catered for with the Randonee de France producing many circular marked hikes in the countryside (maps are provided); kayak's can be hired and paddle along the river Lie or horse riding/trekking can be done along the track or visit the equestrian centre in Loudeac. Fishing is also well accommodated for (fly and course), fish the river or the many etang (permits are required which can be purchased from the local bar). For the nature lover make sure you pack the field glasses. In the vicinity of the house there are many types of birds, flowers and in the garden special visitors such as fire salamanda. Also don't forget the markets. I love to see the French with their wicker baskets buying fresh produce.

We enjoy visiting the coast but find locations inland have more to offer. Within the locality of our house one will find activities such as: marked circular walks 8 to 25 km (maps provided), VTT marked cycle routes, fishing (fly and course), horse riding at the Equestrian Centre and kayaking on the river Lie. Also there are a number of top class golf courses close by. There is a bar in La Prenessaye and many restaurants nearby. Festivals of music, dance and the arts are organised by the Cideral through the year. Our house is situated in a very peaceful and tranquil location that you will find appealing. You may wish to simply chill and read or go visiting and return to BBQ dinner and share " l'ambiance" in the evening with friends and family.
