Cottage in Bracklagh, Claremorris, County Mayo, Ireland - Peaceful, Rural and Wildlife-Rich Location
Built by the Congested District Board in 1903, this beautiful cottage has just been completely renovated and has a 4* rating with the Irish Tourist Authority. Situated in the small village of Bracklagh, it has been finished to a very high standard with a new bathroom and kitchen, ensuite wet room, wood/peat burning stove, sky+HD, Ipod docking station, digital Roberts radio, linen from The White Company, towelling robes and underfloor heating via a groundwater heat pump. A refurbished hay barn is ideal for parking, while a second, lockable barn is ideal to store bikes, surfboards and the like. Bracklagh is very quiet and a haven for wildlife – particularly hares.

About the Owner
I moved back to Mayo in 2000 after 10 years of renovating my family home - it took so long because of time and budget constraints. My wife, Suzi, came too and we were joined in December by our daughter, Muirgheal. The family has now grown to include a donkey, 3 alpacas, 4 dogs (2 large, 1 small and 1 medium), 2 shetland ponies, 2 cats, 3 terrapins and a good few fish. Tigh Mhic is less than 3 miles from home which makes it easy to be on hand to help our visitors and for them to come and visit our menagerie.
Guestbook comments from the owner
Put your feet up, relax and enjoy our self-catering service. As the Muir family said in July 2012: "You have created a really beautiful holiday home...the home cooking was a real treat: amazing food, hand delivered, with genuine care and thought."
Tigh Mhic is a beautiful cottage in the most peaceful location imaginable. The interior is warm, cosy and inviting. Nothing has been forgotten - Sean and Suzi have catered for every need; the little touches like boxes of tissues in the bedroom to shower gel and bubble bath in the bathroom make it a delightful and welcoming place to stay. I cannot recommend this cottage enough if you want a tranquil haven for a week's switch off. Liz McConnachie, October 2011
We had a lovely holiday. Tigh Mhic is a gorgeous cottage & it had everything that we could possible need - all home comforts and mod cons. Thank you very much for all your help & advice - & for not being out out when we arrived at 9.30 having said we would arrive at lunchtime. M

This cottage is a little piece of heaven far from the trials and tribulations of life. We only had two nights but can't wait to return for a longer stay. It has been restored and decorated with beautiful taste, everything just fits it and gives a homely feeling to the place. The owners have thought of everything , from the toys for different ages of children to fresh coffee and cookies, and the ponies and cats just add to the enjoyment. Comfy beds, a great shower , all in all there was nothing that could have been improved on .
Beautiful cottage in a nice location
We loved our stay here, it's like a home from home and perfect for exploring.
It's very comfortable, spacious and warm and Sean and Suzi are very welcoming. we loved the fact it was remote but only 10 minutes from the local towns.
The cottage has been beautifully restored with a great sense of the history surrounding all aspects and the outside space is lovely.
There are all the facilities that you could need in the cottage, the kids actually left their phones alone and explored and played board games despite having Sky? We don't even know why, But we didn't complain 😀
Second Stay at Tigh Mhic
My husband and I have just returned from another wonderful stay at Tigh Mhic.
The property really is first class and has everything you need for a stress free holiday. There are three lovely bedrooms, two bathrooms, underfloor heating and a real fire for the colder nights. The kitchen is great for the keen (or not so keen) cook; a proper home from home.
You will receive a homely welcome, with bread, butter, milk and home-made cookies. A true delight.
Can't wait to get back again soon.
Thank you Sean and family!!

Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Will recommend to others and would love to return.
Lovely family friendly property
Lovely clean, bright and airy space with a family friendly feel. Particularly liked feeding the ponies. Sean was really helpful in his suggestions about the surrounding area and things to see and do. Would definitely recommend the house for a quiet retreat or as a base to explore the gorgeous countryside around.
Excellent rural location cottage.
Mick's Place was everything we had hoped a holiday cottage in Ireland would be. Although from the outside it looks like a traditional cottage, inside it is modern and very well equipped making our stay a real pleasure. Sean and Suzi were excellent hosts, making sure we had all the information we needed to enjoy the cottage and the local area. We would also thoroughly recommend the delicious food that Suzi and Sean offer, a lovely treat for our final night. All in all a great place to spend your holiday in County Mayo.
From the Owner
“In 2003 the renovation bug took hold again. A little quicker this time and Mick's Place is now a fully restored cottage. It is in such a peaceful setting we have taken ourselves off there for our own holidays!”
Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
Wildlife spotting is very popular at Mick's Place, with baby hares - and their parents - putting in regular appearances.
Mayo has more Blue Flag beaches than any other county in Ireland. Mick’s place is an hour’s drive to both Ross Strand in Killala and Bertra Beach in Westport. A trip to Achill is highly recommended: it’s two hours to Keem Beach, Keel Beach, Dugort Beach, Golden Strand and Dooega Strand. Straying into County Sligo, Inniscrone Beach – an hour away – is well worth a visit, too.

“Our joys are gentle walks, occasional cycle rides, sitting with a good book and a glass of wine and spotting nature. These interests are definitely well served at Mick's Place. We also love the fact that you look up whenever a car or tractor goes by as traffic is an unusual sight.”
