House On Edge Of Spa Village And Morvan National Park Forest

Overview

Property

Updated: 15-Jun-2016
House in St Honore les Bains, Nr. Chateau Chinon, Morvan, Burgundy - Very Peaceful, Close To Many Outdoor Activities

Our rustic home and garden has lovely views of the Morvan hills. Our quiet lane is a cul-de-sac ending in paths into a forest. There are 4 bikes which the guests may use. We are in the spa village of St Honore les Bains. Within a short walk we have riding stables, pretty indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis, mini golf, fishing lake, park with play areas for children, country walking or jogging paths, spa where you can take the waters and receive treatments, and numerous restaurants. The village has some very pretty and unusual buildings relating to the fact it is an old spa town. Down to the valley you come to the Nievre canal where you can take boat trips, or even hire a boat. There are many lakes and rivers within easy access by car, for angling and fly fishing. You can even swim in the larger lakes such as Lac de Settons or Panneciere.

Hi Andrea,

We all enjoyed our holiday, it was very relaxing. Tony and I saw the Tour de France it was quite a sight but very fast! Thank you for booking our appointment at the vet for us, they were very helpful and all the timings worked fine. the dogs especially enjoyed it!

Thank you again,

Elaine.

Good morning Andrea,

Yes, thank you we did enjoy our holiday and are now safely home again.

I have to say we were surprised that there were so few British visitors in the area, in view of how picturesque it is. Thank you particularly for the welcome pack and the flowers on arrival - much appreciated. We shall look forward to our next holiday in France - sadly not for a little while yet though!

Best wishes,

Ann.

Hi Andrea

Many thanks.

We had a lovely holiday. The area is beautiful - especially the lakes. The weather was very good - loads of swimming in pools and lakes!

Thank you again.

Regards

Sarah

Lovely little retreat to get away from it all

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a week in August with our two children aged 7 and 9. It was the perfect retreat in the countryside for a relaxing week but close enough to plenty of activities to keep everyone amused. The local swimming pool was great as were the tennis courts which were very easy to book at the pool and almost always available to use. Great running/walking tracks through the woods just up the hill from the property. We loved the little cafe/restaurant opposite the casino in St Honores les Bains, very friendly staff and lovely food. We also went to two restaurants recommended by the owners which were great. Le Clos de la Bussiere in Semelay was delicious with very generous portion sizes. Great with the kids and they loved the huge chocolate mousse and Ils Flotant which were brought over to the table for them to help themselves. Lac de Settons is well worth a visit for swimming and pedalos

The property itself was clean and well maintained and had everything we needed for cooking etc and a BBQ in the shed which we made use of. Bedrooms were a great size with plenty of space to hang/store clothes. The garden is a great space for playing games and the kids loved exploring it and looking for nature. The swing hidden away at the bottom of the garden was also a nice surprise for them and kept them entertained well into the evening.

Andrea the host kept us well informed and made some excellent recommendations locally. She was very quick to answer any questions we had both before and during our stay. I would recommend this property to anyone wishing to escape from it all to a rustic peaceful location.

Peaceful and quiet

  • 5 of 5

The cottage had everything you could want. Cool drinks and a selection of cheeses were a welcome treat after a long drive. Set on a very quiet road on the edge of the village. The massive but slightly wild garden was great for exploring with my young children. Lizards, bugs, frogs and loads of birds if you top up the bird feeders. Huge woods at the end of the road for long shaded walks, and great indoor and outdoor pools a short walk in the village were well used. Great for those who wish a quiet break in rural France far from the crowds.

Warm summer days in the Morvan

  • 5 of 5

We hired this pleasant property with roomy garden for a break from the English weather, and certainly got it - the summer temperatures were high, so the loungers in the front porch and nearby swimming opportunities were very welcome. Because there aren't a lot of urban venues to go dashing round in the Morvan, we (and our three children) took this holiday at an easy pace, and gradually worked our way through things like St Honore's crazy golf, the pizza restaurant, mountain biking in the woods, buying ice cream, etc. All the local people we came across were very helpful, as was Andrea (the owner) before and after the holiday. Good stuff all round.

Lovely house in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay at this property, the weather was glorious, plenty of lovely places to visit nearby. The garden is beautifully maintained, great for playing hide and seek with our dog! The forest on the doorstep was an added bonus, we enjoyed plenty of walks there and even saw deer. The house owners are very helpful, if we return to the area we would definitely stay here again.

Peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

If you wish to have a peaceful and tranquil holiday but with the facilities of home then choose this house. The house is a home from home just located in the middle of a French landscape. Very few other British tourists anywhere nearby. Spent a very relaxing 9 days enjoying good food and playing badminton in the large garden. Swimming pool nearby (200yds) was excellent for the odd dip when too hot - very cheap too. Have 2 teenagers who report that the WiFi is fast and easy to use. 3 bikes in shed were useful for trips into village for bread etc. Large towns of Nevers and Autun are some distance away (about 45 minutes by car). Countryside good for walking. Some canals nearby and boat hire is possible (but we ran out of time - maybe next time!).

Lovely large & authentic. Fabulous garden

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful week we had in Andrea's lovely authentic french home. The property was as described, clean and well maintained with a very well equipped kitchen and lovely large lounge with woodburner and wi-fi (essential for the teenagers!) Everything you could possibly need on a holiday was provided including friendly help and advice from Andrea. The garden was an absolute delight with plenty of room for games and the obligatory running around space for the younger children. Happy hours were spent playing in the garden, on the swing, playing football and running around playing tag. We also enjoyed trying to photograph a lovely large rather shy warty toad that sat on the edge of the pond. There were bikes provided which we used to ride into the local village however we tended to drive further afield if we needed any shopping. Although the weather wasn't good whilst there, we still sat outside under the gazebo with books and played games into the night - so very relaxing which is just what we wanted from our holiday. We didn't eat out whilst there so cannot comment on restaurants in the vicinity. We found it easier and more relaxing to shop and prepare something simple with the wonderful french food we had bought. All in all I would recommend this property for anyone who wants an utterly relaxing and carefree holiday centered around their accommodation.

Location

From the Owner

I used to holiday in the south of France where my parents had a small property, We used to use the drive down as part of the holiday staying at Chambre d'hotes throughout France, but we fell in love with Burgundy, especially the Morvan National Park, with it's hills, forests, wild life, including a vast variety of birds, the pure unpolluted air, absolute tranquility and the roads almost devoid of cars. We still have much to explore. We chose St Honore les Bains as the village is pretty and unique, the buildings are unusual because it has the Spa, It is peaceful, yet has all amenities. It is easy to visit historic towns as the roads are never busy.

Facilities

From the Owner

The large garden with views, large lounge with stone walls, large well equipped kitchen diner, and large bedrooms especially upstairs. The position on the edge of the village gives us easy access to all the amenities. I like to paint, and my partner likes to fish, so there is plenty of scope for both of us. We enjoy walks in the forest about 200 mtrs at the end of our road, and picking fungi in Autumn (we have studied fungi) We love watching the birds. The autumn colours at the end of October are wonderful. I enjoy a swim in our local pool which never seems to be over crowded. A trip to Lac de Settons for lunch a walk and swim in the lake, and relax on the beach and maybe paint is lovely. Short trips into the hills and down to the canals is always a pleasure.
