Jul/Aug: whole villa, Rest of the year: Bed & Breakfast

This large, romantic farmhouse instantly warms you with its very personal charm. It was built around 1400 out of blocks of white chalk stone. The hamlet of La Roussie is part of Lusignac, one of a chain of medieval villages in the Perigord. There are many places of interest to visit nearby, as well as horse riding stables, golf courses, canoe renting places. What first strikes when you enter the garden is the enormous space and lovely view over the pool and the soft rolling hills. There are bountiful fruit and nut trees to pick from and several places to sunbathe, dine and play. When you enter the house, the big entrance hall, old beams, terracotta floors and the sent of wood fires that were burnt here for centuries, leave you with a feeling of nostalgia. The house has been decorated with local antiques and all rooms are spacious, light and provided with modern facilities. Central heating throughout the house make it suitable for a holiday in any season.

Dear Reader,

My wife and I bought this property after gaining experience in The Netherlands and Portugal in buying and decorating houses for rent. My wife specialises in photography and interior design, while I run an advertising agency.

Outside the holiday season we spend many weeks in our house. We love to be there and we enjoy working on the house. Pool and garden have total privacy.

In springtime we usually stay in La Roussie with family and friends and spend most of our time wining and dining on the lawn or under the veranda.

We always regret having to leave and long to come back.

The house is constant work of love.

What a lovely house. We are immediately booking for the second year round. Such a relaxing and quite place. And still plenty of things to see and do! There is so much space that we easily shared the house with our friends. The big barbecue came in handy. (Pete and Shirley).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Roussie. The house is so romantic and the children had a ball when they found all the toys in the garden. We came back truly rested. (Freddie and Jolanda).

I rented this house as a holiday home to stay with all my girl friends. We had all the space and comfort one could ask for. And what a marvellous kitchen. We made spectacular tribal meals. Any appliance you could dream of was there. (Andrea)

I was especially impressed with how well the both house and garden were furnished and had never seen this before at any rental house. We stayed in the house with two families with children. It was the perfect holiday for everyone. We are sure to book again. (Eleanor Woods)

Magnificently renovate romantic farmhouse

None at all did the owners of this very well renovated medieval farmhouse exaggerate the situation, spectacular views, condition of their premises or their hospitality and knowledge of the many things to see and do in the nearby environs. They succceeded in retainting original features of the farmhouse and outbuildings and brought in a very lovely, romantic, personal touch. This is one of those places you dream of and do not suspect to find in a rented vacation home. I can not think of anything I missed during my stay.

I doubted whether I would write a review because this is such a place that you actually want to keep for yourself.

As the French do say: Chapeau!

Fabulous Farmhouse

We had such a fabulous time in this beautiful, luxurious farmhouse. This was the second time we have been here. The location is lovely and the house is very nicely decorated. The rooms are spacious and clean. Good beds. Everything was according to the description on the website. The garden/pool area is well maintained, very spacious and private. Lots to see and do in the near area. We all had a great time and would highly recommend this property to friends and family!

DeLuxe property in lovely surroundings.

We booked holiday homes throughout France for the past 5 years, but this deluxe old farm house was above and beyond our expectations. It has been renovated and decorated with great love and care. We found it in immaculate state and very clean. It had a practical layout which was lovely in the first week when we were with our own family, and also worked very well when my sister and her family joined us in the second week. The kitchen was a dream with it's gas cooker and ovens and a vegetable garden close by. The garden was so spacious and has the most wonderful views. The beds were comfortable and the owner had gone out of his way to make our stay a memorable one. We felt most welcome.

welcome to paradise

A good friend of mine told me about this beautiful and romantic holiday house in the Dordogne.

When you enter the house you immediately feel welcome and peaceful. The surroundings are breathtaking.

The owner of the house provided us with detailed information of all the activities in the neighbourhood. I really loved horseback riding and floating down the river in a canoe.

I will definately book this house again next year!

After viewing many properties we instantly fell in love with this house. It breathes the old, romantic atmosphere we were looking for. Especially the ceilings with old beams, the sand stone fire places, oak and terra cotta floors won us over. We like the fact that the garden offers so much privacy, and yet we are not isolated and feel very safe in this little hamlet.

Visit the caves at Vilars, 30 minutes drive.

Lakes La Jemaye with playground, beach and hiking tracks at 30 min. drive.

Beaches near Bordeaux at 90 minute drive.

At about a 30 minute drive there is a big lake (Grand étang de la Jemaye) with white sandy beaches, lined with pine trees, a nice restaurant and a playground. This is a lovely spot to relax for both children and elderly alike.


Nearest airport: Bergerac (Transavia) (50 minute drive).

Limoges airport (Ryanair or Flybe) (70 minutes drive).

Larger airport: Bordeaux (90 minute drive).

Nearest High Speed Train station: Angouleme (45 minute drive).

Calais approx 6 hours drive - all but 50 minutes is motorway.


Bakery in next villages (all 5 minute drive) and deliveries on request.

Big Supermarket in Riberac at 10 minute drive.

Riberac also has markets and fairs throughout the summer season.

Countryside restaurants all at close distance.

Lot's to see and do in Aubeterre (20 minute drive)

The historical cities of Perigueux, Brantome and Angouleme all at 45 minute drive are very interesting to visit and have a range of high quality restaurants for lunch or diner.

Further Details:

Larger village with supermarkets, charming town square and local market is at 7 minutes drive. All around the countryside you will find restaurants that serve the famous Perigordine cuisine. Castle with horse riding stables at 7 minute drive. Several places to rent a canoe at 7 minute drive. River for fishing at 5 minute walk. The cities of Bergerac, Brantome, Perigueux and Angouleme are all about 40 minutes away. These cities are a must see, with beautiful cobble stone streets, historical centers, churches and the river running through.

Whole house for rent only during July and August. Suitable for both small and large or double families. Rest of the year: Bed & Breakfast with a minimum stay of 2 nights. Room 3: Le Pommier: Ground floor room of 30m2 leading onto the garden with modern bathroom. Price per night: € 85,-. Room 4: Le Poirier: Apartment of 83 m2 with balcony, kitchen/dining room, living room and bathroom. This is let without a breakfast but you can book breakfast if you please. Price per night: € 120,-. Room 5: Le Prunier: Cottage in the garden that sleeps 3 and has no bathroom. This room is suitable to hire for the children together with room 3 or 4. Price per night: € 45,-.
