About the property

Villa in Raposeira, Salema / Costa Vicentina area, Western Algarve - Peaceful location close to superb beaches

Set in the conservation area of the Parque Natural do Costa Vicentina, the villa is close to the coast and a number of beaches. Follow the many clifftop paths for spectacular views or relax on the sandy beaches which are also really good for body-boarding and surfing. The villa sleeps 6 comfortably. The two groundfloor bedrooms, one en-suite, have patio doors to access the terraces and the lounge patio doors lead out to the Pebblepool swimming pool. The dining area, also overlooking the pool, leads through to the kitchen which gives access to the rear terrace and barbecue area. The villa meets the official standards required for a rental property and has a current tourist licence (Alojamento Local 21227/AL). The villa is air-conditioned and has solar panels for sustainability. The bathrooms and kitchen were newly refitted in 2015.

About Trevor Guy

We are a family of four who co-own the villa and live in Wales, apart from one son who lives and works in London. Our working lives, in both public and private sectors, are hectic and demanding and hence the need for an escape route to a country which knows how to do relaxation. Photography, walking, watersports, reading, plant and bird life are particular interests that take on a different dimension in the Algarve. The light and subjects are wonderful for both serious and fun photographers - flamingoes in the late afternoon sun, surf-up at Ingrina, swallows diving to drink from the pool, meadows in Spring on the walk down to the cliff path, dolphin watching, sunset at Cape St Vincent.

Trevor Guy purchased this villa in 2002

Why Trevor Guy chose Raposeira

We have travelled widely as a family but found ourselves coming back to the Western Algarve so often that we decided to have our own retreat there. The location in the Nature Park means that we can enjoy the walks in the open countryside, the unspoilt coastline and of course the beaches. The small, family-run cafes and beach bars in the area are so welcoming and the food is deliciously simple and fresh. Night-life may be listening to the cicadas and staring up at the Milky Way but our twenty-something sons and their friends have equally succumbed to the charms of the villa, the area and the Portuguese way of relaxing. The warm summers and mild winters make this area worth a visit any time of year. Golf, tennis, diving, surfing, riding, walking, bird-watching etc are anything but seasonal.

What makes this villa unique

The villa is on a small development which was given planning permission before the creation of the conservation area and therefore there are only 20 properties i.e. neighbours but no crowd. The drive from Faro is now so easy on the new motorway and what were country tracks in 2002 are now proper roads, though still narrow, from the main road down to Ingrina and Zavial. Access to towns is easy and the location is also perfect for exploring the wilder west coast and the Monchique mountains just to the north. The heated pool is a great attraction for all ages; it is a double shallow-ended pool and suits the fun lovers and the more sedate or serious swimmer. We have a local agent on hand should you need anything.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The perfect getaway. An easy to get to, peaceful location only a minute's drive from the beach, yet still close to a wealth of different activities and attractions. We have already been back for a second holiday and will definitely be going again. (James Edgeworth)

I would just like to thank you for the opportunity we had to stay at your fantastic place in Raposeira. We had a very good holiday, and the house with pool area was indeed a wonderful holiday spot. (Rikard Persson: Sweden)
