About the Owner

Greg and I were both brought up next to the sea, and we now live in the Midlands! Our dream is to move to Solva where life is idyllic, if not a bit windy at times. The harbour is truly picturesque and we have bought ourselves a fishing boat that we are doing up to haul lobster pots. We found that the close proximity of 2 surf beaches was brilliant and due to the waves not quite achieving the heights we are used to in the southern hemisphere we have now bought kite surfing equipment for the best of both worlds.

We have found out that Llys Aber was the home of David Gray (Singer/songwriter) for his teenage years. It was also home to the designer of the first Smalls lighthouse. The light was assembled on the top floor only to find they had to knock a hole through in order to get it out!

10-17th Feb 2012 Stayed with 9 friends/spouses for a rugby weekend.House superbly equipped so all chefs could have fun.A bathroom for each bedroom and tons of space.Decor not holiday home but thoughtful stylish with real panache.Tons of space so you can have a really pleasant houseparty.Would recommend the house to anyone without reservation.

Solva itself is fun with nice pubs,good food,incomparable scenery and friendly natives.Please dont book it when i return but otherwise just book and enjoy.

21-28 Oct 2011 Perfect holiday home for 11 of us! Plenty of everything all in excellent condition (except for one or two ‘tiny’ blips – 2 bedside lamps in twin room & interior wardrobe in same room need attention). Best of all the holiday homes we have stayed in. Many thanks.

Superb Holiday Accommodation!

5 couples have just spent a wonderful week at this house. From the wicker welcome basket, to the fresh flowers and spotless interior, everything was of a very high standard. The location is perfect with coastal walks from the house but only a short drive to the lovely St Davids. The gift shop across the road and other galleries are lovely to while away time in! Would highly recommend this holiday home!

Location

We fell in love with Llys Aber whilst on holiday and it was being run as a B&B. When you are in the house the rest of the world ceases to exist. We originally intended to move to Solva, buy a fishing boat and live village life. We bought the house and there was a little work to be done on it but that soon turned into major works and the whole inside of the house had to be refitted. It took us 18 months and we now have a fantastic house with every facility needed for a 'home away from home' holiday. We have, where possible, kept original features and added some back that had been taken out many years ago. Our work has unfortunately kept us in the Midlands, but we have bought our fishing boat!

Special interest holidays:

The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path provides both challenging walks and more sedate ones. For those wanting that bit extra there is the coasteering to be tackled in all weathers. The Pembrokeshire area is famous for the special 'light' that attracts artists from all over the world. There are an abundance of art galleries around. Kayaking is a favourite in the harbour and out to sea, along with crabbing when the tide is coming in down at the Quay.

Coast/Beach:

Solva harbour has a small beach when the tide is out, otherwise it is Newgale 4 miles towards Haverfordwest and Whitesands 5 miles north. Both beaches have surf schools and there is plenty to do at them - even if the sun isn't shining.

Travel:

Haverfordwest is the nearest train station, trains run regularly to and from there and there is a small airfield as well, private flights only. Fishguard is 40 minutes drive with ferries to and from Ireland.

Distances:

Haverfordwest 11 miles, St Davids 3 miles.

Further Details:

St. David's Cathedral is a must, Bluestone adventure park is a 30 minute drive. The Chocolate factory is good fun and there are art galleries everywhere to take home a reasonably priced painting of Solva.

Booking Notes: We have a strict cancellation policy. 30% of the full value of the stay is deducted and kept if the holiday is cancelled within 8 weeks of your stay. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions.
Payment of deposit 50% at time of booking, balance is due 8 weeks prior to letting period and security bond payable prior to letting period. Security bond is repaid within 10 days of holiday terminating.

Changeover Day:
Arrival 5.00pm Friday - departure 11.00am Friday. Short breaks include any four nights between Friday to Friday.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week (5.00pm Friday to 11.00am the following Friday although the Owners Direct website doesn't allow us to input the same date for changeover days so some weeks appear to end on a Thursday) All prices are in UK pounds. Short breaks are available. Please ask as prices vary throughout the year and always enquire if it is only 2 weeks from the booking date if you want a last minute booking discount.

From the Owner

Because of the angle Llys Aber sits to the road there is little to no noise when inside the house and the garden is walled so is secure and a suntrap. Walk out of the front drive and you are on the harbour, your choice to go left on the coastal path towards Newgale or right towards St. Davids. You will never tire of the walks, they are always different. The kids love being down at the quay, everyone is friendly and plenty of activity for them, diving off the quay wall, crabbing and kayaking. Solva is full of wonderful places to eat, nearly all serving freshly caught seafood. Even when the weather is being 'Welsh' there are lots of activities to do, or just sit in front of the fire and chill.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: We have a strictly no pet policy - sorry. The telephone is available for use (an honesty box is provided), mobile telephones and laptops can be connected through Wi-fi in the house. No extra charges for electricity over winter months. Outside: The garden has outside dining to accommodate approx 12 people. There is an area where disposable barbeques can be used. A washing line is in situ and there is a covered Gazebo to protect smokers in bad weather. Utility Room: Washing machine, sensor dryer, shower/toilet washroom. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are provided but not for use on the beach. Cleaning is carried out on changeover day, if extra cleaning is required this can be accommodated with a fee. Other: Snug has daybed and two rocking armchairs, table, TV with full Sky package (ideal to get away to watch the match with no interference from kids - or put them in there!). If the daybed is required this is by prior arrangement and may incur an extra cost.
