Romantic two bedroom cottage nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains

Lovingly modernized two bedroom cottage, both en-suite. in scenic mountain location

Delightful traditional stone cottage set in the centre of a charming the village. The cottage has been recently renovated to a very high standard. The cottage is on three levels, ground, first and second floors. The ground floor , access by a wooden staircase from the living area ,has twin beds and a wet room. French doors, with security shutters ,leads on to a private courtyard . The courtyard is a positive sun trap. The middle floor, approached by outside stone steps ,is an integrated kitchen and living space with a sunny terrace off the kitchen. Great for a long lazy breakfast. The kitchen is well equipped , fridge with freezer compartment, and full size gas cooker. The washing machine is in a small laundry room under the outside steps. The top floor has a double bed and day bed which converts to two single beds and fully tiled luxury en-suite. The private courtyard has built in b.b., garden furniture and sun lounges. There is car parking on the drive or alternatively we use the car park opposite the house at the side of the Marie. Village facilities include restaurant, bar and a tappas bar, shopping precinct, playground and outdoor theatre all two minutes walk a way. There is a wealth of interest in the surrounding areas. Colliour has some lovely shops and is dominated by the Chateau Royale, a castle built in the middle ages to guard against invasion by Saracen pirates . The sacred mountain Massif du Canigou is awe inspiring at 2700 metres and is covered in snow for much of the year. The lovely sandy beach at Agrgeles in great for sand castles and is about six miles away. It is approximately miles to the to the Spanish border.

Les and Shirley have done a lot of the renovation themselves over several years. We had the help of our French friends too. We live in Shropshire. Les is a heating engineer and I was a teacher . We use the house ourselves ,as does our family for holidays

The cottage is lovely and extremely well equipped. A real home from home. The beach at St Cyprien is lovely. The parking is easy right next to the dunes, the sand finer and the sea shelves much less so this would be a great beach for families. Alison, Michael and James.

Well worth a visit are the Cathar castles at Queribus. The mountain views are spectacular. Nearby is the Gorge de Galamus which is brilliant, and the |Hermitage Church there is well worth a visit. Rachael, Joe, Jim, Eddie and Sarha.

We went up Canigou, which was scary and very awe-inspiring. You can feel the atmosphere up there. You can book form the tourist centre in Argeles Centre. Vin, Mags, Hannah and Bryony. The internet Cafe "Deoan Aidi66" is in St. Genis - one euro for 15 mins. Hannah.

Disappointing and frustrating

The property was well appointed and reasonably comfortable, and in a good location, but we felt let down on two counts. Firstly, the property is listed as having parking available in the drive but the owner's car occupied the parking space and we had to find parking places some distance from the property. Secondly the code for the wi-fi was hand-written and difficult to decipher. We emailed the owner in the UK ( from the local bar) with pictures of the hand-written code and our interpretations of the code, asking for help. The owner's reply was not at all helpful, simply stating that the code was the one they used. Consequently we were without wi-fi for the duration of our holiday. We have used Owners Direct many times in the past without problems and have always trusted the information provided on the website. On this occasion, the description was misleading re.parking and customer service was very poor re. the wi-fi code.

Owner's Response: The two issues highlighted in the review have been addressed. There is room for another car on the drive, our friends park there when they visit. Alternatively parking is available at the side of the Marie 20 yards from the cottage. The Wi-fi code and provider are on the top of the television for the convenience of clients. Also the location on the box where this information is printed. It is also in the visitors book.

Pretty little house in authentic French village

The house was just as described with a well stocked kitchen, comfy beds and all very clean and welcoming. The balcony is perfect for sunny morning breakfasts outside and we had great barbeques in the garden which is alos lovely for relaxing outside.

the village has all the shops you need for day to day shopping and there is large supermarket a 15 minute drive away.

it is very well positioned for all the lovely coastal villages and for beautiful mountain drives with plenty of tourist attractions such as the Yellow Train nearby, but also plenty of quiet French countryside for times off the beaten track.

I have already recommended the house to friends and relatives and will be going back myself too!

lovely cottage, excellent location

This charming cottage has its own courtyard, is tastefully furnished and well equipped. It is ideally placed for exploring the area as it is within easy reach of the coast, The Pyrenees and Spanish Catalonia. Collioure is a must see, Beautiful old town on a beautiful coastline. In fact we visited twice during our week. We spent another two days travelling through The Pyrenees admiring the views and visiting the walled hill towns. Make time to find Villefranche de Conflent. It is well worth a visit. Another short journey will take you across the Spanish Border, either by the scenic coastal route or the quicker main roads. Figueres hosts the Dali museum which is well worth a few hours of your time. For the easier days around the village you will find good restaurants and accessible walks to nearby villages or in the surrounding hills to the little local abbey. We had a lovely stay here and would recommend, thank you Shirley and Les

Lovely, cosy cottage

This is a lovely cottage with everything needed for the perfect relaxing break. Clean and cosy inside and two great spaces outside for eating and soaking up the sun. It is in a beautiful little village with a lovely bakery, shops and a nice pizza place. Perfect location for long walks and a short drive to the beach. And if beautiful France isn't enough, Spain is within easy reach for a day trip. Would highly recommend this cottage to everyone.

Relaxed and comfy

The cottage is very comfortable with everything we needed for a relaxing quiet holiday. It is in a great location from which to drive to lots of different days out, and the local area/village was fab for strolling around with the pram when we didn't fancy going far. We really loved our week long stay and would definitely hire the cottage again, maybe for longer next time. Thank you for a fantastic rejuvenating break in your lovely little hide away!

Our holiday hideaway

This is our fifth visit to the lovely cottage in Villelongue Dels Monts which says it all, the cottage has been reovated to a high standard both inside and out whilst retaining old world charm perfect for holiday living, this cottage is a real gem, well decorated and kitted out with all you need for your holiday. Set in a lovely village with restaurants, bar and a post office. The beaches of the Med are approx 10 km with easy access by car, Spain is also accessible again approx 10km.The whole area is steeped with history and things to see and do whether you are a family or just the two of you. we stay in the cottage for a month each year and will certainly be returning next year.

We just fell in love with the property at first sight. The stone steps to the front just looked so very French. Its location opposite the lovely building of the Marie and the situation in the centre of the village. No need to get the car out for a loaf of bread.

Nearest Airport : Perpignan approx 30mins, Girona, Spain,approx 1hr at 25 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : in the village at 1 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Areles at 12 Kilometres Nearest Train : Perpignan with links to Eurostar from London at 25 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A9 at 6 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : in the village plus a tapas bar at 1 Kilometres Nearest Ski : Andora at 60 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Argeles Beach great for sunbathing or sandcastles at 12 Kilometres Car: recommended


There are several beaches within five to six miles. The North Beach is a lovely sandy beach where sun loungers and parasols can be hired, food and toilets are available. Great for sandcastles. Colliore is a lovely place to visit with its castle, shops and local artists selling their work. Rather stony beach. Argeles has a beautiful beach and a good range of attractions including mini golf, tennis and children's play area. Figueres is under an hours drive and is home to the world famous Dali Museum and is a must see.It really is amazing as he worked in so many different mediums. We were blown away by it and intend to go back there.Cere, famous for it's cherries, has a wonderful market selling crafts and toys. We bought unusual things for our grandchildren there.


Perpignan is the nearest airport, about 15 miles away. . Other airports within a reasonable distance are Gerona,

Carcassone and Barcelona. Car hire or use of a car is recommended. Train: Perpignan has a main line station with links to Eurostar services from London and TGV from Paris. Motor Rail: From London direct to Narbonne, approximately one hours drive away.


The nearest village is Laroque with restaurants, the Irish Bar and shops, and where you can get English newspapers.Our local shop in the village is open weekdays and a short time on a Sunday. There is an open air theatre which is used for concerts and other events.The local Priory is well worth a visit and a nice walk. It has gradually been restored by local people over a period of time. Ceret is well worth a visit with its market and quaint streets and squares. The Museum of Modern Art has some wonderful pieces and has specialist exhibitions from time to time. Perpignan is a very old town with many interesting buildings and shops

Further Details:

Supermarket is about 2 miles away. The nearest bank is in St Genis, with a 'hole in the wall' and at Laroque , both about a mile and a half away. Sorede is approximately two miles and has several good restaurants. The town swimming pool at La Boulou is outdoors.

In high season the changeover day is Saturday. Out of season this may be flexible. Arrival time in high season is after 4pm and departure time before 10.30am again out of season this can be flexible.

  • Notes on accommodation: There is a coal effect electric fire in the lounge and the bedrooms are heated by convector heaters. The outside terrace and the courtyard garden are gated and therefore safe for children to play outside. Outside: The courtyard garden has outside light, built in gas BBQ and is furnished with loungers, deckchairs, a bench and large table and chairs for dining outside. There are also a number of outside toys for children. A perfect spot to enjoy a relaxed afternoon drink or evening meal. The terrace is an ideal spot to enjoy breakfast or morning coffee. Car parking - parking space on the drive, alternatively in the residents car park across the road. Utility Room: Automatic washing machine,laundry basket and pegs. There is a retractable outside washing line. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning is carried out prior to visitors arrival.
