Situated in Brunthwaite, a small hamlet in a conservation area, located at the SW foot of Ilkley Moor, the cottage was originally the stables for Ashwell Farm and has been sympathetically restored and furnished to give modern day comfort whilst retaining its Grade II character with original beamed ceilings and mullioned windows. It is close to all amenities with shops, restaurants, take aways, pubs in the nearby village. A pleasant 200 yards walk is Silsden Golf Club which welcomes visiting playing and social guests. We are close to Bolton Abbey, a picturesque setting for weddings, our accommodation is useful for wedding guests, being only a 15 min drive to this venue. .

About the Owner

My husband and I and Golden retriever moved to this lovely hamlet over 8 years ago. We are next door to the cottage and usually on hand for any help or advice you may need about this lovely area. We hope you will enjoy the surroundings as much as we do, having spent many years travelling and living in many parts of the world and living on a boat in the Med., my home county and the friendly people drew us back to dry land. We welcome visitors and if you have a dog or cat that is well behaved it would also be welcome. It is great countryside for walking or driving to see the many interesting places. We look forward to welcoming you to our hamlet and wish you an enjoyable stay.

The minute I drove up to this gorgeous cottage off the beaten track it was exactly what I had hoped it would be & more! I couldn't have asked for better hosts in the owners Lynne & John. Nothing was too much trouble for them&I will never forget my welcome gift of delicious home made smoked trout pate &oatcakes. The pristine cottage with character features,the location,the views,the peace & quite, & dare I say the snow, made for a very memorable Christmas for myself, visiting friends & my family. Everything was just perfect. My little cat loved it as well! Definitely will be going back & have found good friends for life in my hosts. Just wonderful! Adele Wolstenholme. January 2011.

Yorkshire Hospitality at its best

House was as described, warm and welcoming. Hospitality and availability of the little things that make self catering easy first class. The third bedroom is really only suitable for younger/smaller kids as the roof is very low. We had to turn the heating off at night as the boiler is also in this room but the house held the heat and easily warmed up in the morning. The only booking concerns we had were that smoking was not banned and pets were welcome but the house was spotless and odourless. Ideal for easy access to Ilkley, Keithley, Haworth and the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Quietly location but within 10 mins of shops and takeaways. We'll definitely be booking again.

Owner's Response: So pleased that you enjoyed your stay and it was lovely to meet you and all the family. Yes, we do allow smoking, but not indoors, ashtrays provided outside for smokers. Also appreciate that not all our guests have pets, so regularly deep clean carpets after pets have been staying,to keep the cottage fresh. The third bedroom as you say, is ideal for children it having a sloping ceiling, although we have had plenty of adults stay in this room too. Just need to remember to duck! Superb service and care

Lovely, very well equipped cottage with exceptionally kind owners. Lynne helped us so much in our hour of need! There is everything you could wish for in the kitchen and it was a delight to cook there. All the beds and bedding were very good quality as were all the towels and kitchen items. We would recommend this cottage to anyone and is very handy for all local amenities. Thank you so much.

Lovely, tranquil and relaxing.

We totally loved Lynne's property and she made us feel very welcome. The house was gorgeous and warm and probably the most comfortable we've been in for the duration of our holiday. Highly recommended!

An excellent house in a great loctation!

We arrived in the early evening after a tiring traffic delayed journey to a very warm welcome from the owner and an beautifully presented and sparkling clean house ready for our family weekend. It had lots of extra 'goodies' to surprise us when we opened the kitchen cupboards and the fridge. There was also a good supply of towels, kitchen crockery and cutlery, pans, gadgets and a dishwasher which meant it felt like a 'home from home'. There was good off road car parking too! It was a great location for us as a three generation family as we have friends in Burley in Wharfedale, Brunthwaite and Silsden and we wanted to show the children (6 and 3yrs) the special family places and spaces in Ilkley and the surrounding area. So much to do in the area!

Excellent location and attentive owners

We were in need of a temporary home to bridge the gap between selling and buying a house and Brunthwaite cottage fitted the bill perfectly. The cottage was clean and comfortable, and equipped with many home comforts. The location was ideal for access to shops in Silsden and Ilkley, and of course the beautiful surrounding countryside and the Dales. And although Lynne and John were away for most of our stay they kept in touch by email to make sure we were OK and continue to forward stray pieces of post. We would highly recommend this property to friends and family.

little piece of heaven in silsden

Brunthwaite cottage is a little gem ,from the moment we arrived to the moment we left this little cottage was perfection with a capital P. On arriving Lynne greeted us with the warmest of welcomes and made sure that throughout our stay we wanted for nothing even bringing fresh homemade scones and mincepies on Christmas morning, nothing was to much. ill be booking again for this Christmas and next.

Location

The tiny hamlet of Brunthwaite is a hidden gem which we only found when looking to move back into this part of Yorkshire. It is in the countryside but yet so close to all ameneties that one may need. Near to lovely Ilkley town with its nice shops and tea rooms as well as Ilkley Moor which is great for dog walking and near to Skipton with its lovely markets. Also the canal so when John wants to watch boats go by it is only a short walk to the canalside. The surroundings have a great selection of bird life which we enjoy and many are visitors to our garden.

The tour de france came through our village of Silsden in July 2014 .and the tour de Yorkshire in May 2015

why not visit and try the routes the teams rode, we offer secure bike storage and outside tap/hose for bike cleaning.

WHAT A FANTASTIC WEEKEND WE HAVE HAD HERE IN SILSDEN AND THE SURROUNDING VILLAGES WITH LE TOUR LAST JULY AND THIS MAY WITH TOUR DE YORKSHIRE A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL. DO COME VISIT OUR LOVELY AREA AND SEE FOR YOURSELF

Coast/Beach:

East Coast. eg Whitby, Scarborough, etc approx 2 hours. West Coast eg Southport, Blackpool, Morecambe approx 2 hours. The South Lake District eg Windermere approx 90 mins.

Travel:

Leeds/Bradford airport is 25 mins drive. Steeton railway station is 5 mins drive. Bus services are close by. Use of car/bike is recommended.

Distances:

Local shops Silsden 5 mins. The Cow & Calf rocks and Ilkley Moor and town 15 mins. Skipton, with its castle, canal, street market and 'Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales' 10 mins. Haworth and Bronte country 15 mins. Salts Mill, Saltaire with the Hockney collection etc 15 mins. The spa town of Harrogate 30 mins. Ancient York 90 mins. Bingley Five rise locks on the Leeds Liverpool canal 10 mins. Embsay Steam Railway 15 mins. Keighley & Worth Valley Steam Railway 10 mins.

Further Details:

Silsden 5 mins has banks, butchers, bakers, supermarket, newsagents, pet shop, chemists, restaurants, pubs, Indian and Chinese take aways, fish and chip shops, health centre. Ilkley has a Hydro with indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Skipton has a leisure centre with indoor pool and many other facilities. Four days a week Skipton has a superb street market, also the small family brewery, Copper Dragon takes tours of their brew house and ends in the bistro. Otley on the River Wharfe, is another market town, the birth place of Thomas Chippendale, and is 20 mins drive. The historic and ancient walled City of York with its museums, Jorvik centre and streets such as The Shambles, and the west and east coasts are within easy driving distance for a day trip.

In the countryside, in a quiet hamlet so you get the feeling of being miles from anywhere yet close to the village of Silsden with many ameneties and only 10 mins from lovely Ilkley. A beamed, character, stone listed cottage which is very warm and cosy in the winter months with all modern facilities, and a great base for walking or sightseeing many of the local places of interest. Also only a few hundred yards from the golf course, which is a lovely spot to just have a drink if you dont wish to play.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Full gas central & water heating. Electric feature fire in lounge. Bedrooms 1 & 2 have double beds & bed 3 has 2 singles (option of a travel or full size cot if only 1 single used) with a sloping ceiling & beams which reduce the headroom towards the eaves. It can be a suitable room for children. Also in bedroom 3 space for baggage storage and hanging space.. All heating costs(gas, electric) and bed linen (except cot linen), towels, kitchen towels, tea towels etc. are included together with complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, a selection of breakfast cereals, selection of basic condiments, loo rolls, kitchen roll & fresh milk on arrival. The cottage is fully cleaned before arrival. One well behaved pet is accepted by arrangement (the service cost for cleaning of £40 will apply). We have recently upgraded the lounge TV to a large screen & new DVD player. Bedroom 1 now has wall mounted TV/DVD& Beds 1&2 have radio/alarm/clock. We have also upgraded the Wi-Fi link. Outside: There is a small patio area to the front and private parking for 2 or 3 cars. Outdoor furniture and a barbecue are available for the warmer days. A small paved area to the rear and path to the side. If required secure bicycle storage and outside tap/hose for washing down bikes. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Vac, mop etc are there for use during your stay to leave the cottage clean & tidy.
