3 bedroom, 3 bathroom villa close to farmland and yet close to town centre

Good sized 3 bedroom villa in a secluded location and yet within a very short walk of Cala'n Porter's centre. The villa is very well presented, offering everything you will need for a relaxing break. The villa has a tourist licence and therefore you can be assured of the quality of the accommodation. There is unlimited wi-fi in the villa. The large bedrooms all come with an en-suite bathroom and air-conditioning. One bedroom has a safe for added peace of mind. The kitchen has a dishwasher, built-in oven, gas hob and microwave. The living / dining room has a flatscreen TV, DVD player, Sky TV, iPod/iPhone docking station and a CD player. There are ceiling fans in all bedrooms and the lounge. There is a hairdryer in 2 of the bedrooms. Outside there is a fabulous pool and patio area offering total seclusion if required. The pool has a separate shallow end suitable for small children. There is a shaded eating area next to the barbecue, sun loungers and a further table and chairs to add to your enjoyment of this beautiful villa.

Just to say we had a fabulous week in your lovely villa. The weather was superb so we made good use of the fantastic pool. My two grandchildren had a whale of a time and say it was their best holiday ever! (Their parents and grandparents had a really good time too!)

We all had a brilliant time thanks. The villa was the best we have stayed in by far and had all (and more !) that we needed. Kids enjoyed themselves in the pool and we made very good use of the sun loungers and the library! We have no complaints whatsoever and will stay again if we visit Menorca.

Coast/Beach:

The beautiful beach at Cala'n Porter is 5 minutes away by car via a steep road. There are steps leading to the beach which are 10 minutes walk away. The beach has sunbeds and parasols available and there are a few shops, bars and restaurants.

Travel:

Mahon Airport is 15 minutes by car. Car hire is not essential but recommended if you want to explore the numerous beautiful beaches on the island. A taxi from the airport will cost about 20 euros.

Distances:

The town centre is only a few minutes walk from the villa. The capital city Mahon together with the picturesque port are 15 minutes by car. The fabulous Caves of Xoroi are only 10 minutes walk away.

Cala'n Porter has supermarkets, a pharmacy, restaurants, bars, a bank, car hire and currency exchange. There is a childrens play area and astroturf football / basketball pitch very close to the villa.

Notes on accommodation: The villa is very secure with a wall around the perimeter offering extra peace of mind if you have young children. No smoking inside the villa please. Outside: The villa is on a larger than average plot, with well stocked and tendered gardens. There is an extensive patio area all round the villa, giving you total seclusion, sunbathing space and shady areas. The private pool has a shallow child friendly area and steps leading to the main pool area. Outside shower, 6 sunbeds and further table and chairs with parasol are provided. The lovely built-in barbecue area has a covered eating area with lighting for those relaxing Summer evenings. Utility Room: Washing machine outside in separate cupboard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The villa will be cleaned for your arrival and the beds will be freshly made. Clean linen, bath towels, hand towels and tea towels are provided. No services will be provided to you during your accommodation.

A wonderful week in a beautiful villa

Villa Oliver is possibly one of the best villas we have stayed in. Immaculately clean, well equipped, and airy and spacious. The pool was beautifully maintained and the garden which surrounded the villa gave ample shade and privacy. The bougainvillea was breathtaking. The position of the villa could not be more central. Less than 5 minute walk to a large supermarket, and ample restaurants within easy walking distance. Bar Pons is definitely worth a visit. Very friendly staff and it seemed to be frequented by locals which is always a good sign. Although the villa was so close to all amenities it was peaceful and secluded. We will definitely be returning. Thank you Andy and Justine for lending us your villa.

Beautiful villa - pity about the flies !

Villa Oliver is a beautiful spacious 3 bed, 3 bath villa. It has a fantastic pool and is perfectly situated 5 mins walk away from the centre of Cala'n Porter. Unfortunately the "smallholding" next door meant that the villa was constantly filled with flies. There were 3 large cans of fly spray left in the kitchen so I imagine this is an ongoing problem. We sprayed all rooms several times a day but every morning they were back, sometimes as many as 10 in the kitchen. The neighbours keep chickens, cockerels, a goat, about 10 dogs and 3 emus (which are kept in an unused swimming pool with no shade and walk aimlessly round in circles - VERY cruel). The noise of the animals didnt bother us but the flies were very disturbing, constantly landing on any food or drink inside or outside and waking us early in the morning buzzing round our heads and landing on us. We would love to return to the villa one day but would be reluctant to do so until the fly situation is resolved.

Owner's Response: As with anywhere in a hot country flies can be an issue on occasions. We will look into the provision of a permanent deterrent although keeping the ceiling fans on in the rooms usually works to keep any flies away from the inside of the villa. The issue of animals next door has been mentioned in previous reviews and is something that will receive our attention prior to next season.

A lovely villa in a great location

We've just returned from a wonderful week's holiday at this lovely villa. We booked Villa Oliver at late notice as the villa we'd originally reserved fell through only a few weeks prior to our holiday. When I contacted the owner Andy, he was so friendly and accommodating, I just cannot fault him. The villa itself was superb, it had everything we could have possibly wanted and it was so close to shops, bars and restaurants. This proved to be a real bonus as one of our party had recently undergone hip replacement surgery and was not very mobile. The villa's proximity to all that Cala'n Porter has to offer meant that she could enjoy her week and not be confined to her accommodation. Some previous guests have mentioned the neighbouring property and the noise from their animals. Yes, you could hear the cockerel crowing in the mornings (not that it woke me up - I slept like a log the entire week!) and the ducks, geese, chickens, or whatever they were, could get a bit noisy on occasions. However, this in no way prevented us from thoroughly enjoying our holiday, in fact we found it quite amusing and had a good laugh on several occasions. We even went looking for the goat on the rooftop each morning and got quite concerned when he didn't appear for a few days. All in all, we all had a great time and were sad when our week came to an end. Thank you Andy and Justine for a terrific holiday.

Stay at Villa Oliver 15th Sept 2017.

Despite the Villa having many good points ,we experienced a lot of noise during our second night from Bar 007 , over the road , this was due to the Bar holding a Drum & Base Disco from 12 until 7am as part of the Fiesta Celebrations. It was unbearable and made the Windows rattle, we got no sleep all night !!The Police were of no help , they told me permission had been given for this annual event.

Unfortunately this was not the only disturbance , the owners of the Residential Villa very near to the property keep an array of animals, goats , ducks, chickens, emus/ostriches, dogs which at times made a racket and smelt. Not pleasant when you are trying to relax around the lovely Pool area.

Whilst we enjoyed our Hoilday we have reservations in recommending the Villa .

Owner's Response: I am very sorry to hear about the noise disturbance experienced from Bar 007 on this evening. I can assure guests that there is usually no disturbance from the bar, they only play quiet, ambient music and it is closed by 11pm. This particular event was during the Fiesta celebrations when the town is vibrant and great fun for one weekend in September each year. The occasional noise from next door is very regrettable, it is something that will receive our attention during the close season as mentioned in a previous review response.

Lovely villa. Shame about next door!!

Villa great no complaints couple of little niggles but not worth mentioning. However the noise from next door really ruined it for us. Next door is like a farm cockles start art 5am and continue all day didn't realise peacocks were so noisy they also have emus dogs cats and let's not forget the goat that seems to live on their roof very odd and very noisy. Not the peaceful relaxing holiday we were hoping for. Would we go back absolutely not !!!

Owner's Response: One of the neighbours do keep chickens plus a few other animals and it is really regrettable that they disturbed our guests on this occasion. On the positive side, we have many returning guests who have not made similar observations regarding noise disturbance and have only made very positive comments about the quality of the accommodation which are supported by the other reviews on this site. The villa, whilst very close to the town centre, is not surrounded by other rental villas and therefore you will not be disturbed by the noise typically generated by having other holidaymakers around you. The surrounding area is mainly populated by local residents who are extremely friendly and welcoming to our guests. Having said this, the feedback is taken seriously and we will consider what measures can be taken to shield the villa from the intermittent noise generated by the chickens. Please rest assured that the villa has been granted a tourist licence by the local Department of Tourism for which it had to meet very high standards and pass a stringent inspection.

Great villa, lovely pool, fabulous location

My wife and myself stayed at this Villa for a week in early June.

The booking process was easy. Andy, the owner, replied very quickly to all my messages.

The villa is very spacious, and we particularly liked the surrounding garden and the pool, neither of which are overlooked.

The garden is well tended, with lovely plants and flowers, the pool was also well-maintained.

It does make a difference to have a pool area with flowers and plants, rather than the sparse gardens we saw in other villas in the resort. We also appreciated the fact that the pool is not visible from the road or from neighbouring properties - we really felt secluded and private.

The interior of the villa was clean and well-maintained. The bathrooms are large, well laid-out and hot water was plentiful.

There was everything we needed in the villa - a good sized fridge and freezer, washing machine, and dishwasher, and plenty of cutlery and crockery.

It was quite hot (average 26C) during our visit, but the villa was easy to keep cool by closing the metal shutters to keep the sun out, but leaving the windows open while we were in the pool. This kept the property cool and airy throughout the day. We tried the air-conditioning once, and it worked well, but we just prefer to have a gentle breeze, either through the windows, or from the efficient ceiling fans.

There were 2 of us, so we had more than enough space, but I imagine we would have been equally as comfortable with six people.

The villa is in a quiet side street, but less than 5 minutes walk to the centre of the resort. There's a nice tapas bar opposite, which plays music in the evenings. We didn't find it too intrusive. The villa's location, close to a couple of karaoke bars, means that occasionally we could hear live music, but it finishes by midnight and also didn't bother us. We felt it was a good compromise, given that we could walk to the centre of town in a few minutes. There's a supermarket and a bus stop just round the corner from the villa, which we found very useful.

All in all, we loved the villa, and had a great holiday due to its facilities and location. The only suggestion I have to make things even better would be to have colour-coded caps on the keys - they look very similar and I often had to try a few before getting the right one (especially in the dark after a few drinks!).

Overall, a fantastic villa with a lovely garden and pool in a perfect location. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Booking Notes:
A 25% deposit is required at the time of booking with the balance due 10 weeks before departure. A £200 damages deposit is included and this will be refunded to you if everything is acceptable following your stay . Local English managers are available to deal with any queries you have.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Friday. On the day of arrival the villa will be available from 4pm and should be vacated by 10am on the day of departure.

Notes on prices:
Prices are based on a maximum of 6 guests. A travel cot and high chair are available for £20 per week each.

Tourism Tax:
From 1st July 2016, visitors to the Balearic Islands have to pay a tourism tax of €1 per day per person over the age of 16 for the first 8 days and then €0.50 per day after that, plus 10 % VAT. Therefore a 7 day holiday will be €7.70 per person and a 14 day holiday will be €12.10 per person. I will request this tax from you with the final balance payment using the exchange rate applicable at that time.
