We recently returned from a wonderful weeks break in Maderia. Our first vist to this beautiful Island.
Following Louise's recommendation we used the services of Manuel, the Airport Taxi Link to transport us to No 15. He was charming very helpful and efficient.
We were met and warmly welcomed by lovely Louise, Raoul and bubbly Lourdes the Caretaker. They provided us with lots of information regarding places to vist and of course where to eat.
The Apartment (NO 2) midlle floor was everything we hoped it would be, we were not disappointed . It was well equipped, immaculate and decorated to very high standard.
View from the private balcony over Funchal and the Harbour were stunning. A lovely area to sit and relax with a drink in the sunshine watching the Cruise Liners arrive in Port.
Louise recommended several Restaurants to visit during our stay and kindly served a table for us at Armazon do Sal to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary mid week. Well worth a visit for the ambience, food and service. A fabulous evening.
Everything had been well thought out to ensure guests enjoyed their stay at this perfect location. We intend to visit again . Thank you. Sue & Ken
Having gathered bookings are busy , we nearly didn't write our 4th review. We want to book again ,,
As others have said perfect appartments -we have stayed in the cottage, lower appartment and middle - all lovely and great views. Its hard to add anything to already 100% reviews.
We hire a car , finding the roads no worse than rural France, and better in alot of areas.
Not all the levadas require serious walking ability or kit (see Jasmine Tea House).
We will return for the 5th time -its just when..
Louise and Raul are lovely and we can't wait to see how the family develop!
The apartment is stunning, with brilliant views over the town. It is fitted with quality furnishings and is very spacious. Louise was very welcoming and took the trouble to go through a local map to explain where shops, taxis, etc were situated and recommended restaurants such as Combatentes and O Tascos which were brilliant and we probably wouldn’t have found. Lourdes was equally welcoming and, even though we were interrupting her cleaning regime, she happily made us a cup of tea, just what we needed after a 5am start! It is easy to walk into town but we found that the buses were a bit hit and miss especially in the evening so we braved the walk back up the hill unless it was raining, when we took a taxi. To see a bit more of the island we booked on a West island tour with Lido Tours which was great value at 20 euros each. Our guide had boundless energy and enthusiasm and involved everyone, despite the potential language barrier, by translating all of his information, observations and jokes into 4 different languages! We used the hop on hop off red bus service which was good value at 12 Euros each as we bought the ticket one lunchtime and it was valid until the end of the following day. In addition if you show the bus ticket at Blandy's they will allow you an extra Madeira wine to taste! A bonus! We used the services of Emanuel for a levada walk (see YouTube) as recommended by Louise and found him very informative and patient despite his challenging group of very mixed abilities. Despite the weather, which was unusually very wet, we have a wonderful time and we would highly recommend this apartment and Madeira itself.
My wife and I have just returned from 2 great weeks at number 15 in apartment 2. The middle floor but were allowed to view number 1 and the top number 3. Your difficult choice will be to pick 1 as they are all superb in their own right. The views from each is simply stunning. We did not have a car as regular visitors to Madeira. But if you hire one the accommodation is very easy to find from the motorway. Although Louise will kindly arrange taxi transfers courtesy of Manuel. Who also offers his services if you need him during your stay. The location is a nice walk downhill all the way to Funchal. Taxis back were on average 5-6 euros. However the no22 bus stops near and the best way to use the buses in Madeira is to buy a weekly ticket
The apartment we were in number 2 was well furnished to a high standard there was certainly everything we needed there. The kitchen had all appliances that you require for cooking and of course washing up courtesy of the dishwasher
I have to point out the comfortable large bed. Great pillows and great nights sleep. Always important. For eating try the old town downhill to the left of the property. In our opinion if you really should not find fault with this accommodation thanks to Louise and Lourdes for the friendly welcome, cleaning and letting us have number 1 when waiting for our evening flight.
Please be warned that if you stay in this apartment you will never want to stay anywhere else in Madeira!! It is spacious, tastefully decorated and has the most amazing views over Funchal. The whole apartment is equipped to the highest standards from the enormous comfortable bed to the power shower that can give you a massage and and the kitchen with every appliance you could need. You will enjoy the relaxation of cooking at home and sitting with a glass of wine enjoying the evening sun as well as having breakfast in your pyjamas watching the world on its way to work!! There is a small price to pay for those amazing views - it's an easy walk into Funchal but a steep walk coming back. However, there are several buses that you can catch to come up the hill and there is always a taxi if you don't want to wait. Or, you can do as we did and learn to walk at the pace of the locals and you will get back without stopping in about 20mins (and we are both in our 70s!!).
Louise was waiting to greet us on our arrival and give us all the information we needed. Whilst she was away on holiday for most of the rest of our stay, Lourdes stepped in and was always on hand to give help and advice. By the time we left we felt we were leaving a friend. You can be assured that you will be well taken care of.
We ate many of the restaurants recommended by Louise and enjoyed them all. Armazem do Sal was particularly good - do reserve a table and the menu with matching wines is value for money at 39 euros. Restaurant Combatentes in the Municipal gardens is good for lunch as shown by the number of locals eating there.
Your biggest problem if you choose to stay here will be choosing between apartments 1, 2 & 3. They are all stunning!!
this was our first time in Madeira and we couldn't have chosen better accommodation. We were in apt 3 and the views and quality of furnishings were outstanding. We walked up the hills a couple of times and although my wife enjoyed this aspect I would rather pay the 5 euros taxi fare. We also dined at Armazem do sal And Tasca as recommended and were not disappointed. Apartment is filled with individual pieces of art work enhancing the quality. Louise and Raul were superb hosts and genuinely couldn't do enough for us. Thanks Allan & Shirley.
