South Facing House At Top Of Medieval Hill Village 75 mins to Bergerac Airport

Overview

Property

Updated: 13-Nov-2016
Cottage in Montaigu de Quercy, Tarn et Garonne, Midi Pyrenees, France - 15 Min Walk/ 5 Min Drive To Swimming Lake With Sandy Beach. Secluded Garden With Wonderful Views

The house is 17th century, built of the local white Quercy stone. It is in a perfect position at the top of the village in the oldest part, under the walls of the Chateau garden. The location is very quiet and our road is a no-through road, so other than one neighbour, no passing cars. You will feel like a local very quickly. Friendly neighbours are French. Doors open off the front bedroom onto a South facing balcony with table and chairs, the perfect place for breakfast or lunch. This bedroom has a romantic king size four poster bed, an antique French armoire and en suite bathroom. This bedroom also has a French day bed, which is the same size as a standard single 3' bed, set up with lots of squashy cushions as a sofa and with a trundle 3' bed that slides out underneath. Second bedroom has king size bed, a large walk-in wardrobe and the bathroom adjoins. Easy parking is opposite the house or on the little road below, but you can drive right up to the house to unload your car. When you arrive, you will find wine, mineral water and milk so you can make a drink and take in the views. Wifi is provided free of charge to our guests.

About the Owner

My husband Peter and I have always loved France, and bought our home there after a bad experience with a rental gite that was uncomfortable and poorly equipped. When not running my country house b&b business near to Stansted Airport, it is my second home. My UK home is very conveniently situated 20 minutes from Stansted Airport for the short flight to Bergerac, and then only 75 minutes drive from Numero Treize. Toulouse is our other closest airport and is 90 minutes drive. The Quercy region of France is, I think, the most beautiful and unspoilt region of all. It is a second home, rather than a gite and I hope that those who rent the house will feel as at home as I do. I have been able to indulge my love of antiques, paintings and comfortable furniture, which I am sure will make for a relaxed and happy holiday in this lovely and unique house. A bottle of wine will be in the fridge when you arrive!

Guestbook comments from the manager

'Fabulous beds, fabulous views and more comfortable than home! Many thanks for a great week.' Colin and Liz.

'The house is perfect in every way, even in winter. Warm and cosy, but the sun streams in to the sitting room and both bedrooms. We loved it, especially with everything close to hand, but at the same time we felt we were in the middle of the country' Sue and Stanley Brown

'Can't wait to come back next year. Lying in the garden soaking up the sun - perfect' June Rai

'Just perfect. Bread, wine, cheese and the sun streaming in. We are in heaven' Chris & Tony Pickering

We loved Numero Treize. We felt relaxed and at home. Winter is a lovely time to be in Montaigu de Quercy and we loved our 'French' Christmas. We joined the local International Club language classes, played boules with the local men and also tennis. We can't wait to return. Christiane and Adrian.

Location

From the Owner

We wanted a house in France where it wasn't necessary to use the car every day just to buy a baguette and we would feel part of the community. Montaigu de Quercy offers just that. It is a beautiful medieval hill village, but has everything you could need for daily living, including an excellent market on Saturdays and a local produce market on Wednesdays in the Summer. The wonderful swimming lake complete with sandy beach, is a 15 minute walk or five minute drive. In high season the lake has a restaurant, tennis courts, mini golf and a picnic area. It also has a zip wire, pedalos and a snack bar. Our house is at the top of the village in the oldest and most peaceful part, facing the church of St. Michele. Historic villages abound in this area and Cahors, Agen, Moissac and Toulouse are within easy reach. There are many vineyards in the area and they welcome visitors.

Facilities

From the Owner

Numero Treize is my second home, and is furnished as such. No tatty furniture or equipment! There is a wood burning stove together with electric heating in every room. However, the weather is exceptionally reliable and very hot in July and August, so there are fans too. The house is 17th c. stone, so very cool in hot weather. You can walk to all the shops and three restaurants from the house. Tennis courts at the bottom of the road with racquets and balls to loan in the house. The garden has a table, chairs, four sunbeds and 2 parasols together with a barbecue. It is completely private and has wonderful views. The village has a supermarket on the outskirts, a bank, boulangerie, butcher, pharmacy, internet cafe and hairdressers. There are many local festivities in the summer months including the famous night markets, which have live music and street food.
