The Docks is all about location, absolute ocean front it is one of the oldest houses in Paul do Mar & has just undergone a complete restoration to create 3 stunning apartments. The emphases is on comfort & quality with each property comprising of an open plan kitchen/dining, living area, bathroom & 2 very spacious bedrooms. Every-room has the most incredible ocean views, beautifully decorated to a very high standard & each with a slightly individual feel. Outside guests have access to the shared terrace, here you can relax, have dinner or watch the amazing sunsets that Paul do mar is famous for! Each property has cable TV, free wi-fi internet & a complete guide about the facilities, the local area & things to do. Free parking by the Harbour, car recommended. About Louise Allison

Born in Norfolk UK, i met my Husband in Australia and after getting Married in 2002 we moved to Madeira where my husband is originally from. We really enjoy living on this beautiful little Island. Our passion is renovating properties, turning something old and run down into a new stylish home to rent or sell!

Why Louise Allison chose Paul Do Mar

The Docks just spoke to us when we first found it in 2008. A ruin that was literally crumbling away & desperately in need of some love & attention. At one time it was the tallest stone house in Madeira & one of the first houses to be built in this little harbour village. Finally after a few years we returned to Paul do Mar & managed to locate the owner, some how it was meant to be ours, it has been a wonderful project restoring the house & bringing it back to life again.

What makes this apartment unique

Every room in this property has amazing ocean views, it´s light, spacious & has so much character. The location next to the small harbour & beach is really unique & the scenery is beathtaking. The benefits of staying in an area like this mean you are close to nature, walking & really getting to experience what Madeira is all about. it´s also a great base to explore the rest of the Island or just chill out on the terrace by the sea. We have really focussed on things like, comfy beds & sofas, quality fixtures & fittings & fantastic showers with lots of hot water after all those Levada walks! Our philosophy is that we do not expect our guests to stay anywhere that we wouldn´t really enjoy ourselves!

We are a local company based in Madeira & handle all payments directly. The service fee & Liability Insurance must be paid directly through the Homeaway website.

We accept payment by visa, master card or a bank transfer. We require a 30% deposit to obtain confirmation & the 70% balance is paid 45 days prior to your arrival date. Bookings made less than 6 weeks prior to the arrival date are requested to pay in full at time of booking.

Guests must inform the property of their arrival details. Directions and key collection details will be sent by email once payment has been received in full.

In the event of cancellations all payments are non refundable / Date changes accepted.

Breakages or damages will be charged to your credit card & guests who have paid by bank transfer must pay for damages or breakages prior to check-out.

Rates based on 2 guests can occupy either a king size double bed or 2 single beds, if you require the use of both bedrooms there will be an extra linen charge of €30.

The 2 single beds can be made into a Kingsize double bed.

1 Child under 2 sleeping in a travel cot goes free, cot & high chair provided free of charge. One cot available per apartment.

  • The bathroom has 2 basins with a marble vanity unit & a wooden bench underneath for storage. A large walk-shower with plenty of piping hot water (great after all those levada walks) heated towel rail & hairdryer. All towels provided. Please bring your own beach towels.

The Docks has a Shared outdoor terrace with tables & chairs. The Pebble Beach is opposite the property. Free Parking is in the immediate area next to the harbour. Cleaning can be arranged at an extra charge. There is no washing machine.

Excellent apartment in quiet location

ery well maintained, equipped and clean apartment in an ideal location if you like it quiet. Fantastic views over harbour and ocean.

Paul do Mar is (in December at least) a sleepy but friendly village; we really liked it. As other say, a car is absolutely essential. Only 10 minutes to supermarket and beach at Calheta. Weather in early December was generally warm (20C) and partly sunny - a great contrast to the UK!

Owners were extremely helpful from start to finish. Thoroughly recommend this apartment.

Apartment 3 is 5 star

My wife, daughter and I stayed in the apartment for 1 wk, immediately following my wife and I staying for 1 week at Louise's Apartment 3 in Funchal. Both apartments are 5 star, the descriptions and photos are accurate. Both were very well fitted out with everything we needed (quality and quantity) and clean. Both apartments are in a great location and staying in each one provided a great contrast of location (city and village), are in great location with Paul do Mar and Funchal and offered the same high standard. Louise was very helpful from the time we first contacted her all the way through to the end of stay. We can thoroughly recommend a stay in either or both.

Great place to relax, enjoy the sun and walk

The property awaited us spotless and has a very tasteful interior. We stayed for 10 days with our baby who loved his cot provided for him. It's so nice to step outside and enjoy the ocean and the steep cliff with waterfall right nextdoor. Walking up that cliff gives stunning views and you are rewarded with a barefoot path (for tired feet) and a good-value-for-really-little-money lunch in the hotel at the top. Also the outside terrace of The Docks is ideal for sundowners after a action packed day.

All in all we highly recommend this place to stay.

Beautiful apartment, delightful location

We had a lovely relaxing holiday in No 3 The Docks.

Having arrived in Paul do Mar in the dark we will never forget opening the curtains on the first morning - every window has a breathtaking view.

A beautifully restored, spotlessly clean, well-equipped apartment. It had everything we could possibly need. We have already recommended it to several friends, and hope to return.

Paul do Mar is a beautiful, peaceful fishing village with its own life - not a touristy place.

Spend a good time on Madera

The apartament is really five star offer. The kitchen ready to prepare your own meal if you want to (well equipped), living room where you can spend evenings reading and listening to the music. The terrace with beautiful evening view. And a little fishing harbour just nearby, with fishermen selling fresh espadas from their boats. The hosts are descrete and careful.

Superbe appartement avec vue imprenable

Appartement chic avec magnifique vue sur la mer et le petit port de Paul Do Mar.

Beaucoup de randonnées à proximité.

Louise est une hôtesse très sympathique toujours prête à répondre à nos questions.

On regrettera simplement l'absence de machine à laver, manque qui doit être comblé lors de prochains travaux.

Excuses qu'il n'y avait pas de machine à laver, un nouveau service de blanchisserie va être créé sous peu, ce qui fournira l'espace et facilites pour les clients de ne laver, accrocher les serviettes de bain ou magasin equippment plongée avec tuba, nous avons un excellent service de blanchisserie locale dans les environs de Arco Callheta mais comme vous l'avez dit, il est agréable d'avoir votre propre machine. Merci encore d'avoir choisi o Les Docks!

Paul do Mar is on the south west coast, famous for it´s year round warm sunny climate & beautiful sunsets it is located at the foot of the cliffs, this unique landscape surrounded by banana plantations & quaint little streets has plenty to explore & at one time you could only get there by boat, today thanks to the new roads it can be easily accessed & is just a short drive from the villages of Jardim do Mar & Calheta. This Historical house has uninterrupted views of the ocean & is only a few steps from the beach & harbour where it´s safe to swim in the sea. There is a Levada walk that starts just around the corner & takes you up along the original paths to the village of Prazers, the views are breathtaking! You can also walk for several km along the ocean front, admire the waves & watch the surfers! There´s a handful of cafés, restaurants, a small grocery store, a bank & in nearby Calheta there is a sandy beach & Marina, you can go Game fishing, dolphin & whale watching or visit Casa das Mudas art gallery along with more restaurants and a supermarket. This area offers fantastic scenery, nature, walking & generally getting away from it all & it´s a great winter escape too for some warm sunny relaxation by the sea. Access to the main roads is just a short drive so you can still be in Funchal within half an hour by car & explore the rest that Madeira has to offer.
