I live in Gibraltar with my wife Lara with our youngest daughter and our dog Poppy. I moved here in May 2013 and I am the MD of the Gibraltar's Stock Exchange! We have been coming to Lanzarote for years since I decided to compete in the Ironman Lanzarote Triathlon, the world's hardest. After a kick up the bum from a local cancer charity, in May 2009, after two years of training, stopping smoking, losing 30 kilos and 14 hours, I finally achieved my dream. We lived in our villa for a year, so it's our home, not just a rental! We love the island, the tranquility is unique, the temperature is perfect and we hope you will love our home as much as we do.

Great family holiday

We all had a great time at Villa Lara – the place was lovely and really well maintained. We felt at home and relaxed immediately and had a fantastic holiday. The marina with all the bars and restaurants was only a short walk away and easily done with 2 children (aged 5 and 8). The only problem is that my wife hasn’t stopped badgering me for a hot tub since we got back!!

We will definitely be returning...

I always try to leave an honest review that I would like to have read before I book any accommodation.

PRO'S

Large villa very spacious inside and out, clean, quiet residential location, lovely pool and real bonus to have heating included, good area to travel around from, walk to shops and restaurants.

CONS

Not a brand new villa and several areas needed a lick of paint. Not offered use of garage. Large items in kitchen really good quality but silly little things like cutlery and glasses poorly equipped. It is a downhill walk to marina and shops and unless very fit would never do it in 5 mins. Not 5 min walk to beach, there is a strip of water outside of marina but not classed as beach in online reviews. You need to drive to Playa Del Carmen for the beach. We never found supermarket 2 mins walk from villa. Main worry was the blinds, most were broken so could not close properly and some would not open so in a fire there was no means of escape. The owner is aware of the problem so please check this has been repaired as dangerous.

In summary we had a good holiday at the villa and it was reasonably priced but it was not the villa described on this site. A shame really because it could be made into a fantastic villa

Lovely villa, perfect for a family holiday. Just a 5 min stroll to the harbour. The managers Rossi and Kelly are fabulous and do everything possible to make your stay perfect.

Location

From the Owner

We decided to buy in Puerto Calero after extensive searching of the island. It is only 10 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from Puerto del Carmen but yet it is incredibly tranquil. The Marina at Calero is stunning with a dozen restaurants to choose from (Spanish, Italian, Mexican), top brand shops, bars, and a supermarket. The range of mega-yachts is a sight to behold and there is a small beach as well. Additionally, another supermarket is across the road from the villa. Calero has 24 hour security so you feel completely safe. There is a 4 star and a 5 star hotel nearby and yet at it is silent at night.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Marina 5 minute walk. Puerto del Carmen beaches 5 minutes drive. Playa Blanca beaches 20 minutes drive. Famara surf beach 20 minute drive.

Travel:

Arrecife Airport is 10km away (10 minutes drive.) Car hire is not crucial, but recommended. There is a taxi rank in Puerto Calero, but if you wish to explore the island, then a car is suggested.

Distances:

Puerto del Carmen 5 minutes drive.

Yaiza 10 minutes drive.

Timanfaya National Park 10 minutes.

Arrecife 20 minutes.

Playa Blanca 20 minutes.

Teguise 20 minutes.

Further Details:

Puerto Calero is 5 minutes walk from Number 32. The marina has a large selection of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets from a humble cafe to the famous Amura restaurant. There are plenty of bars, top brand shops and a supermarket. The marina offers sailing, Marlin fishing, submarine and catamaran rides. There are 2 five star hotels offering Spa facilities, tennis and further bars and restaurants. From Calero one can take the coastal path into Puerto del Carmen straight into the Old Town for dinner. Alternatively, heading West along the coastal path takes you to Playa Quemada, home to the best fish restaurant on the island. For keen cyclists, the Ironman Triathlon cycle route goes through Calero, so the sportier types can use the villa as a perfect base for training. It is also a short run from Puerto del Carmen where both the swim and the run sections of the race take place. For shopping, Carmen has the Bioshpere Centre where most brands can be found. Carmen also has amazing beaches and hundreds of bars and restaurants. The villa is also only 10 minutes from the Timanfaya National Park where the power of the volcano can be seen first-hand.

The property offers many benefits. Firstly, it has a large, heated sunken pool with huge decking, jacuzzi and a large BBQ. The veranda is covered offering shade and all year-round outdoor dining. All of the rooms have security black out blinds and double glazing, both of which can offer a number of combinations for ventilation. 3 of the 4 bedrooms are en-suite with large built in wardrobes. The kitchen is finished to a very high specification and links to the solarium and utility room, providing the perfect location for washing and drying clothes. A large double garage offers cool parking (with electric doors and an electric gate into the villa.) The house is brand new and everything has been well thought through offering extremely easy living.
