About the Owner

We're a bi-cultural family : I'm English and my husband Hervé is French, with two grown-up sons who live in Dubai and Paris. We spent many years in Paris and enjoyed every minute of the buzz and excitement of big city living. But once the boys had grown up and left home, we decided to change lifestyle and move to an area of France with a high quality of living. We opted for the beautiful Dordogne and for the last ten years have been enjoying its warmth, relaxed pace and friendliness. Sunshine, stunning scenery, historic chateaux, fabulous local food and wine ... the combination is hard to beat !

A great week in a great property

  • 4 of 5

La Chartreuse 6 – 12 August 2016

Together with our daughter, son-in-law and their three children, we had a lovely one-week stay at La Chartreuse. It is an interesting and comfortable old property in a beautiful setting, with far reaching views. And, of course, the children loved the beautiful pool (kept immaculately clean by Herve).

Susan and Herve are very welcoming hosts, living in the adjacent property. They offered useful advice on what was on in surrounding villages and where to find good restaurants. We made good use of the BBQ and wide range of sporting equipment (including table tennis table, badminton net and rackets and a boule set).

We would not normally be excited by access to a TV, but it was the Olympics, so we were delighted to be able to watch BBC coverage.

In short, a great week in a great property.

A perfect property with perfect hosts

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming to France for family holidays for the past 10 years and La Chartreuse is the best property that we have stayed at.

The property is set in beautiful grounds which are quiet and secluded. The pool is stunning and in a gorgeous setting. The house itself is comfortable and well equipped - we had everything we needed.

La Chartreuse is situated in an ideal location to explore the Dordogne - Bergerac to the south, Perigeaux to the north and Sarlat to the east are all easily accessible.

On top of this, Susan and Herve were perfect hosts. Unobtrusive yet also on hand to provide information and insight to help us make the most of our time in the Dordogne

Fabulous holiday at La Chartreuse!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our 2 week stay at La Chartreuse. The cottage and its location was everything we had hoped for- a lovely, spacious cottage with a stunning swimming pool, all situated in fabulous grounds with incredible views. What more could you want! Susan and Hervé are truly wonderful hosts, and made us all feel very welcome. The cottage itself is situated across the courtyard from their house, and they were always on hand to answer any questions or offer advice as to what we might enjoy visiting in the region. Nothing was ever too much trouble for our hosts.

The cottage is very well equipped with everything you might need. There were also plenty of games on offer - badminton, table tennis, football, boules, even several boxes of Lego, all of which went down a treat with the children and parents alike. The cottage is located in extremely peaceful surroundings which is just what we wanted. There is so much for all the family to enjoy in this region of the Dordogne, all of which is a reasonable distance when travelling by car. What was just a nice, however, was spending lazy days by the fabulous pool, enjoying the breathtaking views on offer.

Fantastic supermarkets and a good soft play area for young children for wet weather days is around 15km away.

We shall definitely be visiting La Chartreuse again and would recommend this cottage without hesitation.

Dordogne holiday at La Chartreuse

  • 5 of 5

On arrival at La Chartreuse our first impression was ‘wow’ on seeing this beautifully restored property and owner’s house across the courtyard. The large and extremely well maintained pool is stunning and situated in a lovely open space enjoying breathtaking views across the fields. Our hosts, Susan and Hervé gave us a lovely warm welcome and with their extensive knowledge of the area were able to advise on all the best places to visit. Whilst the property is tucked away from it all, it is still less than an hour away from most of the Dordogne’s beautiful medieval villages and chateaux. The sympathetically restored property is spacious, well equipped and has all the amenities for a very comfortable stay. Stay at La Chartreuse and you will not be disappointed. From the Owner

Chance (or fate!) brought us to South West France on a flying visit and we decided to check out a couple of properties on sale to get a feel for the area. La Chartreuse was one of them and we fell in love with it at first sight. Having decided that this was The Place for us, we spent a whole year having it restored and renovated to the level of comfort we needed for ourselves and our future guests.
