This magnificent old French farmhouse on the border of Normandy and the Pays de la Loire is an ideal location for parties, reunions and family holidays. The house is furnished with French antiques, comfy beds, large buffets and vintage chairs, and combines traditional country living with the comforts of modern life. To the front of the house is a large courtyard area, which provides ample off road parking, and a games barn, with table tennis table. To the rear of the property is a large walled garden with fruit trees, lawn area and nature garden. The house provides a relaxing home from which to explore the natural, historical and culinary delights of this beautiful area of France.
Approx 50 miles away is the Le Mans racing circuit and the house would be a good base for groups of motor cyclists or motor racing enthusiasts and the barn could be used for secure parking for motor cycles or Classic cars.
This fine French farmhouse was purchased by Graham and Helen Pickett about 8 years ago. Initially its large barns were used as a Brocante (A French Antiques Shop) , the Pickett family business, but for the last 5 years has been run as a holiday let by Graham's son and daughter-in-law, David and Heidi. After visiting the area on antiques business for 20 years the Picketts fell in love with the region because of its beautiful surroundings, historical buildings, relaxed lifestyle and above all else the fantastic food.
Helen Pickett purchased this house in 2004
We bought this house initially because we came to it for our antiques buying, when it came up for sale we bought it straight away because we had always loved it and had friends and colleagues in the area. The surrounding area is full of lovely little villages, walking in the woods, bars and restaurants.
The house itself has always been a family home and we have had the most fantastic New Year and summer parties here with friends. A favourite spot is sitting on the front steps listening to the frogs.
Another consideration was its relative proximity to the French ports and well under a days journey from their home in the Midlands of England.
The size of the property means that families, or groups of friends, can find their own space or quiet area and with the large dining table can gather for meals together. The village amenities are a very short walk away as is the river. The enclosed courtyard and rear garden are good for games, the fish pond is lovely for sitting by.
