About Jackie Portlock

Hello - my name is Jackie Portlock and I am the owner of this beautiful house which has been in my family for 35 years. My husband and I spent many happy times here when our children were younger and the house is full of lovely memories for us - so much so that when I inherited it 7 years ago, we could not bear to part with it. So I set about a complete renovation project which kept the original charm of the house but added luxuries such as raised decks from which to view the beautiful gardens, a fantastic Jacuzzi hydrotherapy spa hot tub housed in a timber vaulted gazebo, double BBQ, 3 luxury bathrooms, and beautifully decorated interior. This is not just a holiday home - this is a real home full of warmth and character - we love this house and we hope you will too.

Why Jackie Portlock chose New Forest

The house has been in the family for 35 years and it was originally purchased because of its unique location ie the property is in the centre of a corner plot at the top of a quiet country road. The garden contains many mature shrubs, beautiful rhododendrons and is bordered on one side by the original orchard wall. It is completely secluded. Bransgore is a thriving village on the edge of the New Forest National Park and has the unusual benefit of 3 excellent pub/restaurants within walking distance, a village parade where you can buy pretty much everything. It is minutes away from a gorgeous beach and equidistant between Ringwood and Christchurch. All this and yet it's so peaceful, the owls hoot in the oak trees at night, there are no street lights so the stars shine brighter - it's magic!

What makes this house unique

Main benefits are its village location ie everything you need within walking distance, it's proximity to several lovely beaches, the breathtaking scenery so lovely at all times of year whether springtime when the New Forest ponies and their adorable foals are literally everywhere, the summer when the beaches beckon, the Autumn when everything turns to gold or the Winter months when the hot-tub is real fun! Virasol has the lot - whether it's walking, cycling, local fine dining, a peaceful break with friends sharing an excellent pint beside a roaring fire, superb golf, endless amusements for children of all ages or fab nightlife in Bournemouth. Alternatively, wallow in the hot-tub, BBQ on balmy nights, lounge on the sun-decks, breathe in the pine-scented air and switch off the mobile !

I just wanted to let you know that we had the most fabulous week at Virasol.The house was so well equipped with absolutely everything we could ever have needed, and the outside space meant we were able to catch the rays at every time of day and evening. Notes on accommodation: No smoking. No pets. Stair gates , high chair and travel cot provided for parties with young children. Unfortunately we do not take bookings for hen or stag parties. Outside: The house is situated in the centre of a third of an acre plot bordered by an original orchard wall. It is surrounded on 3 sides by raised sun decks and features a pergola walkway down to a jacuzzi hot tub situated in a wooden vaulted gazebo. There is a paved area surrounding the large brick-built BBQ and the garden is laid to shrubs and features 3 lawned areas with apple, conifer and rhododendrons. Bikes can be stored in the hot tub area. There are 2 patio sets, parasols and recliners with soft cushions plus a hammock. The house and grounds are beautifully lit at night. There is gravel drive with trellised off parking within the grounds for 3 cars with room for a further two outside the main gates. Utility Room: Larder fridge, freezer, BBQ tools, buckets, spades, mop, airer, storage chest, cushions for patio set and umbrella, highchair. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels (1 hand, 1 bath per person) included, all bedlinen, table linen, tea towels etc included. Property thoroughly cleaned and all linen changed after each let. Other: Hot tub is housed at rear of garden under vaulted wooden gazebo. It is reached via a pergola walkway leading up to the kitchen French doors.

Great place for a family break!

We were impressed by this property as soon as we found it. It was the right size (5 beds/ sleeps 10) and location (right on our target search location band). Booking was easy and thereafter communications with the owner were first class.

All the arrangements were set out clearly and accurately. The directions were very easy to follow (varied slightly from the SatNav route, but nothing significant) and first access was easy.

The welcome hamper was well-filled with relevant provisions for starters. We found plenty of everything (towels/ crockery/ cutlery/ cooking stuff) that we needed and hardly used any of the stuff we had brought.

Allocating the rooms was tricky (!) due to our family groupings but everybody was very happy with what they got. Plenty of room to be together - or in smaller groups. Huge range of tapes/ games/ DVDs/ CDs/ books etc to cater for everybody's tastes. The table really does (s)eat 10 people! Whole house was on the warm side for us but clearly the central heating/ hot water is up to the job.

Grounds were well presented although for weather and other activities we didn't really use the garden - except as the pathway to the hot tub. Eight of us used it several times over and the 4 granddaughters really, really enjoyed it!

For another whole-family occasion we'd certainly look at re-booking, as it was so comfortable, well-equipped and nicely located so convenient for so many different activities.

Home from with a hot tub

This was our third year at Virasol and hopefully will not be our last, the house is great for large family groups we are 6 adults and 4 children, the weather was fantastic so we spent most days on the beach, southbourn, fryers cliff and highcliff all great sandy beaches and fantastic fun in the sea, we also visited Moors Valley park good cycle roots and safe for the children, we made good use of the BBQ and the hot tub, the hamper that Jackie left us was brilliant as always, can't think of a better place to spend a week with the family, the children call it the hot tub house and absolutely love it.

Perfect place to stay

We spent 3 nights at Virasol for my husbands 40th birthday. It was a family trip and there were 10 of us including 4 kids... We all loved Virasol. Such a great house with lots of space and everything you could need for your trip. There's a great garden with a big BBQ and a lovely hot tub. The owners were so helpful and left an amazing welcome hamper. There's lots to do nearby - we went crabbing at Mudeford, to Moors Valley Country park (great play area, cafe, steam train, walks and Go Ape treetop adventure course) and to Highcliffe castle and beach .... The perfect house in the perfect location!

A fantastic place to stay!

We enjoyed a lovely long weekend at Virasol. The accommodation was very suitable for our family and very well equipped. It certainly felt like a home and not a holiday house. A huge hamper welcomed us full of delicious treats! The BBQ and hot tub were very much enjoyed. An ideal location for exploring the area. Great house with great garden

Great house with plenty of space for everyone, the garden is enclosed by fencing all the way round so it's safe for the children to run about, and a relaxing soak in the hot tub after a long day having fun was much appreciated by grown-ups and children alike. The kitchen is well equipped with all that you need and the barbecue in the garden was great we used it twice. We also found the pink folder left by Jackie helpful giving lots of ideas of what to do and where to go in the area. We are a family of six adults and four children so having three bathrooms is a definite plus for us. Fantastic house is in a lovely area we would recommend this to anyone
