Fabulous villa with stunning views
We were 2 families with 5 kids and the villa was brilliantly well equipped for us all to have a fun and relaxing holiday. Plenty of space and fully equipped internally. Outside, the pool, the grounds and table tennis area made for hours of fun. The outside dining area and BBQ are fantastic and the views across to the Alpuan Alps are spectacular and change constantly over the day as the light changes - very special! The villa is situated perfectly for trips to the coast for gems such as the Cinque Terre and Portofino, beautiful mountain villages and historical towns such as Pisa, Florence and Lucca. The owner Claudia is lovely, responding to all our questions quickly. We will all take away some very special memories of our time in this beautiful villa. Thanks Claudia!

Fabulous Rustico
Our extended family - pensioners to teenagers - spends two weeks in a villa each summer and we really lucked out with the rustico. The house was excellent for us, with tonnes of space and lovely rooms. We spent many hours in and by the pool, in the shade in the big garden, doing jigsaws and playing boggle in the dining room, doing yoga in the library, cooking then eating and talking al fresco while watching the moon over the marble mountains across the valley. No noise except the crickets. The location is great, we day-tripped to cinque terre then went again it was so good, our gourmands found a new town to look at and a new restaurant to eat at every lunchtime, and our runners loved the steep road up the hill behind to the church in the cool of the morning with no traffic. Too hot to run by 10am. The cleaning and keys went like clockwork and the pool man couldn't do enough for us. All in all, fabulous.

A Fantastic Week
We were 2 families with small children (aged 4 to 8) and we all loved our stay. The house is very comfortable with superb bedrooms and bathrooms. The terrace was perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We never ate inside and spent most days enjoying the pool. Our children expplored the grounds around the house. We would recommend it to anyone, but especially families with younger children. Claudia (the owner) was also very helpful by email and phone prior to our visit.

Peaceful
A bit difficult to find despite precise guidance by the owners. Upon our arrival, the owner had came to the property from outside of Italy specifically to make sure everything is as one would come to expect, hand over the keys and explain everything. Spacious house, well maintained, great pool and huge garden. Very quiet and peaceful. The kids loved it, quite a change from the big city. The kitchen was well equipped. The sea is within easy reach by car. We can only recommend it and would definitely stay there again if we were to spend some time again in the same region.

Great house and fantastic views!
Great house and stunning views - the view from the terrace to the mountains is amazing!! I have stayed in this property on 2 occasions now, we loved it so much the first time we rented it again 2 years later and enjoyed it just as much. Our group was 2 families and the house was perfect size for the 4 adults and 4 children. Many things for the children to do - the pool, sandpit, play area and exploring the grounds. We even had the offer of using the owners equipment for the children and it was no problem to have the bedrooms set up as we needed with cot etc. It is a remote property so you accept that it is a drive to the restuarants/supermarket but that was not a problem. The house is well looked after and the owners were very helpful with any queries we had. Even a suggestion we had made after the first visit had been done when we visited again 2 years later! I would not normally want to visit the same place more than once but I would happily come back to this house again.

About the host

Host profile image
My husband and I are both Italians, but we spent half of our lives in London. Although we speak Italian, the locals call us "the inglesi", and since we moved to Zurich, "the svizzeri". We were both professionals in the City, but grew tired of the fast-paced rythm of life and were looking for a place to relax, unwind and show our children what it was like to live in the countryside.
We have found in our house the ideal combination: it is countryside, but very close to the sea and the mountains, quiet but still close enough to a city if you get nostalgic. We love going there, and listen to the local people talking about porcini mushrooms and grapes. The children love it too, they are always out exploring, and in summer spend the entire day in the pool.

Why they chose this property

We bought the house in 2003 when the only thing still standing were the external walls. It laid empty and abandoned for more than fifty years and it showed ! But the view was magnificent and the area so lovely, we just took the plunge. And every time we go there, we know why we did it: the space, the light, the food, everything is telling you to relax and enjoy. We lived for many years in London, and we loved coming here, it was a chance to get away from the stress and the concrete of a big city. Here you wake up and there are pheasants roaming the fields, and a family of roe deer living in the bush by the river.
You can chill by the pool and look at the spectacular Apuan Alps, and in the evening have a barbecue or go looking for the excellent local cuisine.
This year we have added the first floor of the stable that faces the main house. With this addition we can now hosts three families. The stable, located in front of the pool, has beautiful views of the Apuan Alps and the nearby fields

What makes this property unique

The house is easily accessible from the motorway, and the road does not have many sharp turns, a godsend since one of our children suffers from car sickness.
There are a few houses on the north side, but all are at least 200 yrds away, and we fenced and put bushes to create more privacy. On the south side you see the local village in the distance and above that the Apuan Alps. The property has 38,000sq.m of its own land, so you feel you have privacy without being too isolated. The main house has all the features of a lived in house, with a fully equipped kitchen, a library and a piano on the first floor
