About the Owner

We moved to South Ham Farm from another house in Muchelney in 1997 because of its peaceful location and surrounding land.

South Ham Barn was converted into a single dwelling from a wagon-house. We have a flock of sheep, 2 horses,a few hens and sometimes pigs. Our 3 children have left home and we retired from medical practice in 2008.

In December 2009, a heated indoor swimming pool was completed. It is available for the exclusive use of guests for at least 10 hours per day, and at other times by agreement.

Muchelney Ham is a very beautiful place and we feel privileged to live here.

Disappointed, we were lucky we had nice weather!

  • 3 of 5

The house is lovely and the pool is also, albeit the pool is not attached to the house, you have to walk to another building. I was disappointed to find there are pool times. After 9am -7pm. I have stayed in 3 other properties with pools and have never been given pool times before.

It doesn't feel like your on your own as the owners property is opposite yours in the same grounds. Although they are nice people, I felt I had no privacy, they were always in view. In the week I stayed I had the gardener making a lot of noise for most of the day and window cleaners in invading my breakfast. Also people coming in to ride the horses and the quad going back and fore. It was too busy, I would not go back

Owner's Response: The property is not isolated and we prefer to keep the grass cut and windows clean. Also the pool has to be checked and cleaned. We remain happy to discuss any matters that are a concern and are flexible with the pool opening times.

Stress free, relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful with lots of homely touches. It is clean and has everything you need. You do not need to bring extra towels for the swimming pool since they are provided for you. Also everyday items such as foil, kitchen rolls, toilet roll are also provided. The location is very peaceful and extremely beautiful. We went out on excursions during the day and then came back and messed around in the pool during the afternoons. Peter and Elizabeth are both such friendly and lovely people. They don't invade your privacy but they are always around if you require anything. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Best rental

  • 5 of 5

I can only echo everything already written - we brought our 2 kids 7/11 and they loved it. Liz and Peter could not have been more accomodating and respected our privacy. Its a great location with direct access to the levels and the network of paths. Also very quiet but within an easy drive of several small towns for shopping etc.

Wonderful !

  • 5 of 5

South Ham Barn is without a doubt the best holiday cottage we have stayed in.

Absolutely spotless ,some lovely touches - milk, homemade bread and cake on arrival, well equipped and incredibly comfortable beds.

The pool was a brilliant bonus, our little one loved swimming every day - as did we all.

Just a beautiful ,tranquil place to be, plenty to do in the area and walks directly from the cottage.

We will definitely be back !

Thanks to Liz and Peter for being excellent hosts.

Fantastic welcome, lovely cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Family of four with 2 primary age children stayed and all thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The property is well presented and equipped and the small details such as the home made bread and fruit cake in the welcome pack were a delightful surprise.

The pool is great, the children had a fantastic time and it was suitable for our youngest (non-swimmer) as well. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the sunny spring weather certainly helped show it at its best.

The best part of the stay though was the generous welcome extended by the owners, they allowed the children to play with and walk their dogs which the children will always remember. There were lambs, horses and chickens to delight in as well. Very safe environment for the children to explore and play in which meant that we relaxed too. Very peaceful location, lovely walks/runs from the property.

Highly recommended

Lovely barn in a really peaceful location. Very friendly, welcoming owners and everything you need for an idyllic holiday. The property was very clean and well maintained. Having use of a private pool was brilliant and the relaxing walks from the farm were very enjoyable. Would recommend for anyone wanting to get away from it all.

From the Owner

South Ham Farm is located at the edge of Muchelney Ham near the ancient village of Muchelney on the Somerset Levels an area of outstanding beauty and character. Having lived in the village for 20 years, we did not want to leave it so were very happy to move down the road when this property became available. The farm land attached has allowed us to pursue our interest in breeding sheep and keeping horses.
