About the property

Holiday Home (Casita) in Mala, Lanzarote - Tranquil Village Location, Sea and Mountain Views

The Pool House is set in the grounds of a restored finca in the rural village of Mala. The village is open and well-spread with a wonderful sense of space and quiet. It is surrounded by cactus fields for as far as the eye can see, and hawks, hoopoes, swifts and herons can be spotted regularly. It is like taking a step back in time, the greatest source of noise is the rustling of palm trees - or maybe the village cockerel! The terraces at the Pool House have panoramic sea and mountain views. Enjoy superb sunrises, or, perhaps watch the mountains change colour at sunset, with a chilled sundowner in hand. The Pool House favours couples who appreciate peaceful surroundings, space, nature and the outdoor life. The house garden always has something to offer - tomatoes, peppers, herbs, lemons, passionfruit - depending on the season, and visitors are welcome to help themselves to whatever is available.

The most relaxing holiday in rural Mala.

  • 5 of 5

Excellent accommodation, with a home from home feel. It can often be daunting arriving at a new holiday destination, but have no fear this is just simply perfect. The kitchen is very well equipped so that self catering is almost like being in your own kitchen. Evenings were spent listening to our own music followed by one of the the many DVD film choices piled high in the cupboard. Great to see some of the old films again. The bedroom is comfortable with plenty of cupboard space, and many books to browse. Easy living for three weeks in plenty of sunshine, allowing a dip in the salt water pool. We had lovely walks to the back of the Poolhouse along the coastal path, and in another direction over to the dam where the views across the ocean were spectacular. We also walked to Arrieta for a supermarket shop, which gave us plenty of exercise, and the odd cycle ride to the local beach and Pedro's (Arkwright's) shop helped us to keep fit, as lazing around for three weeks is ok....

Julie and Richard are great at just being there, helping out in any way they can if and when needed without being at all imposing. Good restaurant in the village, and more in Arrieta. We don't drive when on holiday relying on good local transport to take us up and down the island. A great way to spend January when the temperature at home reached sub zero.

Thanks Julie and Richard we had a great time.

Paradise

  • 5 of 5

A very unique property that we were lucky enough to stumble across on the Internet. Any future trip to Lanzarote will certainly see us back here. We have been spoiled now for accommodation as we will always expect this standard (and that’s coming from seasoned travellers). We thought we’d found Paradise.

A clean, attractive, solar heated pool, lovely views either side, all set in a nice quiet, Canarian village (but with excellent eateries). Plenty to see in the region (including great markets) but travelling further afield is no problem either as the island isn’t that big. It was perfect for us as we really do not like the tourist towns.

We had the use of two bikes that took us to local villages and beaches which was enjoyable and good exercise (the roads mostly have cycle lanes).

The quality of the accommodation is second to none, so clean, with comfy beds, great cooking facilities and range of pots and utensils plus a full size fridge! Nice sitting area with an endless supply of DVDs/books for evenings in (we were here in winter). Lots of outdoor facilities with chairs, sunloungers, tables, plus a BBQ and a sheltered area with further seating around the side of the poolhouse.

I would mention though that outside of winter you may be wakened rather early by the light streaming in so bring an eye mask! It wasn’t a problem for us in winter as it didn’t become light until 7:30am.

Even though the owners, Julie and Rich, are in their house 30 metres away you are not overlooked and feel as though you are here on your own. However, if you need them they are there and always more than helpful with advice or any practical matters. They have struck the balance perfectly between being attentive and allowing you your privacy.

Julie and Rich have rescue dogs that are adorable, friendly and well-behaved. If you like dogs then you’re in for a treat and if you don’t like dogs you will find they won’t trouble you.

The Poolhouse has a guest book which is crammed full of positive comments. I can’t understand why there are so few reviews on the Owners Direct website as everyone who comes here enthuses about it (apart from one couple out of dozens).

We highly recommend the Poolhouse, it has to be seen to be believed.

A jewel, well appointed, quiet, lovely views.

The property was spotless, well-maintained and thoughtfully equipped. Julie was very helpful and provided a welcome pack of food to settle us in. The pool area was super, sun all day long, and the pool temperature ideal. Bars and decent food within walking distance, (take a torch), 15 minutes cycle on the very good bikes provided to Arrieta with a lovely beach, more bars and restaurants, including a tiny pizza place worth a visit. Walks from the house. No traffic noise, just the sounds of the countryside. We won't look elsewhere in The Canaries. Recommended for peace and quiet

Fabulous !!!

  • 5 of 5

What can I say.... we booked this last minute....a break away from "the norm" for us. Although quiet it was relaxing and had everything you need. WOW ...Julie and Sid made us feel so welcome. The Pool House was just amazing. .. the whole holiday exceeded our expectations. The girls (dogs) came to see us every day, Ruby and Sooky, not forgetting the boys, Freddie and Morro ...so loving.

Two more visits already booked in .... definitely recommend. .. if you have doubts ...dont ..you will love it.

Ideal location

  • 5 of 5

I reserved the Pool House on the basis that it would be ideal for my first visit to Lanzarote to do some road cycling and have some where to relax and recover after the exertion. A warm welcome from Julie awaited as I arrived slightly later than intended due to a delayed flight and car hire queue.

I made use of the self-catering facilities but evening meals were mainly taken in the wonderful local bar/restaurant Arepera. I was made so welcome and as Julie advised, the quality of the food is superb and the portions are large.

It was too early in the year to have a dip in the very inviting pool so I'll have to get plans in place for a return visit.

I can only but highly recommend a visit to the Pool House.
