This is without doubt one of the best villas in the region, set in the old first built development in Vilamoura, and has a rare elevated position with long views stretching 20 miles. (Note the newer villas are in many cases 2 miles or more away from Marina, sometimes not even in Vilamoura!). It is architecturally interesting, with many curved rooms, including circular master bedroom, with dressing room and en-suite shower room. We have 6 terraces with seating facing in every direction, so always sun on a few of them, and always shade available! 20 minute walk to nearest beaches. Close to famous golf clubs. Internet access. About Gordon

I am English, living with my family in Cambridge UK. For a time I lived in my villa in Portugal full time, and really enjoyed my time there. When my work brought me back to the UK, my kids did not want me to sell the villa, they wanted to be able to return for holidays, and so it is then that I now rent it part of the time. I must stress this was not set up as an investment, but my home, you will therefore find fittings and equipment of much better quality than is normal.

Why Gordon chose Loule region

Vilamoura to my mind is the finest location in the Algarve, better that Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago, as those resorts are "manufactured" Villa compounds, no locals live there. In Vilamoura, all the roadside are lush with manicured gardens, but it is not a gated compound, it is a place of locals and plenty of Brits, and others from all over Europe. It has great facilities, and the marina is second to none, with hundreds of expensive boats to look at, plus lots of places to eat, and sports bars for keeping up with football, rugby, golf etc.

Please note we normally operate a Saturday changeover at school holiday dates.

Also not an investment property as this is a private home so equipment furniture and fittings are high quality and well maintained.

We also provide monitored security including break in, fire and CO2 sensors which not only set off alarm but brings our security guards to the door in minutes.

We also have a child safe electric cover for the pool, this is designed to support a child. we can't guarantee this, thankfully it has never been "tested"

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: We have our own young children, so there is all equipment for baby like cot and high chair, plus a nice selection of baby and toddler toys. The pool is not safe to leave children unattended, it has a deep end and is great for diving into. BUT parents MUST be vigilant at all times with young children. The property is gated and garden enclosed, so is safe for children. We have automatic LED colour change lighting all around the property that is always on at night. Parking for two cars, and more parking outside. Outside: Pool is circa 6 x 12 meters (2m at deep end). Can be heated on request. BBQ area seating for 8 (join 2 tables). Lovely garden with stunning night lighting, including pool underwater lighting. Plenty of sun beds available from games room store. Table tennis in games room, plus footbal table outside. Utility Room: Wash machine + dryer, and lovely open air round drying room. Ironing board + iron. Full maid service can be provided. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen is included at no extra cost. Pop in maid service can be included for extra cost you pay maid directly. Other: Games room by pool with table tennis, shower and lavatory. We have now abandoned the separate charge for swimming pool heating in favour of guests paying for the electric they use which seems to be fair.

Wonderful family holiday

We booked Vila Rafaela to celebrate a birthday.our party consisted of six adults and one seventeen month old having his first holiday in the sun.the owners were very helpful prior to our arrival,assuring us that everything we need was already at the Vila.Odett met us on arrival,and explained everything we needed to know about the beautiful home.The Vila has a wonderful position in Vilamoura,peaceful in its surroundings,but close enough to easily walk to the marina or the supermarket,or the Old Town.Both the Vila and the pool were clean and well maintained,and I would recommend it to anyone who asked.we had a wonderful time and would like vet to return

Great stay, excellent location.

Booked Vila Raefela for September. House was great, lots of space. Kids loved the pool, is literally a five minute walk to shops and bars and no more than a further 5 minutes to the marina etc. Great place to relax and Gordon will kindly send you details of taxi drivers etc who can arrange uplift and day trips, considerably cheaper than you could get yourself. In our case, the difference between 90 Euros and 50.

All in all a great holiday.

Property was lovely, great location

Overall we had a lovely holiday, the villa was lovely in a great location, pool amazing and great facilities. However there were a couple of things

We were not met on arrival which was fine we met the housekeeper later on the day there was a car left on the drive by previous guests which was mot moved. As we had two hire cars this stopped both of us using the drive so we had to park 1 car outisde the villa gates not a massive deal but just incovenient with young children.

I raised a question about the oven on arrival as the handles were not attached properly so spun round without you knowing what temperature the oven was on at which made cooking food and timings quite difficult i did follow up my initial question with the house keeper via text and Gordon through the owners direct website but did not hear back from either party regarding getting it fixed etc. Which was dissapointing as Gordon had been great at contact and really helpful before this.

The 3 bathrooms 1 is in in the games room for the pool which is ideal to use whilst you are down at the pool but not attached to a bedroom or in the main house section. The other is downstairs with 2 bedrooms and the final is upstairs on the top floor adjoining the master bedroom. My partner and I were in the other bedroom on the top floor so had to knock and disturb the other couple to access this bathroom to have a shower/use the toilet. Just a bit awkward.

So overall feedback would be positive just a couple of things that could have been easily sorted. Maybe seperating the master bedroom and ensuite with a door instead of a curtain to enable equal access to the bathroom for both couples staying on the top floor would be a thought.

Owner's Response: Dear Susan, Thank you for taking the time to review, it is very helpful. I am pleased you found the vila to be "a great location, amazing pool, great facilities. I have looked into the points you made and can answer as follows:- The car left on our drive was certainly inconvenient, it had broken down. A new battery was fitted and the car moved around five hours after we knew about it. We have, as you found have two more parking spaces at the front of the vila, parking for 4 cars all together. The oven had a damaged handle on one of the controls. This was inspected the same day as you raised the concern. Odett and William attended the property - you were out at the time and after inspecting the oven a new part was ordered. This arrived and was fitted the following Saturday. Seemingly it took a week to arrive. You did not hear back from Odett as she just came straight over to inspect. I did speak to Odett who told me she was dealing with this. My wife had just had very serious surgery and I was most of the time at the hospital at that time. Bathrooms - as you point out there are 1 bathroom or shower room per two bedrooms, plus the shower room and WC down at poolside. There is also a additional WC in the main building. The curtain is not ideal but we have a problem in that the room is circular, and it is difficult to get a curved door. I am now asking my builder to see if he can make one. Thank you for pointing this out, if we can get the curved door built it will be better. I am glad you enjoyed your stay, and we hope to see you again. Regards Gordon

Wonderful - the best vila in the region for sure

This is the best place we have stayed by far! Great fixtures and fittings, lovely power showers, beautiful garden and the pool is outstanding, with electric pool cover to keep heat in and make safe for children. Always places for sun and others for shade. Odet the housekeeper was very helpful and greeted us on arrival. The gardens and pool are well looked after by the garden team. Location location Location - well with great views for miles around, the only vila we realise that had views, others looked at walls of other properties, we could see right across to Alberfeira about 20 miles distant. But it is only 15 minutes casual walk to the Marina and the beaches. The Supermarkets are even closer.

We wil be back another time, and cannot fault this brilliant gem of a vila.

THE Villa for Vilamoura!

We were there for the quiet season which was nice as not so crowded though at this time a little cooler. But there was a heated pool in the villa which was clean and actually warm so we were in as soon as we got there! The children really loved it and it was large enough to actually get a little exercise if you wanted. The electronic cover was push button and made it fun to open up and close the pool.

Nice balconies at the back overlooking the area on the first floor; you can have a nice drink in the evening and watch the sun go down; even better on the rood from where you can see for miles around. Plenty of room and really all the amenities in the villa that you could wish for; I am trying to find something bad to say but in fact it is hard to think of anything that amounted to much.

One of the best things is that although the villa is quite spacious, solid and well maintained, it is actually walking distance to the Marina, about 20 mins so if you want you can go for a drink or a meal in town or at the waterside and gently stroll back later on in the evening. At the Marina the restaurants are a little more on the expensive side so I would look up online for the best ones / best value ones. Generally I found the standard of good was good if not better than the average you find in the UK as the Portuguese seem to take more of a pride in their food. Lots of chicken piri piri if you like that, but plenty of other stuff too. The tomato salad is just so tasty you could eat it as a meal in its own right. Fairly easy however to get about the local area if you are in a car; if you want it is only a few hours into Spain - we went for a short break across into Seville!

All in all, thoroughly recommendable.

You'll like it!

Absolutely excellent villa in great condition. Villa is ideally located in Vilamoura, easy walking distance into the marina area for restaurants and other activities. Perfect for a family holiday - whatever the ages of your group. We all had a great time.

Travel:

Faro Airport is 25 minutes away and about 30 euros by taxi. You can hire cars from airport, or we can arrange your pick up by taxi who knows our villa. We can also arrange car hire for you at good rates.

Distances:

Drive 30 mins to Faro, great shopping and beautiful architecture. See how many storks you can spot! Great mountain circular drive, all day, Loule, then round mountains to Tavira (lunch) back home via Faro.

Drive West to Monsique for mountain and spring water.

Drive West to Portimao, Lagos for historic towns.

Drive East to Spain and Seville (2 hours max) spend the whole day in the Winter Palace, it is staggeringly beautiful. Perhaps stay overnight for some Flamenco!

Further Details:

A map is on the kitchen wall with many good restaurants indicated, especially recommended is the local dish Porco Preto, fish is excellent everywhere, but not on Sundays or Mondays as fishermen not working. I am developing a separate document of recommended places to visit.

Changeover Day:
Normally Changeover day is Saturday, but this can be varied at non peak season times. You must vacate by 11am on the day of departure. You can arrive after 12.00 on the arrival day.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds. On certain peak school holiday weeks the rate for a particular peak week might be a bit more, we can tell you this when you enquire
No extra charges for pool heating, or air-con, as we charge for electric used, so the meter is read at the start and at the end of your stay, electric cost is accounted for and deducted from retention deposit at the prevailing electric charge we pay to the supplier.
Long stays can be negotiated.
