About the Owner

We originally purchased Church House Barn as a derelict shell in 2005. We spent the next 3 years converting it, trying to retain as much of the original building as possible. Parts of the barn date from 17th century and it is built on the ramparts of the settlement of Richards Castle in the grounds of the old Church House. Having stayed in several holiday cottages ourselves, we knew what we wanted -somewhere cosy and comfortable with all the necessary equipment and furnishings to make it feel like a real home - not simply a rental property. We hope you like it.

Such a wonderful place to stay!

We had a lovely week here and can't fault the property nor the friendly and very helpful owners. The barn is so cosy. We stayed in February and it was always such a surprise to walk out to a freezing cold morning when we had been so warm inside! The beds are very comfortable, wet room shower powerful and always hot, the kitchen had everything we needed and lounge made all the more cosy by a wonderful log burner. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and as a lover of landscapes and woodland I was spoilt for choice in the list of places to admire. The view from Titterstone Clee Hill was breathtaking! The boys loved visiting Ludlow castle and the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and enjoyed spotting all the Tudor houses.

We have stayed in many holiday cottages and there's always something that stops us from wanting to go back but that is not the case this time: we really hope to return next year. Thank you Chris and Liz for providing such a lovely holiday home.

Beautiful barn in a beautiful location. Everything you could wish for and immaculate. We loved the log burner. No need to go out in the evening! Wonderful welcome pack and more besides. We only stayed 2 days but found the barn to be in a great location to visit Ludlow, Shrewsbury, Much Wenlock and Church Stretton. Hope to return with more family members next year and to stay longer.

The location is part of the Barn's charm. Its quietly located and yet has easy access to Ludlow, The Welsh Marches and the Wye Valley.

Activity and Interests


2 hours driving time to the Welsh coast.


Birmingham Airport one and a half hour drive, use of a car essential.


Ludlow - 2 miles.

Further Details:

There is a good selection of Local Pubs and Restaurants offering a wide range of food from Bar Snacks through to Michelin Star Cuisine. For those guests wanting to cater for themselves, Ludlow Food Centre (3 miles) was recently voted the UK's top Food Hall/Farm Shop for the second year running. Ludlow Market in The Square offers a good range of local produce and is open 5 days a week. There are 3 local butchers and a Fishmonger in Ludlow.

Notes on prices:
Please see web site calendar for up to date availability. Minimum 2 nights available from £85- £100 per night. Christmas, New Year and Easter at £625 per week or short stay at £100 per night - minimum 2 nights. Rental periods and arrival/departure dates can be flexible, please call us to discuss your stay.

We require a booking deposit of £100 to secure your booking, with the balance paid one month before arrival. We strongly advise you to arrange cancellation insurance. Should you wish to cancel your booking at any time we will return 100% of the amount you have already paid if we are able to re-let your booked dates.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
