Guestbook comments from the owner

'Perfect! A beautiful, grand building yet warm and welcoming. Luxurious bedding, fluffy towels and the best equipped kitchen we've ever experienced. The estate is breathtaking and my kids loved the beach! Thank you for a wonderful stay, we can't wait to come back!' The Goodleys, Surrey.

'The Rousdon estate is hidden away from everything, a charming place with the grandeur of a period movie set, and Middlemist cottage matches that atmosphere by being beautifully and thoughtfully presented, welcoming, cosy, glamorous and generally everything you could wish for on a birthday weekend. The beach and surroundings are breathtaking and idyllic, and we all had a truly magical weekend. All in all we will definitely be coming back next year!!' Clare R

'More spacious than it looks and more peaceful than I expected. We played on the lawn, in the tree-house and with the board-games, we ate in oyster bars and medieval pubs, we explored all the way down to the ladder to the beach and all the way up

A Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed in cottages on the Rousdon estate before, we thought we knew what to expect - how wrong we were! This is a stunning tardis of a house, much bigger than we expected, beautifully decorated & furnished & exceptionally-well kitted out, particularly the kitchen. And the tree house in the garden was an added, unexpected treat! We would highly recommend staying here!

A very special find

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful property, excellent facilities in a lovely setting.

What was so good about this property is that everything you could possible need is provided. The owners have put a lot of thought into this. The house was very clean & the furnishings done to a high standard that makes a stay away from home a treat rather than a chore!

We were a mixed party of 3 ladies with our 6 children ranging from 16months to 11 years & they all enjoyed the house, gardens & grounds.

Would highly recommend.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

Location

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The estate has exclusive access to a private beach (Charton Bay) which is via a steep, cliff top path (weather permitting) which may not be suitable for the infirm or very young. Public beaches can be found in the neighbouring towns of Lyme Regis and Seaton both within 3 miles of the property.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Exeter. Nearest train station is Axminster which is approx 7 miles away/15 min car journey.

Distances:

Lyme Regis and Seaton are both approx 3 miles away. Exeter is approx 30 miles. The area is full of wonderful fishing villages and small towns all within easy reach.

Further Details:

Rousdon can be found sitting on the borders of Devon and Dorset and although quiet and private is close to many popular attractions and quaint villages and towns.

Being part of the Jurassic Coast (and a World Heritage Site) there are many opportunities to go fossil-hunting at Lyme Regis (which is also home to Dinosaurland) and Charmouth.

Axminster is about a 15 minute drive away, home to the River Cottage Canteen and shop, and also offers a sports complex with a swimming pool and other facilities.

It is an area to explore on foot along the South West Coast pathway. Go fishing in Beer; see the forge in Branscombe; travel the tram at Seaton; visit Jacob's Ladder beach at Sidmouth; grab a cream tea or pub lunch almost anywhere!
