Farmhouse in Cabariot, Nr. Rochefort, Poitou-Charentes, France - Situated In Beautiful Charente Countryside But 15 Min Drive To The Beaches

The farmhouse is over 400 years old with oak beams, tiled floors and large open wood fireplaces but has been updated to include electric radiators and a modern kitchen plus new .......a modern power shower bathroom and new seperate WC room.The landscaped garden is beautiful with over 50 types of tree, flowers and bushes, with a large fishpond, narrow river and a Private 5.5 metre wide circular pool. A short walk will take you into the village of Cabariot where you can find a bar, restaurant, food shop, post office and bakery. The town of Rochefort is 8km away with superb outdoor markets 3 times a week, fascinating Naval museums and elegant Cafes and restaurants serving freshly caught,local seafood. 90% of France's oysters are caught in this area. The sandy beaches are a 15 minute drive from the home, and excellent Golf courses can be found in Saintes/ Niort. Just to the south you can visit Royan by the sea or sample the wonderful Bordeaux's in St Emillion or a tour of Martell/Hennessy in Cognac. Cycles are provided and there are boat trips nearby.

Hi. We bought a wonderful French Farmhouse over 26 years ago and have spent a lot of time effort and money on making it into a typical French Charentaise Farmhouse set in a beautiful quiet part of rural France.

We have now bought a wonderful villa with pool on the west coast of Florida to add to our collection and are hoping that visitors can enjoy both homes, each individually different and set in superb locations. Please see Ref 8051212

Why Graham Haycock chose Charente-Maritime

We wanted somewhere in rural France, far enough south so that the weather is great, but not to far to drive or fly. The Charente region was our first choice...a mixture of wonderful French vineyards to visit and Bordeaux wines to taste with superb sandy accessible beaches and of course fresh seafood.

What makes this farmhouse unique

If you want total peace and quiet and seclusion away from the 'rat race' then this home allows you to sit by the pool or sit on the patio with a glass of wine and read a book as it is so quiet. You wont be interrupted.

If you want to visit wonderful beaches nearby and/or play golf/visit vineyards then equally this home allows you to drive a short distance or cycle, and enjoy the uncongested country roads.

Large sandy beaches are a 15 min drive away, south of La Rochelle, including Chatelailon Plage, Fouras and Royan.

3 wonderful islands to visit - Isle D'Oleron, Isle De Re and Isle D'Aix all within 30 mins drive.

Travel:

Nearest airport is at La Rochelle (45 min flight from UK) and then a 20 min drive to the Farmhouse. Nearest ferry port is St Malo with a 4 hour drive to the Farmhouse. Alternatively the Channel Tunnel will take you 7 hours to drive via the motorways. Hiring a car, if you fly, is recommended.

Cabariot village 1km. Rochefort town 8km. La Rochelle town and tourist centre 20km. Cognac 40km. St Emillion 80km.

Plenty of activities for children including cycling, walking, horse riding, boat trips on the River Charente, picnics and mini electric boats on a nearby lake. New b/room & kitchen 2014. Brand new bamboo Gazebo erected ( 2013 ) seats 8 with large table, heaters, lights, electric sockets and cushions. Ideal for a picnic al fresco. Outdoor jacuzzi installed June 2014. Utility Room: 6 bikes for all ages. Pool lilo's & play equipment + badminton set. Electronic full size pinball machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided and the Farmhouse is thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival. Other: Very large dining room with French refectory table. Substantial open, wood burning fireplace and original French stone clad walls/oak beams. Phone and WiFi are available. Large patio table, chairs and soft recliner

Wonderful relaxing break

We spent a very enjoyable 10 days in this lovely old farmhouse in rural France. The house is extremely well kitted out with plenty of towels for both pool, jacuzzi and indoors; it has a very well appointed kitchen; a comfortable spacious lounge and a lovely dining room.

The garden is secluded, great for children, with a pool, jacuzzi on the patio, and a fabulous gazebo with lights, heaters (although we didn't need them), and even a power point and wifi!

We spent a lot of time relaxing in the garden which was great.

I'd thoroughly recommend a holiday at la Folie.

Very pleasant stay!

The farmhouse is in a lovely, quiet location and is well placed for exploring the area. The property fits the description given - we particularly enjoyed using the Jacuzzi and bamboo gazebo. Generally well maintained and very good customer service from the owner (quick response to emails and happy to give further information). Would recommend this property to anyone (providing they have a car) and we would consider returning in the future. We loved La Rochelle and had a particularly great meal at Andres seafood restaurant. Rochefort, Saintes and Saint Martin De Re (donkeys in culottes) are well worth a visit.

Lovely stay at Cabriot farmhouse

We had a great holiday. The house is full of character with loads of space and a lovely garden. The weather was perfect for sightseeing but a little cool for the pool. Apparently it had been in the 40s a few weeks before .I am glad I missed that. Our teenagers loved the hot tub and we all made use of the bikes.

It is a very pretty area with big landscapes and skies due the flatness of the region. It is a pleasure to drive in the area as it is so quiet , though it is likely to get a bit busier in August. . The older villages have this buttery coloured stone ( quarried locally) to their buildings which is very attractive. We particularly liked Saint Savinien and the abbey at Trizay, though there were so many places to visit, we only scratched the surface.

We drove a little further to the Cote Sauvage as the boys love the big waves. The beaches here are lovely. All in all, we had a lovely relaxed week .

Quiet, peaceful and characterful!

We enjoyed 10 days at La Folie at the beginning of August 2015. The farmhouse enjoys a secluded location with a large, well equipped private garden where we particularly enjoyed lazy days sunbathing, dipping in the pool to cool off, eating, drinking and warming up in the jacuzzi when the evenings were a little more chilly. The tiki bar with lighting and heaters was a big hit in the evenings for enjoying a drink and playing cards.The local boulangerie (which we cycled to!) was very friendly and Tornay Charente is only 10 minutes drive away with a massive Super U. The nearest beaches are less than a 20minute drive away, although we drove to the Cote Savage a few times to find the surf which is about an hours drive. The Thursday market at Rochefort is well worth a visit, with fantastic local produce and seafood. The farmhouse is well equipped, and obviously a much loved second family home which reflects the owner's personal taste, definitely not a bland generic holiday house! We became very fond of the donkey next door who we christened Didier! Graham was helpful and friendly to deal with.

A Charming French Family Holiday Farmhouse

We stayed at the farmhouse for 10 days from 23 August 2015. We were a group of 2 adults and 4 children aged from 17 to 9. The property was as described on the website. All the arrangements with Graham were very easy and he was very willing to answer any questions that we had. He also called just before we departed to make sure that the property was set up as we wanted it.

On arrival the property was clean and there was a small welcome pack of provisions. There are two large bedrooms upstairs, which were set up with two beds in each for us and a double bedroom downstairs with doors opening up to the garden. The bathroom and separate loo are also downstairs.The kitchen is very well appointed with everything you need for self catering. The large garden is private with a pool, gazebo and jacuzzi. There were bicycles in the shed together with a badminton set and other children's toys.

We all really enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse and actually spent more time there than we expected as it was ideal for a mixed group such as ours.

It is a charming property set in beautiful and peaceful countryside with easy access to a village either on foot or bicycle. A short drive away is an excellent supermarket and I would recommend the artisan bakery next to the supermarket for bread & croissants etc. (The village bakery was closed during our stay).

Within 20 minutes drive are excellent coast side locations and beaches.

Delightful French Holiday Property

A thoroughly enjoyable family holiday in this charming French farmhouse. Plenty of space for all of us. Well, equipped, comfortable, clean and well maintained. Excellent guest manual and customer service. A perfect base to explore this beautiful part of France with it's lovely restaurants, local markets and stunning scenery. Highly recommended.
