Bubion, Las Alpujarras, Spain - A Five Minute Walk To The Bars And Restaurants

Sitting on the terrace sharing a bottle of wine is such joy with a prime spot for probably some of the best views in the area, with a vista down the valleys to the Mediterranean and on a clear day, distant Africa. If you want to go walking, mountain biking or horse riding, just step out the door as paths into the hills run across the back of the property. With a shared swimming pool with a shaded terrace and BBQ this is a wonderful holiday location. Note: Pool only guaranteed open in peak summer season. Late July through August then closing during early September. These dates vary by a few days each year depending on the weather that year.

Hi,

We are a family that love the countryside, mountains and the outdoors. Daddy loves to Cycle and Walk in the mountains and Mother and daughter are a little more relaxed and prefer to sit back and admire the views. We both love Spain and especially the Alpujarrras. When we were looking for a base, we regarded ourselves so lucky to find this apartment in such a lovely location, that had just come onto the market.

We come to Bubion whenever we can but find this more challenging now as we are living in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Why Roger Walker chose Sierra Nevada Area

We bought a property on this area after a holiday, following a recommendation from a friend.

We of course love the views and the rustic villages but we also love the ambiance here. The locals are so friendly and so are the fellow visitors that are also here to enjoy the clean air mountains and tranquility.

What makes this apartment unique

We love the fact that we are high up in the mountains but the weather is still generally excellent. Being half way up a mountain range of over 3000m, We can escape even more by going much higher up the mountains or descend down to the lower regions.

We are far enough away from the coastal areas but also plenty close enough for a trip if we fancy a day at the beach.

Peaceful retreat.

Arrived in Bubion for an eight night stay on a warm evening to find the apartment all ready for us both. The place is perfect for a couple to use as a base to go and enjoy the Alpujarras with walking routes leading straight from the back of the apartment. If you don't want to cook after a long day out on the mountains, there are places to eat in Bubion within a short walk from the apartment, but far enough away so as not to disturb you whilst you sit out on the sunny terrace if you decide to relax instead.

If you do bring a car here, which is advisable, the car park at the rear of the property has enough spaces, but watch out for the steep bend to it !

All in all a great place to stay for couples on a budget, recommended.

Just lovely

Bubion is clearly a tourist destination, but it doesn't matter. There are other walkers and tourists around, but they disappear in this village and vast space of the mountains. This is an unfussy apartment, with beautiful views, and one of my favourite views from a swimming pool. The apartment serves as a great base to get out from.

I have not been on a walking holiday before, being a city dweller and a beach bum, but this has shaken me out of myself. Stunning landscapes, beautiful walks, and all unspoilt due to the national park protections.

Straight forward communication with the owner made getting in and out easy.

Great location, poor arrangements

The apartment is small but contains everything needed, and to be honest you're unlikely to want to do any cooking during your stay in Bubion when there are so many great places to eat and the cost is so low.

Why I'm only giving 2 stars (and probably justified in giving 1) is that we drove to Bubion from Sevilla, and on arrival tried to call the number supplied by the owner only to discover he had neglected to supply a digit in the middle of the number. After trying various options for an hour we eventually walked to the nearest bar and asked did they know the woman we were meant to call. Fortunately they did. So 5 stars to the Teide and Antonio!

When we eventually contacted someone, 2 hours after arrival, she informed us the owner had in turn neglected to tell her anyone was staying in the apartment that week, so although fairly clean it had not really been prepared.

Having a great view and a great location does not excuse such poor customer service.

We are likely to return to Bubion again, but never to this apartment.

Fantastic Scenery

A nice apartment in a stunning village with breath taking views. The property was clean and everything was well maintained. The pool is about 20 metres away from the apartment in a secluded gated area which makes it a great place to chill out. The location is ideal for outdoor activities such as cycling and walking. The village had a nice pub and corner shop, there is also a supermarket a few miles down the valley in the small town of Orgiva.

Owner's Response: We too just love spending time there for the get away from it all type experience and indulging in outdoor activities in the mountains. Can't wait til we get to go back again! I see that you have re-booked for this year. Just to let you know, for your next holiday, there is a mini market in the village and a bigger one in the near by village of Pitres which would have all you need. If you didn't need to go, that would save you the trip to Orgiva. I'm so please you enjoyed your stay and thanks for the review and repeat booking.

Coast/Beach:

The Mediterranean beaches are are about an hour's scenic drive away. Some fantastic Mediterranean seaside villages and towns for a day visit. An hours twisty drive down and down the mountain.

Bubion is a prime location for mountain activities including hiking, horse riding and road and mountian biking. It is on the road up the highest pass in Europe running under the peak of the Mulhacen, the highest mountain in mainland Spain. If you are into biking this is a have to do climb. Forget L'Alpe d'Huez or Mont Ventoux Col du Galibier this is the one that is too high for the pro cyclists at altitude 3400 metres! This pass on the south side turns into a dirt track so is ideal for mountain bikes and is accessible by motor vehicle to around 2000m.Though It is a tarmac road all the way to the top from Granada.

Bubion is the middle of three picturesque villages in the Poquiera Gorge. Each around a km way up or down via road or footpath

The mountainous Alpujarra region is located near the city of Granada which is well worth a visit with the Cathedral and the Alhambra. The Alpujarras are on the southerly slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the highest mountain on mainland Spain (The Mulhacen). The area is a natural reserve and a region rich, both, geographically and historically and so a really fascinating area to visit and explore.

Bubion is a high village at 1350m above sea level. Perfect to base yourself for hikes, mountain biking horse trekking. Also available locally are painting, pottery, dancing (flamenco) classes.

The village has a bank and an ATM machine, a mini-market. Plenty of places to go out and eat with many bars and restaurants in Bubion and the adjacent villages. bakeries, various craft and souvenir shops. There are many interesting local diversions, including hiking, horse-riding, mountain-biking, historic churches/villages, birdwatching, sitting in cafes watching the world go by. and other outdoor activities located in one of the most spectacular valleys. The E4/GR7 passes by the apartment.

It is always a magic moment as you travel up the twisting mountain road and round the corner into the Poquiera gorge, to see Bubion (the middle of three villages) seemingly hanging from the mountain high above. Explore the valleys and mountains from there, there are more than enough footpaths and trails to keep the most enthusiastic walkers entertained.
