Beautiful, idyllic typically French cottage

  • 5 of 5

A great little cottage, close enough to local amenities, but rural enough to get the true French experience. The house itself is stocked with everything you could ever need, including adaptors and hairdryer and was beautifully clean and tidy on arrival. We really appreciated the bottle of wine, milk and baguette after a very long drive! The pool was big enough and was cleaned regularly by Steve who was also very helpful to our inquisitive questions. There is ample shade around the pool which was much appreciated on very hot days. There were plenty of sun beds and seating for outside eating.

The area is outstanding - very rural and quiet, full of Bastides, churches and gorges. We went canoeing down the Auveryne River starting off from St Antonin. It was 80 Euros for five of us and we were given plenty of time to paddle the 10km. A really great day out!! We fell in love with St.Antonin and its cobbled streets - it was very busy with tourists and I would suggest booking restaurants well in advance. We also loved Najac, Cordes Sur-Ciel, the castle at Penne and Bruniquel. We made the trip to Albi, which is about 50km from the house. The cathedral and Toulouse Lautrec Museum were great. There is a supermarche in St Antonin, ( Carrefour) that though small was very adequate. We also went to L'Eclerc in Villefranche which was great for a big shop at the beginning of the holiday.

Mike and Caralyn were very organised with paperwork and even sent an email to say that a film had been made in the locality and we should watch it. They were also very prompt at replying to emails.

All in all we had a fabulous holiday, the weather was on the whole very hot and sunny with a few welcome thunderstorms in between. We would definitely recommend this cottage and area to others.

Owner's Response: We are delighted that our guests had such a wonderful stay at our house. It is indeed a beautiful area with lots to do and see and that is the reason why we purchased the house as we love to go over there to stay from time to time. It gives us much pleasure that our guests can also enjoy our house and the magic of the surrounding area.

Rustic, rural and really rather romantic!

  • 4 of 5

Nestled in deepest French countryside about 20 minutes drive from the delightful town of St Antonin-Noble-Val, this property provided us with a delightful, if slightly rustic, base for our holidays. Lots of original stonework within, with steep stairs leading to three bedrooms furnished in French country style with very comfy beds meant that we slept deeply and peacefully. The weather was hot for the whole of the 2 weeks we spent here and the very private pool was great, with sunchairs, cushions and towels provided. Mimi (property manager) and Steve (pool maintenance) provided us with first class friendly service throughout and booking via the owners was very friendly and straightforward. The slight downside is the fact that the toilet and bathroom are both downstairs, but on the positive side, the wifi connection was great, as was the TV reception - great for a 12 year old whose idea of chilling is putting a film on! The closest village of Verfeil sur Seye has a bakery serving fresh croissants 6 mornings a week (including Sundays!) and a very friendly bar/restaurant in the centre. The Aveyron Gorge is stunning and we very much enjoyed exploring the stunning small towns in the area such as Cordes sur Ciel and Najac. Kayaking along the river from St Antonin is a must do and the Sunday market in St Antonin is simply stunning and very popular with visitors and locals alike. Small dogs are allowed at the property too and our wire haired dachshund Monty loved it too - we would all definitely go back!

A week in Verfeil and Ginals

  • 4 of 5

Our overall experience was very positive. The weather was not brilliant so I am pleased I took a warm raincoat. We took our dogs and Grandson with us. There are good regular dog walks down to the River Seye around the fields across the road. The cafe at Lac de Parisot is excellent, as I believe is the Verfeil restaurant La Seye et Vous but sadly we were about to run out of petrol so we couldn't get the family there! Yes I would recommend it to friends.

Tolles Haus in schöner Lage

  • 5 of 5

Der Betreuer vor Ort ist ausgesprochen freundlich und hilfsbereit (thank you Steve for helping us with the table-tennis-balls and your recommendations where to go and where better not to). Für pubertierende Jugendliche war das WLAN natürlich unerlässlich. Wir würden wieder kommen.

Location

From the Owner

We bought a house in France as we love the French culture, countryside and lifestyle. We would love to settle in our house in France in a few years' time. In the meantime, we are happy to visit and stay there as often as we can - between guests! It is in a very rural, peaceful area of south-west France and is our 'escape' when we need it! Nearby St Antonin-Noble-Val is one of our favourite places and we very much enjoy visiting and eating out in one of the many excellent restaurants there.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Toulouse at 110 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Verfeil at 2 Kilometres Car: necessary

Travel:

Rodez Airport 1 hour from property. Toulouse Airport 1 hour 15 mins from property. Car hire/car recommended.

Distances:

Verfeil-sur-Seye (patisserie, restaurant) half a mile. St Antonin-Noble-Val (The Gorge, restaurants, Sunday market, sightseeing) 10 miles. Villefranche-de-Rouergue (restaurants, market, shops, sightseeing) 20 miles. Albi (restaurants, market, shops, sightseeing - largest brick-built cathedral in the world, Toulouse-Lautrec museum).

Further Details:

The area around the house boasts spectacular scenery. The Gorge around St Antonin is stunning and provides opportunities for caneoing/kayaking along the River Aveyron, abseiling, paragliding, mountain-climbing, walking and cycling! The wooded valleys and endless sunflower fields are a haven for wildlife and plant life throughout the year. The Gorge and area in the surrounding countryside provide spectacular views. The autumnal colours of the trees are not to be missed.

Facilities

From the Owner

The house is situated in a beautiful area, but is close to amenities in Verfeil-sur-Seye. We have the convenience of being rural, but still not far from civilisation! The garden is very secluded and we love to sit/sunbathe around the pool in total privacy.
