Le Bourg is an old stone cottage on three floors surrounded by a walled garden in the small pretty rural village of St Meloir Des Bois. The house has a living room and separate kitchen/ dining room. There are five bedrooms, three doubles, a children's room for 3/4 and a single room and two bathrooms. The garden is large, level and mainly laid to lawn with a seating area and barbecue. The village has a bar and creperie and a full range of shops including a supermarket are available in the larger village of Plelan Le Petit, a mile and a half away. Tennis courts and a nine hole golf course are all within a couple of miles from the house. It is situated in the centre of a small village, eight miles west of Dinan in North Eastern Brittany and twenty minutes from the coast.

About Clare David

We live in Haslemere, Surrey . We bought Le Bourg in 1989, having been attracted by its village centre setting, large walled garden and proximity to places like Dinan and sandy beaches, both of which are less than 20 minutes' drive away and have spent many happy family holidays there with our four children, now aged from 26 to 19.

Over the past 28 years we have significantly upgraded the house, converting the second floor, installing a fitted kitchen and, most recently, the downstairs bath and shower room.

In the time we have owned the property, St. Meloir des Bois has become one of the most attractive villages in the area, thanks largely to the efforts of the Mayor, Michel Desbois, who is the son-in-law of the couple who look after our keys. Our house is opposite the excellent and popular bar/creperie.

Clare David purchased this house in 1989

Lovely comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the cottage for a week in May and, after arriving later than we expected, were helped by the local Creperie owner who contacted the woman in the village who kept the key. All of the locals were friendly and we had 2 fantastic meals at the Creperie that week. The cottage was well equipped and roomy. Good location for touring and the vet in nearby Jugon-Les-Lacs was very helpful with dealing with the doggies who had a fantastic time. It's also worth a visit to the Charity shop in Jugon which is a real 'Alladins Cave'. We would definitely book this cottage again, (if they will have us!)

Very comfortable and quite convenient.

  • 4 of 5

Mr and Mme Labbe came to say hello and introduced us to their grand-daughter. The area is quiet, but near to larger villages/towns. We went out every day to the coast, Dinan, St Malo et al. Wine is cheap and quite good. We were very lucky with the weather, it was very warm. The Gite was very accommodating for ten of us, plenty of room.

The house is located in a very attractive village

  • 4 of 5

The house retains many original features, has a homely feel, and was ideal for our extended family party of nine, including two teenagers. We found the location ideal for making trips to the glorious Emerald coast, including St Cast, St Jacut, Dinard and St Malo, as well as Dinan and smaller towns and villages of interest. We appreciated the weekly market and musical entertainment in the village, and loved the excellent local Creperie which is so convenient! The garden is a very generous size, not very private, but with a more sheltered corner. Plenty of space for games, sitting outside and barbecues. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would recommend the property to others....

A fantastic and memorable summer enjoyed at Le Bourg

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Bourg - a brilliantly located large cottage within 30 minutes drive to so many beaches. The house is large, clean and suitably furnished - perfect for a big family. We came as a family of 6 with four kids aged from 2-12. Plenty of space around the garden. Good access to supermarket 2 miles away. We will definitely let this be our Brittany base in the future and have recommended to friends already.

Two weeks at Le Borg

  • 5 of 5

A delightful property in a quintessentially Bretagne village. The property was very accommodating, clean and well presented. The garden is a good size which allowed plenty of room for the children to play. The Creperie across the road is a must, the family who run this establishment are very welcoming. You will have to use your French! which is a good thing.

Good communication from the owner regarding any aspect of the stay.

Lots to do near by and only 20 min from the sea.

Highly recommended.

Superb holiday cottage in beautiful Breton village

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at this superb holiday cottage in a beautiful village in Brittany. The house was centrally located in the village just across the road from a creperie which serves delicious crepes. There was plenty to do locally such as horse riding, golf, crazy golf, cycling, boating and water sports. I also enjoyed running in the stunning countryside which surrounds the village. The house was ideally located to explore nearby historic towns and cities including Dinan, St Malo, Dinard, Cancale and Rennes. We also enjoyed visiting the beaches, dining in the many restaurants and chatting to the friendly local people we met. The holiday cottage was charming with much character and a really cosy feel. The large garden is pretty and lends itself to playing outdoor games. We will definitely be returning to this gem.
