About the property

Holiday Home in Lysos, Nr. Polis, Cyprus - Quiet Village Location

A two bedroom traditional stone house in the centre of the peaceful mountain village of Lysos on the edge of the forest. At the front a stone arch leads to a covered bbq area with traditional ovens & seating for 6. To the rear there is a private ( 8 x 4 m) pool with Roman steps. The spacious paved pool area has sun loungers, a parasol, table & chairs. Lysos with its spectacular views of mountains, sea and forest has its own coffee shops serving food and drinks and a family run hotel serving traditional dishes. At approx 500 metres above sea level the village has a perfect climate in the hot summer months. A short drive takes you to the small quaint town of Polis with its picturesque square, restaurants, bars and beach. Further beaches and restaurants can be found at the pretty harbour of Latchi, gateway to the unspoilt Akamas Peninsula. A perfect location for a restful break away from the hustle & bustle of touristy Paphos.

We felt the house could do with some TLC

  • 3 of 5

On arrival after carrying case's up the steep drive we passed through the arch way into the front courtyard, which was covered in squashed figs that looked like they had been there for ages ,a dirty looking wooden table and a bbq that had cigarette ends in , not a very good impression. Entering the house .which we knew was old from description on line., we found a broken gas burner, the light in the lounge we couldn't get to switch on, although the fridge worked Okay it didn't inspire confidence in its appearance we thought the whole kitchen looked like it needed lots of TLC. The shower room was to us the best room except it was missing a plug in the wash basin. However a holiday is what you make it and apart from endless barking dogs and lorries going up and down the road we did enjoy it. We also thought air con in the bedrooms would be a good idea it was extremely hot at night

A week in the sun

  • 5 of 5

A quiet and restful week in the sun read some books and generally chill after a difficult year, was what we wanted and exactly what we got. Plenty of room for the two of us, apart for one rain storm we had great weather and the garden and pool were a great place to enjoy some tranquillity, however the pool was a tad chilly and took some getting used to in May. No AC was no problem in May but the mosquito net over the bed was useful even if we did get tangled from time to time. We did not use the bars in town but did go to the Steni Tavern several times as Dee my partner loved it there and Koulla and Kalimani were excellent hosts despite limited English. The food we excellent value for money and we kept getting extra dishes at no cost and I swear the small local salad we ordered got larger and larger every time we went there. Polis was a little quiet and the sea not as clear as it might have been due to the storm. There is an excellent view from the roof and being up in the mountains is a little cooler than down at sea level. We had an excellent time and had the holiday we had envisioned.

Comfortable Village Accomodation

  • 4 of 5

This is a comfortable stone house in a nicely situated quiet hill top village with easy access to the Polis & Latchi beaches and with scenic drives in all directions. It offered us all that we required for a pleasant and relaxing quiet stay in Cyprus, giving opportunity for days on relatively quiet beaches or a drive into Pathos forest without encountering any other car for several kms.

Even arriving in the early hours of the morning in darkness, owner instructions to the property driving from Pathos airport were clear and easy to follow and access guidance was good. There was a choice of refreshment and basic food items supplied in the house that gave opportunity to enjoy a nice breakfast on the patio first day before heading out to a supermarket.

The house is well equipped with a good size pool and patio area which benefits from the sun throughout the day and in to the early evening.

Evenings and nights are cooler and the many ceiling fans appeared to offer enough air movement to keep rooms at a comfortable temperature for sleeping comfortably. Shower and toilet facilities were good, and plenty of towels for both house and beach.

Lysos is a pleasant place for an evening stroll around its streets with eating and drinking venues if you do not want the drive to nearby villages or the 10km drive down to the sea or the town center of Polis, which both benefit from many restaurants and tavernas.

The villages of Peristerona and Steni are within a 10 minute drive down the hill and both offer food and drink in pleasant restaurants. Steni has a great little rural museum that is free of charge (donation) offering a vision of the past to traditional trades and crafts in the local area, it really is worth a visit and was devoid of any other visitors when we went in.

I think we did spot a bus go through the village, but to enjoy all the great scenery, roads and trails in the surrounding areas and beyond a car or 4x4 is essential.

All in all Mark and Tracey's property served our needs for the type of holiday we were seeking, if you are looking for a quiet retreat away from the mainstream coastal resorts but still within a scenic drive then this might be the property for you?

Perfect Base

  • 4 of 5

We came up to Lysos to explore the region and be near to Polis and Latchi. The villa was the perfect base, not all singing all dancing if that is what you're looking for but more than adequate for our needs. It's very peaceful and one of our favourite things to do was lie on the roof at night watching the glorious sunset and later the (shooting) stars A very well equipped villa with a fab pool which the boys loved. We spent days away exploring, then back to Lysos to jump in the pool. The villagers are lovely, welcoming people and we enjoyed frapes and beers with Mike as well as a slouvaki at the local tavern. Lysos is perfectly situated to explore this region. We want to explore the whole of Cyprus while we are living here bit if we have time, we would definitely return to Tracey's villa.
