The Old Laundry (Sleeps 2, 1 Bedroom)

Sleeping 2 people, this unusual single storey cottage makes a perfect anniversary or honeymoon retreat. The modern facilities and stylish decor combine to make an exceedingly comfortable, relaxing and peaceful experience.

There is an open plan living/dining room with gas 'wood burner' stove. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven and gas hob, as well as a dishwasher and fridge/freezer. There is also a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

The 6ft half tester bed backs onto a spacious bathroom, with twin wash basins and a separate walk in shower room. Outside there is a covered veranda with garden furniture, as well as ample parking.

The Underley Estate is set within the beautiful Lune Valley on the edge of The Lake District and The Yorkshire Dales. Our cottages are individually furnished to the highest standard, combining modern living with the tranquility of the rolling countryside, grass fields and mature trees. Sleeping from 2 to 4 people, these four properties are ideally situated for a weekend away with the family to explore an area steeped in history and rich in natural beauty.

We have stayed in many cottages but The Old Laundry has to the best yet. The design, decor and furnishings are first class and the setting within the beautiful grounds just superb. We will definitely use Vale of Lune Cottages again and would recommend them to others.

We stayed at Tosca Cottage in February, the peaceful location is wonderful. The cottage is spacious and well furnished. We were very pleased with the 6ft bed in the main bedroom and the fact that both bedrooms are en-suite. The cottage is cosy and warm ideal for a Winter break. We will definitely return.

My partner and I have just come back from staying at The Old Laundry. We were both very impressed with the overall finish of the property and are already planning our next visit. Its peaceful on the Estate, has lovely views and the town is a 20min walk away so perfect for visiting the town and the pub! We could have easily stayed longer...

Notes on accommodation: All our cottages welcome children of all ages, and we can provide cots and high chairs on request. All our properties are non smoking, with the exception of The Old Laundry. Dogs are welcome in all of our properties, and there is an extra charge of £20 per dog. The price quoted for each property is all inclusive, including electric, central heating, fuel for the fires, gas etc. Outside: All our properties feature enclosed gardens and off road parking. There is garden furniture in each property, including tables, chairs and sun loungers.

Not been maintained and very noisy

Having stayed at the Old Laundry before and recommended the estate to numerous friends that have now stayed we were very much looking forward to going, not least of all as we haven't had a holiday in 4 years and my husband works in a very noisy bodyshop so we picked here for it's peace and quiet.

We arrived on the Friday ready to put our feet up to find that the settee had definitely seen better days, no filling in the bottom cushions so without removing the back two you slipped onto the floor ( I see in the visitor book people have been complaining about this since September 2015) It was a very hot evening so we thought we'd open the middle door next to the settee but it could not be opened. We called the number on the laminated sheet and sent a text but received no reply over the four day stay. Due to it being so warm we thought we'd sit outside only to find that only one of the three outside light were working so you're sat in virtual darkness. Not a good start but the worst was yet to come.

The following morning we were woken by what can only be described as a compressor type noise coming from the barn next door, which went on all the time we got ready, had breakfast outside to the point where my husband said he may as well have stayed at home and sat in the bodyshop listening to his own compressor. ( We have stayed on many working farms, the noise is fine, cows, tractors, quads etc) NOT compressor type noises !! So we went out for the day sick of listening, thinking thank god tomorrow is Sunday a bit of peace, only to find the same thing the following morning ( I have numerous - around 10 video's to show the noise !) So we went out again, even though really we'd have like to have just sat out with a book !! Monday ( Bank holiday Monday ) was the same so we packed and left.

Once home I emailed to say I'd like some money back, we wish we'd never paid a large amount of money to listen to the noise we could at home for free, yet 9 days on no reply - not even an acknowledgement other than the automatic and I emailed again 2 days ago, still nothing. I have friends who've booked for later this year and one that I recommended it to that's booked for 2018 and I'm calling them all to say don't go.

How sad that something so beautiful is now so awful. Should I not get a refund I'm going to take this further.

Road - M6 J36 10-15 minutes drive. Rail - Oxenholme Station (Main West Coast Line) 15 minutes drive, Clapham Station (East Coast Line) 15 minutes drive. Airport - Manchester and Liverpool both approximately an hour and a quarter drive.


Kirkby Lonsdale is 2-3 miles away, and offers a number of very good pubs and restaurants, as well as a superb supermarket. Kendal is only 20 minutes drive, and a little further afield are Lancaster, Morecambe, Windemere, Bowness and Ambleside - between half an hour and 40 minutes drive.
