Apartment in La Cala de Mijas, Costa del Sol - Great Hilltop Location. Quiet with Views of Sea and Mountains.

This is a 1 bedroom apartment with a large patio offering panoramic views of the sea, Cala Nova Golf Course and the Sierra Nevada mountains to the east. It is air-conditioned with a marble bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. The apartment overlooks a large swimming pool and there is a thatched viewing platform in the pool area as well as a gym and sauna. The apartment complex is situated on a hilltop, ensuring excellent, uninterrupted views. The wide, sandy beach at La Cala is less than 10 minutes drive down the hill, as are a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs. La Cala is situated about halfway between Malaga and Marbella on the Costa del Sol. Cala Nova Golf Course is about 1 minutes drive away. About 5 minutes drive away is the town of Riviera, which has an English shop as well as a driving range and tennis courts. Automatic gates and a designated, secure parking space.

About the Owner

My wife and I fell in love with the Mijas Costa about 7 years ago while on holiday and decided to buy a property there. Since then we have been back many times. We have explored the area and have found it brilliant for us to get away from the normal tourist crushes and still be close to amenities that our 2 kids (now aged 7 and 10) really enjoy. Seaworld in Benalmedena has become our kids favourite, as is seeing the yachts in the marina at Marbella (20 mins) away. Easter and Christmas are really special! I am originally from Cape Town and Andrea is from Zimbabwe - we both love the fact that on a clear day we can see our Africa from our balcony. We both love hiking and swimming and enjoy going out in the cool of early evening for tapas and/or a local meal out. All can be done in abundance.

The Apartment is so lovely, open, light and airy. The views are magnificent and the feeling of peace is amazing. I loved having dinner overlooking the pool with the full moon shining down on the sea.

The apartment is very well equipped. We loved the balcony and the view, after a day out it was our favourite spot to sit out with a glass of wine. Underground parking is a real plus as it means the car is nice and cool before venturing out. The apartment is very well situated for exploring the surrounding area and we took full advantage with trips to Mijas, Malaga, Marbella, Puerto Banus and Benalmadena.

Nice apartment with great views, just a pity the sun set was behind the apartment.

We spent 6 nights here, it's a great, well equipped apartment.

The setting was stunning, beautiful sea views looking down onto La Cala de Mijas and the Calanova Golf Course.

Our only disappointment was the evening sun which disappeared behind the apartments way to early.

Stunning views

Enjoyed the area. La Cala and the surrounding area were very nice. Not over commercialised. Very Spanish feel. Lovely view from the apartment. Enjoyed breakfast on the terrace as the sun was coming up. The downside is that a car is essential. There is a 3 mile drive down a very steep winding well made road. The apartment has a well equipped kitchen and secure underground parking. We thought that it was suitable for a small family, but perhaps not for four adults.

Great place

That was our first visit to Mijas. We stayed 2 weeks in September 2014. Apartment is located on the hill and presents great views day and night. Apartment is clean and well equipped specially kitchen site. Rooms and beds are fairly big and I think 4 people can sleep comfortable. Big plus for aircon working in seconds and chilling whole apartment. Swimming pool is good size and its deep too but young children will have plenty of space on the other end. There is also underground garage which is superb in very hot days, cars stay in the shadow all the time. Its great place for quiet holiday if you want just "charge your batteries" or great place for someone looking to explore surroundings. If you play golf you have one big field just in front of the building. Chris sent me good instructions for finding and getting into the apartment but my car sat nav was playing crazy so I used my mobile and google maps to find it without problem. Overall great place, great stay, quiet and it feels like normal family house. I would recommend this place to anyone without age restrictions but remember car is a must. This is the third time my wife and I have visited this part of Spain and we stayed in the area of La Cala two years ago so knew our way around. From start to finish our dealings with Chris, the owner, were uncomplicated and friendly. He gave us precise directions to the apartment and provided all the information we needed to get settled in. We were blown away by the views from the living room and bedroom, mind you it is a fair drive up to the apartment so a car is a must have. Although we don`t really cook on holiday the kitchen has just about everything you could possibly need to make full meals, very modern kitchen and well laid out. All the rooms are bright and in some ways the photos don`t do it justice. The underground parking meant we were not having to get into a baking hot car, we did a lot of sightseeing while there and stayed one night at Granada. We could have had the pool to ourselves at times, it`s nice and quiet at this time of year and not many apartments occupied. There is a very useful storage room provided to leave luggage etc. during your stay and lots of local shops to buy essentials. We ate at La Cala quite a lot and love the little stalls along the beachfront selling local craft items. If you want a good quality base for sightseeing or just relaxing this is the perfect place to stay, we hope to go back some time. Cordoba, Nerja, Ronda, Granada and Mijas are all wonderful to visit. Also there are good roads to the bigger resorts if you want to go out in the evenings, plenty of shopping malls too which my wife delights in! All in all we were sorry to leave, we would recommend to anyone and for young children La Cala is a lovely little seaside town.

The climate of the area is Mediterranean and reminds us of Cape Town with it's vegetation and general feel. The views from the apartment are stunning and there are so many different things to do within easy access of the Apartment. You can head off into the Sierra Nevada Mountains, then back to the beach for a swim and something to eat at a beach side restaurant. It is very easy to navigate around - especially between the apartment and the airport and to the nearest beaches. The true gem for us was the tiny mountain village of Mijas with its authentic, active bull fighting ring, it's quaint buildings all whitewashed and bright - and of course its spectacular views over the whole of the Andalucian coast. Our nearest town is La Cala providing a Spanish feel with an expat influence.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Malaga at 30 Kilometres Nearest Beach : La Cala de Mijas at 2 Kilometres Car: necessary


The nearest beaches are at La Cala - 10 minutes by car. There is a long swathe of beach with safe swimming and many sea front restaurants with traditional cooking methods. The whole drive from the airport to the apartment is along the coastline with many beaches to stop off at along the way. Torremolinos about 25 minutes away being a rat board walked beach front with plenty of shops available for some retail therapy!


The most convenient airport is Malaga which is 35 minutes away from the apartment along the coast hugging A-7 (formerly N7). It is possible to fly into Gibraltar, about 45 minutes drive in the opposite direction, although we have never done this, so could not advise you on that route. We recommend hiring a car from Malaga airport. To make the most out of the apartment and the surrounding region it is essential to have a car at your disposal.


5 minutes drive away is Riviera which has several shops and restaurants. 10 minutes drive away is La Cala which although "touristy" does have plenty of traditional Spanish traits to it - particularly the town hall and side streets as well as the old Martello tower at the beach.

20 minutes drive away is the Teleferico (Cableway) from the coastal area of Benalmedena to the mountain top overlooking the bay. 25 minutes away is the Zoo at Fuengirola or 25 minutes the other way is Marbella.

Further Details:

La Cala (10 mins and by the beach) has a Supermacado as well as a more English oriented SuperSol. There are 2 Bureau de Changes there as well as local, Chinese and Indian restaurants. It is a great place for kids with a model of a galleon as a play area right on the beachfront. Riviera is just around the hillside from the apartment and has the nearest shops but is generally slightly more expensive, with the exception being the supermarket at Miraflores which does have UK goods at much more reasonable prices than the other shops an supermarkets on the Costa. Riviera also has several restaurants including a traditional Irish pub.

If you want to go further afield, there is Marbella about 20 mins away and the fantastic marina area of Puerto Banus - filled with millionaires' yachts. There is also Gibraltar about 45 minutes away and the ferry to Ceuta, which you can purchase tickets to in La Cala or along the motorway stops between the airport and the apartment.

2-3 hours away you can head to Ronda and see the great aqueduct and the Museum of Bizarre Antiquities - Museo Lara. About the same distance away is Granada where you can visit The Alhambra - a spectacular Moorish fort dating back to the 11th century. It is truly breathtaking and earns its reputation of being the "most visited tourist attraction in Spain". Book early in your stay as they do only admit a certain number of visitors into Alhambra if you want to see the inside of the building as well. They will refuse you entry into the Palace if you are late!

Bookings are taken for either weekly or long term rental. There are special rates for longer term rentals. Deposit required with balance paid 4 weeks before arrival. Long term rentals are not taken in the busy season between June & September. Saturday to Saturday booking are preferable but this can be flexible, please e-mail to check.

Changeover Day:
Saturday to Saturday is preferred but can be flexible so contact us to find out if we can accommodate your plans. Departure time is 10am with arrival time being 2pm - although this too can be flexible depending on bookings so please inquire when booking.

Notes on prices:
If booking for 2 weeks or more there is a £50 reduction to the weekly rate for the second (and any subsequent) weeks.

You feel that you are getting away from the crush of the cities and towns when you climb up into the hills above the Cala Nova golf course to get to the development in which our apartment is situated. The underground car parking area is safe and secure and provides easy access to the apartment via a lift. The views are truly striking, of the pool and at least a 200 degree vista of the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the left with sea views stretching all around to the far right. If you want to BBQ - there is a special thatched viewing platform in the pool area, beneath which you can find a gym and sauna which is there for you to use whenever you should choose. The apartment is air-conditioned with all electrical appliances you would use at home - dishwasher, washing machine, Freeview Sat TV.

  • Notes on accommodation: The apartment is fully air-conditioned, and has large double glazed sliding doors in both the bedroom and the lounge allowing free flow out onto a 25 square meter patio. The floors of the hallway, dining room, lounge and bedroom are all wood, with the bathroom and kitchen having tiled floors. The apartment has no stairs and has high, sturdy railings on the veranda making it safe for children to stay. There is a sofa bed in the lounge making it possible for families to stay comfortably and all seating and crockery etc are provided for 4 people. Also available is a cot and cot bedding as well as a baby chair for young infants to sit and eat in. The apartment has been fully kitted out to a very high standard and makes a great place to escape to. Please note that there is No Smoking in the apartment. Outside: The apartment overlooks a communal garden and swimming pool. The swimming pool is for the 18 apartments in the complex and is approximately 20 meters long and 6 meters wide. The depth is 2 meters in the deep end. There are great views of the sea and the Sierra Nevada Mountains from the pool - which at the moment has no provision to be heated. There is a raised thatch viewing area where barbecues can be had with stunning sea views and views over the Cala Nova Golf Course. There is also gym equipment and a sauna to be found in the pool complex. It is possible to exercise outdoors whilst admiring the views! The apartment has a large patio area with metal table and chairs for dining al fresco - sunset dinners and sunrise breakfasts are spectacular. Also provided are sun loungers for use on the patio for those lazy afternoons sipping drinks and relaxing. Utility Room: Lockable storage room down the hall from apartment for empty luggage etc during stay. Ironing Board and clothes airer as well as cleaning equipment and 2 luxury sun loungers (for patio use only). Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are included but not beach towels. Property is cleaned after every stay and linen and towels will only be changed after rental period - unless specifically requested which will then be subject to an additional charge. Other: Large patio with access from bedroom and lounge. Also BBQ/ viewing area next to large pool as well as a few items of gym equipment and sauna in annex by the pool.
