About Luigi

My wife Gail and I had idyllic holidays here as our children grew up, canoeing and fishing on the River Dordogne, spending lazy days on the beaches at Arcachon and basking in the warm summer evenings as tasty beef steaks grilled on the barbecue. We get a real thrill helping our guests get the best from their stay here in our corner of La Belle France. Whether it be arranging a visit to Chateau de la Riviere for a tour and tasting of their luscious wines, or organising a gentle paddle down the River Dordogne in a canoe. When our guests are happy we are happy.

Luigi purchased this house in 1980

Why Luigi chose Entre Deux Mers

We love being in amongst the vineyards and close to Saint Emilion but also where they make our local wine which isn't well known but very gluggable indeed.

We think the markets are just great for food shopping and love all the medieval towns which are lovely to explore.

If we want a day at the coast we can easily make it in a day and when we want the buzz of the city we can be in cosmopolitan Bordeaux within an hour.

What makes this house unique

Olive Tree Gite occupies the upper part of a big stone barn which we converted 5 years ago. We like the open plan living area and kitchen and most of all the private deck which is perfect for outside meals and barbecues and feels a bit like a treehouse tucked up and under the branches of an oak tree.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our stay in Olive Tree Gite. It is in a perfect location for exploring the region and really felt like home away from home for us. We hope to return some time in the future and would not hesitate to recomend you to our friends.

Thank you for being such good hosts and making such a lovely environment.

Charming and well-equipped gite

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for one week in July 2017. Luigi and Gail are excellent hosts who live on the site. They provided a great welcome pack of some food and drink. The gite is decorated, furnished and equipped to a very good standard. The location is a little off the beaten track and the nearest town is about 20 minutes drive away but there are plenty of nice places within easy reach (Bordeaux, Arcachon, St Emillion, Bergerac). It's really a great place for a relaxing holiday by the pool and eating on the balcony.

A lovely place.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for two weeks in July at Chez Olive Tree - one week in each of the two properties (Gite and Cottage) . It is a lovely place. Both places are connected to the grounds of the owners' house. They are both beautifully decorated and have all the facilities you could need. The cottage was particularly lovely given the sizeable garden and space that is available outside and it would be our choice. The swimming pool was welcome - the new one could perhaps be considered by some to be a little on the small side for some couples who do not know each other.

The suggestions and advice on things to do and areas of interest outlined on the website guide were hugely helpful to us. Thank you !

We decided not hire a car and to do everything by bicycle. We had a choice of bikes (excellently supplied by Luigi) which was wonderful . We cycled everywhere, Juillac for a visit to Chateau Font Vidal, Pessac for canoeing on the river, Pujols to eat at Chez Sylvie and La Poudette, Castillon la Bataille for trains to St Emilion and for supermarket etc... a treat in every way and this enhanced our stay very much. It worked very well without a car, the only difficulty being unavailability of taxis (and subsequent cost) in Castillon on arrival which one should perhaps be mindful of in terms of arrangements in advance.

A very nice place indeed. Thank you/ Merci bien.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments. Many guests this year have commented on how delighted they are with the new swimming pool; its convenient position and beautiful landscaping. If requested in advance we can reserve a taxi for guests arriving at Castillon La Bataille railway station

Perfect home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful, relaxing break at Olive Tree Gite.

Luigi and Gail really are the most welcoming hosts, who think of everything to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. They provided fresh bread, milk, butter and a selection of snacks to ensure that we had something to eat when we first arrived, as well as for breakfast. They made some great suggestions for places to visit and things to do, and went out of their way to furnish us with further information and help us with our arrangements.

The gite is a lovely space, which was clean and comfortable, with everything we needed to feel as though we were at home (with the added benefits of a wonderful pool and beautiful views).

We made the most of the bikes which Luigi and Gail allow their guests to make use of to explore many of the nearby villages and chateaus.

We would not hesitate to recommend the gite to others, and certainly hope to stay again in the future.

Our own piece of paradise again.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Gail and Luigi's gite and it definitely won't be our last. They are both so welcoming and there if you need anything but they would never impose. The gite is immaculate and has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Gail thinks of everything including fresh milk, butter and bread as part of an extensive welcome pack in the gite.

We particularly enjoy the views and tranquillity at the pool. The gardens are fabulous with the scent of lavender and magnolia that are all carefully looked after by Gail. It's lovely to spend a day relaxing by the pool or a few hours after a day of sightseeing. You know that you will never have to share it with more than the two guests in the other gite.

The gite is a perfect location to visit Bergerac and St Emillion. There are also bikes to use to cycle along the Dordogne or to nearby villages for lunch.

A hidden gem in a marvellous area!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely place.... A beautifully furnished and equipped gite plus a sparkling pool to cool off in, both nestling in a secluded garden which the owners tend with pride! Gail and Luigi were very helpful and welcoming and we had a great week blending relaxation with discovery in this vine-rich corner of France. Visit wine chateaux, take a tour of local towns, eat out at the many good restaurants in the surrounding area - enjoy!

Little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed before at the olive tree cottage and this time we were in the gite. It was just as charming and loveley. The view from the balcony is gorgeous. This is perfect for anyone wanting a relaxing and peaceful holiday but with the option of visiting gorgeous local villages and sampling the great food.
