Styled more on a boutique hotel than a traditional French gite - A fantastic use of stone, bleached wood and light contemporary furnishings along with a roof terrace perfect for an alfresco breakfast or wine and cheese as you watch the sun go down makes Le Batiment a very special place to stay. The house is converted from a traditional stone barn and stands in the small, peaceful and very pretty French village of Puymoreau. The village is surrounded by the rolling countryside of the Charente Maritime region, bordered by vibrant sunflower fields. All the old features of exposed stone walls and original beams have been carefully preserved but the finish is light, airy and contemporary to give a comfortable living space with all modern comforts. We believe that time away is precious and we want our guests to have the best experience possible

"In a beautiful (and our favourite) part of France Le Batiment was exactly what we expected it be and more. It provided us with a totally relaxing 2 weeks. It is spacious and airy and has been designed to a high standard. The owners - Lesley and Alan went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We were able to start living the 'French Life' from the moment we arrived and put the key in the door. Nearby St Jean has lovely restaurants - You are close to the tranquil Charente River and it's stunning riverside towns. It is perfect for cyclists of all abilities - as we had fun finding out! Super!"

Great little hideaway.

Lesley and her husband are just the best hosts. Booked us into a few restaurants on arrival for the first few nights. Above and beyond! Lovely barn conversion, very comfortable all modern conveniences can't recommend them or the area highly enough! Wonderful.

We think this is the perfect area in France to own a house. It has more sunshine than any other region of France after Provence but is less crowded and more unspoilt than the South Coast. We are set amongst farmland and sunflower fields but just 30 minutes from the coast.

Coast/Beach:

There are many lovely beaches in the area. The nearest is about 35 minutes drive away.

The lovely Ile de Re is about 55 minutes drive, great for a day out.

There are also several spots on the river & lake that are great for swimming, water- skiing, canoeing etc

Travel:

Well placed within easy reach of several airports served by scheduled & low cost airlines. La Rochelle is the nearest (approx 50 minutes drive away). Poitiers (1 hour drive)

Bordeaux, Nantes, Tours, Limoges & Angouleme are also easily accessible.

The nearest ferry port is St Malo (under 4 hours drive), Caen (less than 5 hours) or the Channel Tunnel (about 7 hours drive).

Distances:

This is a great area for things to do & places to see. For more information see our website. The market town of St Jean D'Angely is less than 10 minutes drive away & has a great twice weekly market plus large supermarkets. The nearby village of Landes has a friendly boulangerie & epicerie.

  • Notes on accommodation: Free WIFI. We are Eco-friendly with a solar hot water system. A travel cot and high chair are available free of charge but need to be booked in advance. Telephone can be provided on request (normal call charges apply). Outside: The upstairs roof terrace is a great place for outdoor dining and perfect for sunbathing in the afternoon. There is a table, parasol, chairs for 4 people. There is a second terrace on the ground floor with bistro table and chairs. Off road parking available. Utility Room: The utility room is located off the mezzanine and has a washing machine ,iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels (not beach towels) and bedlinen are included in the rental price.
