Paradise

A 750-year old beautifully appointed Tuscan villa about 15 minutes east of the town of Cortona – with charming hosts Margaret and Maurizio who ensure you feel like a part of their family. Magnificent views of the Tuscan hills, absolute peace and quiet – does it get any better?

Into the Cortona square to meet some locals and observe the passeggiata with our hosts. Cooking wood fired pizzas together, talking Brexit, EU and politics. This is why we came to Tuscany.

We used the villa as a base to visit towns like Spello, Gubbio, Bagni San Filippo and many other places in between. There are a few small restaurants that are a short driving distance, great for dinner or a beer overlooking the spectacular valley. We self-catered for breakfast in the well-appointed kitchen, with supermarkets available in Camucia, just down the hill from Cortona. The Camucia market is also very well stocked with all kinds of local fresh produce.

Having no TV meant that we could all do lots of reading, but fast WiFi is available for your use.

I cannot recommend this rental highly enough. Thanks Margaret and Maurizo for all your guidance and advice.

wspaniały dom, widok i cudowni właściciele

  • 5 of 5

Truly a Tuscan Paradise - I keep coming back

  • 5 of 5

I had never heard of this place before, and what a fantastic surprise to find the most wonderful spot on earth. This is the reason for us spending two summers in a row at Cortona Cashmere Farm. This place is so perfectly restored with a sense for the original buildings and surroundings and yet fulfilling the needs for guests. And your hosts; Margaret, Mauricio and their wonderful boys make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive at the property.

The farm is located 12 km outside of Cortona, which is also a fantastic old town to visit. Going even further up the mountains, you will find Cortona Cashmere Farm. It is basically in the middle of nowhere – in the positive sense – stars have never been brighter – the view has never been more astonishing. We rented the biggest house La Querie, and had much more room than we expected. The place was very clean and Margaret and her family did everything to make us feel welcome and the service was excellent. Every little detail had been thought through – so there were even boxes of toys for the little ones. We travelled with kids aged 7, 6 and 3 and we have never had a vacation before with so much relaxation, kids playing on their own feeding the goats, chasing the chicken, exploring the greenhouse, playing in the sandbox, the swing, the trampoline or in the wooden cottage in the trees. The pool was of course a great hit too, and surrounded by a fence. We spent most of the time in front of our house overlooking the mountains, and we also used the barbeque area which is built like an amphitheatre.

Margaret has lots of suggestions of what to see in the area. We went to Asissi, Cortona ans Perugia, and on a rainy day we went to the old Roman baths nearby.

Having spent two summers in Cortona. I can highly recommend this place and I would give 6 stars if I could!

Carpe diem

  • 5 of 5

Location

From the Owner

Welcome to our home. Having become tired of the city and smog filled air of Milan we began searching for a better way of life for our children and ourselves 9 years ago. We stumbled on this property and instantly fell in love with it! The property probably dates back to the 1100s with the newest part being built in the early 1800s. The house would originally have been built by the farm workers who were under the power of the land owner who lived next door (evident by the tower on our neighbours house). We have been told that our home housed 30 people in the early 1920s as well as a barn under the house for the animals. The land was let completely go after the second world war when many farms in Italy were abandoned for the lure of easy work in the cities.
