Dating back to the mid 1880s, The Chapel is the southern half of the former Congregational Chapel which stands proudly at the head of the small village of Bainbridge, overlooking the picturesque village green. Spanning three floors, the property ensures the perfect holiday accommodation for larger families or couples sharing, with sleeping and bathing facilities on both the ground and second floor. The house offers everything you could wish for to make your stay enjoyable. Relax in front of the wood-burner with a book, enjoy the stunning views over the green, take a stroll to nearby award-winning Yorebrdge House for dinner, or pull on your walking boots and explore the breathtaking scenery right on your doorstep. The chapel is ideally situated for exploring the area by foot or by car. There are many great walks from the door both level and lofty, with waterfalls at Aysgarth, Hardraw and Askrigg close by. For a less strenuous day out, visit castles at Middleham or Castle Bolton.

About the Owner

We live in South Manchester with our teenage twin children and blind cat!. We run a recruitment company and I (Sara) am also studying for a Masters full-time. Despite a busy work and social life we all love to visit our second home for weekends of relaxation and plenty of fresh air. Since buying our property in the Dales we have begun to enjoy the outdoors and walking in particular.

Wonderful New Year break

My family have just returned from a wonderful New Year break in the beautiful village of Bainbridge in Wensleydale. We stayed in the Chapel in the dales which was a real home from home. We are a family of 5 , including teenagers ( always a challenge when it comes to customer satisfaction!!) and as we left we all agreed that the chapel had exceeded our expectations. The house is surprisingly spacious - we even had a spare room to house the god parents when they joined us for new year. On arrival you really appreciate the time that the owners have taken to make this accommodation feel like a home rather than just another holiday home. It has lots of personal touches and is beyond doubt the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in. The utility room is a god send for walkers and the full size freezer a bonus especially when you have to stock up to feed a hungry family. After long country walks it was a pleasure to come back to the Chapel , light the candles and the log burner and sit and relax. The cottage has SKY + TV , lots of board games and for some that all important internet !! It is a warm , comfortable and welcoming house in a beautiful setting. This house wraps you in its arms and says ' relax' . Thank you to the owners who were easily contactable in the weeks leading up to our stay and gave us some great information about a firework display on New Year's Eve that we could have easily missed. We will definitely be back!!

Pleasant Stay

We arrived at the property and found it clean and homely. There was a welcome pack of special biscuits which was nice. The property is on 3 floors as described. The stairs leading from the first to second floor are directly from the lounge. This is possibly a drawback for keeping the noise down in respect of the 2 upstairs bedrooms, but I don't think it was an issue with our party.

The cottage is very well equipped and easy to manage, loads of hot water at the touch of a button, and the bath fills very quickly :)

It is in a perfect location in Upper Wensleydale directly onto the huge village green in Bainbridge. As a converted chapel I suspect the floor levels have been altered, the windows are too high to look out of but they let in loads of light and it is not really a problem, the stunning views are on the doorstep.

The beds and bedding are very comfortable. The stairs are quite steep.

Noise is not noticeable from, outside only the birds. A lovely place to stay for a relaxing break.

We began hunting for a second home in the Lake District initially and quite by chance stumbled upon Wensleydale. We fell in love with Bainbridge because of the beautiful village green and surrounding hills. There are some fantastic walks and waterfalls in the immediate area plus a great range of pubs and restaurants. Children will love the castles nearby and attractions such as The Forbidden Corner. Adults will love the real ales, cosy log fires and glorious countryside. There really is something for everyone here.

Short breaks can be booked in advance in the low/mid season (Sept through to end March and except for Christmas and New Year week and February half term week). The house is incredibly peaceful (We sleep like logs whenever we visit!) yet is conveniently situated for visiting towns such as Middleham, Masham, Leyburn, Hawes and Richmond. It's great to be able to leave the car on the drive and discover such fabulous walks right on your doorstep.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: We now accept one well-behaved dog. The Chapel is a strictly non-smoking property. The house is suitable for children, however, the rooms are relatively small and would therefore be best suited to no more than 2 small children at a time. Also, please be aware of the several flights of stairs involved. Outside: The Chapel does not have a garden, however there is a wooden bench outside on which to enjoy the peace and tranquility. There is also plenty of space on the village green to run/play and a children's play area with slide, swings and a fab new zip wire across the road some 150m away. Parking available for one car on driveway and further parking on the village street. Utility Room: With washing machine and freezer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bedding included (except for travel-cot). All beds made up for guests arrival. Cleaned weekly. Other: Travel-cot and high chair available. Please note: the travel cot only fits into the downstairs double bedroom.
