But that's exactly what you will get here at Porto Antigo II, a boutique resort complex bursting with character and about as close to the warm sea as you can get.

This resort is ideal for both families and couples, its location in the very heart of Santa Maria is second-to-none with all bars, restaurants and shops no more than a minutes walk away. Our apartment is fitted with a fully-equipped kitchen, spacious lounge and two bedrooms. Enjoy watching the sun set from our patio and ensure the most memorable of holidays.

Porto Antigo II is quite simply the finest development on the island of Sal. Situated right on the beach in the heart of Santa Maria, it is already the most sought after destination for the discerning traveller. The complex is kept private and secure by staff who are always in attendance. It is only a 20 minute taxi ride to and from the airport (10-15 euros) near Espargos. It has a large freshwater swimming pool which is cleaned daily, new sun loungers and magnificent gardens. Our large two bedroom apartment is situated on the ground floor with stunning views of Santa Maria beach and the new pier. You can see and hear the waves rolling in from the patios off the sitting room and main bedroom.

My name is Stephen and I bought this apartment nearly 10 years ago when we first visited the islands. I live in UK with my wife and two children. We come to Santa Maria every year.

Location. Location. Location. On the beach and in the centre of town but still quiet and peaceful. From our bedroom patio it is a 35 metre walk to the white sandy beach. Always quiet around the pool during the day yet still only 100 metres from the town square and its restaurants and bars.

Special interest holidays:

Sal is a water sports paradise for surfers, wind surfers, kite surfers, divers and fishermen. Turtle watching and hatchery visits are available.


Porto Antigo II is situated directly on the Santa Maria beach not far from the new pier. Clean white sand and beautiful clear blue water make it great for long walks.


The airport near Espargos is 15 minutes from Porto Antigo II. It costs about 12 euros by taxi.


A 1 min walk to the town centre with mini-markets, great restaurants and banks. The local bakery is in the next street. There are many cafes and places to sit with drinks. Its also a 2 minute walk along the beach to the pier which is busy with fishermen.

Nowhere on the island can you be in the centre of the town and be on the beach and still have a quiet private pool and gardens looking out to sea. Its a very small complex of privately owned apartments. Private pool area. 24 hour staff on site.

  • Outside: The large freshwater pool at Porto Antigo II is set in beautiful gardens. There are sun loungers on the surrounding deck area which leads directly on to the beach. The apartment has 2 private patios looking out to the beach, sea and pier as per photographs. You have use of the large swimming pool and sun loungers around the pool. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: There is fresh clean bedlinen on arrival as well as bath towels. These are changed every week.
