About the property

House in Restabal, Lecrin Valley, Granada, Spain - Incredible Views Over the Lecrin Valley

Winding along the road between Restábal and Pinos del Valle, with its picturesque views, you will find the track to Casa Viñas de Vera, a country house nestling in the hillside. The property is surrounded by its own olive and citrus trees with stunning views across the valley. The house has been lovingly rebuilt from an old ruin and still retains some of the original features. That said, the property is light and spacious, with an open plan living area downstairs, a large, spiral staircase leading up to two of the four bedrooms and a huge roof terrace for enjoying a sun-downer or two while taking in those amazing views. The house is comfortably and tastefully furnished and has everything required for a relaxing and enjoyable stay all year round. With plenty of outdoor terraces, sun loungers and large swimming pool you will hardly need to leave the property, however the area is ideal for walkers, cyclists and sightseers. The beaches, Granada and the Alhambra are all within 30 mins.

About Louise

Sandy, my husband, and I split our time between the beautiful Lecrin Valley and our home in south east England. My husband runs his own company in the UK but is lucky enough to be able to work from Spain via the internet for much of the time. I spend my days studying for a degree in modern languages through the OU and the rest of the time I try to keep our garden and our 300 trees in check. We have two grown-up children, one an actor, the other a dancer and they love to join us in the Valley whenever they can. We have made some great friends in the area and have fallen in love with our village and its inhabitants.

Louise purchased this house in 2004

Why Louise chose El Valle

We discovered the Lecrin Valley almost by accident when we went on a fact-finding mission in 2003. We had decided we wanted to live 1/2 way between Granada and the coast as it would give us the best of both worlds - beautiful mountain views, easy access to beaches and the cultural city of Granada, plus there was the bonus of being only 45 minutes from the Sierra Nevada for skiing in the winter.

The valley is off the beaten track and still quite undiscovered. It is the chance to see Spain as it has been for hundreds of years. Some of the locals still set off in the morning on their mules to farm their land and the pace of life is somewhat slower than elsewhere in the country.

The natural beauty and the open, friendly people have won our hearts and keep us coming back for more.

What makes this house unique

We have rebuilt the house from an old ruin and have included everything we feel is necessary for a comfortable and relaxing place to stay.

The house is just 1km from the village so it is peaceful and remote but within easy access of all the local amenities. Restabal is home to Bar Jovi and Meson Despensa, considered by some to be the best restaurant in the valley but if you prefer to eat in there are two good shops in the village. We are incredibly fortunate to have the region's only Thai restaurant, the Thai Elephant, just a short walk down the hill. We can also give details of caterers who will deliver dinner to your door!

The stunning views are central to the appeal of our house and the large pool is fantastic for cooling off in summer.

The house generates its own power, however the system is set up to cope with the normal use of a large family and is therefore often more reliable than the mains!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We just wanted to say what a lovely time we had last week at your villa in Restabal. It was a really wonderful place and the house and gardens with the orange trees made it a real paradise. It was hard for the pictures and desciption to do it justice. Hopefully we will be able to return some time, especially as there are still so many places to visit."

"We have had an absolutely wonderful week here. The weather has been very kind but the house and its setting were simply perfect. The views from the house are breathtaking and the orange and lemon trees are wonderful. We have had some marvellous trips to Granada and up into the mountains from here. An everlasting memory will be the heady scent of the orange and lemon blossom which is absolutely heavenly..."

"We have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here... ...Everything about the house is great and the view from the balcony of the upstairs bedroom is breathtaking..."

"Loved the house and the wonderful pool..."

Notes on accommodation: Our house operates on an off-grid system, using solar panels and a back-up generator. This all functions efficiently without any input from guests and apart from a few considerations should be used as any other, on-grid property. Free, wifi connection Underfloor heating to all rooms for winter months NB. Due to the nature of the property we do not consider it entirely suitable for very small children. This is due to the fact that the land surrounding the house is terraced so there are many changes of level. There are outdoor steps to the roof terrace and to the back door and there is a cast iron, spiral staircase internally. The pool is not fenced. We do not wish to discourage people from coming to enjoy the house and we will be happy to accept bookings from clients with young families but we feel it is our duty to forewarn you. Cots and high chairs can be provided on request. Outside: Large, private swimming pool (10 x 5m) with terracing around it and sun loungers. Lawned area. Extensive roof terrace with table and chairs. Pergola-covered terrace off living room with square table and 8 chairs. Separate terrace with table and 4 chairs. Small, private terrace to downstairs, double room, with table & chairs. Parking for several cars Utility Room: Area upstairs with washing machine; iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels provided. Separate swimming towels provided. Cleaning done at beginning/end of stay. Mid-stay full linen change & bathroom clean on request, payable to agent on arrival.

Peaceful haven

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful property with a fantastic pool area set amidst a lemon and orange grove. We lay by the pool watching an eagle soar above the nearby hills, silhouetted against a clear blue sky. The owners Louise and Sandy were extremely helpful and clearly care about their guests. Hoping to return soon.

Peaceful setting yet close to many places of interest

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing and comfortable week at Sandy and Louise's beautiful home. The house is very well equipped, spacious and tastefully decorated. There are great views from the upper floors which were fabulous to wake up to and the dining terrace and grounds around the pool are beautiful with many shady areas to cool down in. There is plenty to do in the surrounding areas and a visit to the Alhambra Palaces and the white villages of the Alpujarras are a must. We didn't eat out at all (our daughter is vegan which drastically limits our choice of restaurant!) but there were plenty of recommendations in the guest book and I can vouch for a fantastically well equpped kitchen, we especially enjoyed the never ending supply of oranges, lemons and fresh herbs from the garden.

Private, peaceful, perfect

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week at this beautiful property. The charming owners met us nearby and guided us to it. It is at the end of quite a rough track, but most average cars could cope. And the plus side is that, once you arrive, you are in an incredibly peaceful and private place, looking out over an uninhabited mountain view, and in the midst of a beautiful grove of orange and lemon trees, heavy with fruit.

Picking your own fresh citrus fruit to make a breakfast orange juice or to flavour an evening gin and tonic is a very special and memorable experience!

The house is pretty, personal and full of character, and the views are wonderful. Outside, there is an abundance of enticing spots to sit and relax, depending on the weather and the time of day. Indoors, everything is comfortable and well designed.

We were so happy just being there that we did not go out very much, particularly since we had planned to spend the following week on the road. But there are places to eat and to explore nearby. And there is a classy supermarket about 20 to 25 minutes drive away in Durcal. The serrano ham is a highlight, as is the fish counter. We bought some whole "dorada" (sea bream). Only when we got them back to the villa did we realise they really were 'whole' - in a way that Sainsburys in Dulwich had not prepared us for. In other words, not gutted or scaled. YouTube to the rescue, we learned quickly how to do it. And ended up with what was arguably the best supper of our entire holiday.

Thank you to Sandy and Louise for a very happy week. We hope to return one day, and meanwhile we highly recommend your lovely house.
