Don't miss a chance to stay at La Mouissone
If you want to wake up in the morning and step outside your delightful Provencal Villa with its own swimming pool to see a landscape so spectacular that you just have to smile, ‘ La Mouissone’ is your place. This is not a slick , faceless modern villa: it has been modernised but fits into the style of the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte D’Azure. It’s clean, fresh and charming and set high up on the slopes in one of the most stunning locations of the region. It has breath-taking vistas across steep slopes and valleys of olive groves, scattered hamlets and cypress trees, to the coast, with the sea washed across the horizon. I found the hosts charming and very helpful (thank you!) and I was in awe of the now mature, extensive gardens that they have built from scratch and planted up with many unusual plants amongst the Mediterranean planting. At every turn there is something else to see and to explore, another area of garden design to catch your interest, or another stunning view to take in. It’s a holiday that will revitalise you: simply being there will nourish your soul and fill you full of wellbeing, and then there’s the region to explore. Close by and a lively walk away is the ancient quartier of Grasse, full of the romance of a French Medieval town; Cannes and the coast is around 17km away, Antibes and it’s beaches about 27 km away; there are day trips into the surrounding countryside and other medieval villages like St Paul de Vence. Don't miss a chance to stay here

Fabulous property in exceptional grounds
We had a wonderfully restful stay in this fabulous 3 bed cottage. The grounds were incredible and the view absolutely spectacular. The cottage itself was spacious, spotless and well appointed, with 3 good sized bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The weather was on our side and it was glorious to be able to sit by our own pool, even though in May, it was a bit too cold to get in! The kitchen is well equipped, the bathrooms had generous showers, with plenty of hot water, but no baths. Not a problem for us, but always good to know. The beds were comfortable and the sheets smelled wonderfully fresh, as did all the towels. Being May, it wasn’t too hot at night, but the bedrooms do not have air conditioning and in the height of summer, they could get very warm. Margaret our host was incredibly welcoming and showed us around on arrival. There was a bit of a hiccup trying to get in, so a key safe might not be a bad idea, as a back up. The setting of the cottage itself is stunning and within walking distance of Grasse. Grasse we found slightly disappointing, so we spent most of our time eating in at the cottage, soaking up the sun and enjoying the glorious peace and quiet this cottage has to offer. We would definitely go back and I would happily recommend this property!

Lovely property in a stunning location
We had a fantastic week staying at this property in late April. The house is spotlessly clean, with good quality beds, bedding and towels etc. The main attraction of the house is the setting. The gardens are AMAZING, the view down to the Mediterranean is SPECTACULAR and there is the good sized pool and a fantastic tennis court. The hosts, Maggie and Dave were very welcoming and were there if we needed anything. The location is perfect for visiting Cannes, Antibes, Nice whilst being able to get away from the hustle and bustle if you prefer a quieter location like we do. Beautiful villages and hamlets in the mountains are a short drive away and obviously a car is essential. I would highly recommend this property for couples and families who prefer a quite location but with easy access to the busy seaside resorts.

An absolutely wonderful property in the most amazing garden and scenery. Lovely pool and incredible tennis court! The hosts were most welcoming and we were invited on a walk around the grounds which are just superb. The local area has so much to offer to all. We loved it- thank you! We will be back!

About the host

Hosted by Lady Lockett

Host profile image
Maggie Lockett studied Practical Horticulture, Plants and Plantsmanship and advanced Plants and Plantsmanship at the English Garden School (Chelsea Physic Garden), gaining a Diploma with Distinction in each. More recently, she has continued to study, including intensive plant tours to South Africa's Cape, China and Japan, in order to to generate a greater understanding of Mediterranean gardening. She has extensive plant knowledge and has spent the last fifteen years developing her gardens within an olive grove.

Why they chose this property

We were looking for a typically Provencal style of property, where we could express our own ideas and style. We discovered this property of about three hectares, which had half to two thirds cultivated and the rest wild. Later we became avidly interested in gardening and particularly Mediterranean climate plants and techniques; and so found we had made such a lucky choice in our French home.

The grounds are very spacious, allowing plenty of privacy for both a main house and guest villa. It has a feeling of seclusion and yet is not too far from anywhere you'd want to visit. Clients often ask 'why don't you say how peaceful it is on the website?' - It's just difficult to say just how relaxing and peaceful it is!

What makes this property unique

It is always a delight to discover the pleasures of the area outside the high summer season. Spring has gorgeous warm weather - walking, swimming, playing tennis are all very enjoyable, if you can tear yourself away from admiring the gardens and wild flowers!

The autumn is a great surprise with gardens still showing a floral displays up to the end of November. An lovely "Indian summer" allows one to lunch outdoors almost until winter. Many of our guests come in the off peak times to enjoy the hills, or just to relax with the odd game of tennis, and then enjoy dinner by an open fire in the evenings.

The local villages are more charming than ever in spring and autumn, with a more relaxed feeling in the build-up to summer and a peaceful calm as the families go back to work and school.
