Gite in Jugon les Lacs, Cotes D'Armor, Brittany - Lovely Peaceful Location With Very Easy And Quick Access To Larger Towns Like Dinan, Rennes

OFFICIAL "3 Star Gite", our gite has been awarded classe 3 etoiles by the Office de Tourisme de France.(ref no. 02204022-08416-0107) We are officially good!

Pool And Entertainment For Kids And Adults.

Our gite has WiFi internet access and it has a swimming pool, the pool would be for your private use, although occasionally Isabelle, myself and our girls go for a swim but we would of course respect your privacy and priority! The gite can sleep 4 and a small person ! It is situated 15 mins from the historic town of Dinan and just a 2 minute drive from the local village, Jugon Les Lacs. There are all the usual facilities you would expect such as a boulangerie, a boucherie, a Carrefour market which is a general store/off licence, several bars and a creperie, a pizzeria and 2 good restaurants as well as a local tourist office. There are many golf courses within a short "drive" (including a French Open championship course at Val St Andre). There are several good equestrian centres which arrange lessons and treks. Wakeboarding and waterskiing nearby. A nearby karting track has proved a hit with the "big" boys last year. Recently opened is a water skiing lake for beginners and the experienced. Freeview television is available. There is a CD/cassette player provided so please feel free to bring your own music. Board games are available as an alternative to the television! For the comfort of all guests the gite itself is a no smoking area! There is a swimming pool in our enclosed landscaped garden and parents must accept responsibility for their children at all times.

About Sean Bartley

Isabelle my wife is a French/English teacher, she's lovely and has a bubbly nature and often has us all in stitches! Me, I'm a cabinet maker and I specialize in kitchens, new furniture and restoring old furniture (I have a web site advertising my work if you are interested!). Our girls Toni 23 Chloe 21 Holly 15 and Constance 16 are all at university/school. Our outside activities include amateur dramatics, lots of sport "watching", going to the local bars with our friends for a leisurely drink and a chat, bike riding and country walks. We have loads of animals and we feel that this important and offers a great education to our children

There's more but that's enough about us,

read about the property, ask any questions,

reserve the gite or the house and enjoy your holiday here in France

Sean Bartley purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Sean Bartley chose Dinan area

WiFi internet access available and it has a pool..........My family and I moved to Jugon les Lacs in 2001 because we love the area. It is one of the very beautiful villages in Brittany where the locals are friendly and welcoming especially to all visitors. and it has a lake with sailing and fishing! Our gite is perfectly situated for the local village of Jugon and also has easy access to the larger roads leading to the bigger towns and cities. You feel like you're in the country and yet its easy to go and visit other more busy areas for big shopping! Jugon also has all the normal facilities that you are likely to need like a grocery store, post office, doctors, pubs, restaurants, pizza place, bakeries, butchers and banks.

What makes this cottage unique

There are many outdoor experiences to enjoy and see.

Jugon is also very easy to access from the larger towns and cities. Visit this site for more info on Jugon,

The beaches are within half an hour. Isabelle, myself and our children love it here and hope that our gite guests leave here with many happy memories and of course a wish to return! Come and see us soon, you will love it. We treat our guests as we would hope to be treated ourselves, if they enjoy themselves and come back and see us again it proves to me that we're not doing too badly. Contact us for more info. Thanks for considering our gite for your holidays. Best Regards. Isabelle, Sean Toni Chloe Holly and Constance.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'Marvelous. Fantastic. This is our fifth time staying, we'll come again'

'Great for the kids, which is great for the parents as we all know!'

'The boys still say it was the best holiday ever. Arriving at Le Clairet Gite, is like arriving home, the welcome from all of the family was second to none. Fresh flowers on the table, fresh eggs in the fridge. The accommodation was very comfortable with everything you could need, the little touches made this holiday special. Our 3 boys loved feeding the animals and having the use of the family's private swimming pool was a highlight. The family also allow the use of their pool table, football table, trampoline, swings and slide. The boys had so much to do and that is before you go exploring the area'.

Jugon Les Lacs, the local village is so beautiful with a choice of places to eat and drink, and the Lake offers many activities. We are already planning our next visit, back to see our friends at Le Clairet. Sarah and Noel Kanturk Co. Cork

Notes on accommodation: In our opinion the gite is ideal for a family with 2 or 3 children...or a peaceful holiday for 2! telephone if you prefer to discuss any details. 0033 296 31 62 09 Outside: We have a swimming pool in our enclosed garden, it is for the use of our gite guests and my family and parents must accept responsibility for their children at all times. Our large barn (which partly acts as my workshop) has a full sized pool table, table football, table tennis, darts and exercise equipment. We ask that parents also supervise their children in this area as new cloths for pool/snooker tables are expensive to replace! There is also a large trampoline available for supervised children. We also have swings and a slide for our younger guests (under supervision again I'm afraid!). We have a number of animals (well away from the gite). Including many chickens, 2 goats,9 ducks, 4 cats and 2 dogs, oh and rabbits and goldfish. Children staying with us often love collecting the eggs and feeding all the animals. A welcome pack in the fridge on your arrival will include fresh eggs. All the usual outside things that you'd expect are also available including BBQ facilities. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All the towels and linen are provided for use in the gite only, please remember to bring your own swimming/beach towels. We hope you enjoy our gite, it is cleaned before your arrival, wherever possible please leave it as you would hope to find it. Other: As the gite is situated in the country,we naturally have fields all around, there are long country views and you will be able to watch the sunset on those balmy summer evenings. For the early risers, one can see the sun rising from the property as well.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the gite. It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. It is situated perfectly for exploring the area and within easy driving distance for many attractions and beaches.

It was lovely in the evenings watching the sun go down on the patio, enjoying the peace and tranquillity that the gite offers.

Sean and Isobelle were very friendly, welcoming and helpful and always on hand to answer any questions.

We would recommend the gite and would not hesitate on returning again in the future.

Perfect Brittany base for family with young kids

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted with the gite, which was perfect for us and our 5- and 2-year-olds. Sean and Isabelle are very friendly and go to lengths to make you feel welcome -- it's refreshing to have such a well-equipped kitchen in a holiday rental, with plenty of crockery, cutlery and even down to rubbish bags, cling film, dishwasher tablets and charcoal/BBQ eqpt.

The gite itself was clean, comfortable, with nice characterful features. With inside and outside tables, it catered for both sunny hot days and cooler ones, as did the location with plenty to explore for cooler days within easy reach and yet lazy days by the pool totally possible also.

The pool area was perfectly set up, with sun all day and yet with adjacent trees it was easy for the kids to sit in the shade while we sunbathed, with the trampoline and well-stocked shed of toys excellent additions.

Sean and Isabelle's dogs are impeccably behaved, and totally quiet at night. I soon trusted them completely with our girls --even down to one of them lying with my 2-year-old by the pool while I sat nearby in the sun. The property also allowed for our children to walk safely between the pool and house by themselves, with 1 of us always able to see them from either end.

The only slight negatives we found (which are totally uncontrollable by Sean and Isabelle!) were the adjacent busy road, which was sadly a reminder of civilization particularly on those long, warm evenings sitting outside, and an incredible abundance of flies (more than I have ever seen in any other hot holiday including Spain, Portugal, Italy!). The latter was probably due to the adjacent farmland as well as time of year, and largely solved with strategic placement of some cheap sticky fly papers from the supermarket.

So thank you very much Sean, Isabelle and family for having us and we would certainly consider staying again in the future!

Owner's Response: Dear Tammy, Ian, Megan and Jessica, Thanks very much for your kind review, its always lovely to hear that our guests have had a good time staying in our gite. We love the fact that you mention our dogs “Gribbs and Aggie”, they do enjoy having people around and being made a fuss of. You make lots of positive points but as you say there is not much we can do about the positioning of the nearby road (about a minutes drive away), obviously some times of day are busier than others. However, the positive about this road is the convenience of not having to drive miles before you can get anywhere giving easy access to the larger towns like Dinan 10 mins, Dinard and St Malo 30 to 45 mins and Rennes is about 45 mins as well, for us this outweighs any background noise from passing cars. Yes the flies, I don't like them either! Its a gite in the countryside and there are plenty of farms in Brittany, all over France in fact and they come with the hot weather in the summertime. We don't find the nearby farm a problem at all, apart from the times when the flies are around, we try all sorts of methods to kill them like horrible sticky things and swats (I like the electric swat in one hand and a portable vacuum cleaner in the other… THE FLY BUSTER STRIKES AGAIN! ) I went on a little bit longer than normal in my reply but would like to finish with a thank you again for the superb review and sincerely hope that you visit again one day. Best Regards Isabelle and Sean (Gribbs and Aggie)

Perfect family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We're just back from a very relaxing holiday here!

The gite is great family accommodation and very well thought out by Sean and Isabelle. It has kitchen/ living room downstairs, parents bedroom/ shower room on first floor and kids bedroom on a mezzanine above this. The mezzanine has been lovingly crafted to look like a ships deck so our kids loved imagining they were sleeping on a pirate ship!

Our kids (3 and 5yo) also made full use of the swimming pool and trampoline everyday (which tired them right out), played with the dogs/ cats, helped get eggs from the chickens and pinched raspberries from the garden (thanks Isabelle).

The gite is well located for plenty to do. We went to Dinan, Bourbansais Zoo, Mont St Michel, excellent beach at St Cast (twice), Fort la Latte, St Malo. Jugon-les-Lacs also has all the basic amenities and is a nice little town in itself.

The icing on the cake with this gite was Sean and Isabelle. We all got a warm welcome from them on arrival, great local knowledge on places to visit, just great support all round!

Thank you Sean, Isabelle and family!

Hope to visit again one day!

The perfect family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Just the best holiday for myself, my husband our pre-teen son, daughter and dog.

We explored the region on foot & by car. We cycled locally, our son cycling some of the previous years Tour de France route, we couldn't get our daughter away from the pool, with the array of inflatables to choose from or the trampoline. We visited different towns, & markets and generally enjoyed leisurely days coming & going as we pleased.

We left feeling very well rested and sad it had to end. Special times for us & memories to hold for time to come.

We definitely would return and couldn't thank Sean & Isabelle enough for their generous hospitality and friendliness of all their family.

Great place and fab location!

  • 4 of 5

Isabelle and Sean went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The gite was clean and comfortable with beautiful views over the countryside. The downstairs area is not big, but ample seeing as we spent a lot of the time outside, or at the wonderful beaches nearby! Our children (3 and 6) especially enjoyed feeding the goats dandelion leaves, and walking down to the woods to pick blackberries. We would recommend exploring the coast for day trips and eating in the restaurants to avoid midday sun. Also enjoyed a trip to Dinan town for a wander and huge ice-creams/ crepes. Local cider ‘Kerlioch’ is delicious and we visited the warehouse to bring a couple of boxes home ;-)

Owner's Response: Thank you very much Rachael and Pierre for your kind review, we're very glad that you and your children enjoyed your stay, it was a pleasure for us, particularly helping entertain the kids by the pool! Thanks for the photographs, I hope you enjoyed the ones I sent you. Yes, with the ground floor being used for the kitchen, dining and living area we are looking to pave the outside gravelled patio area so that the dining area can extend outside, we think this will be particularly popular in the summer months. Hope that one day you will all come and visit again. Best Regards Sean and Isabelle

A great family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great holiday with Isabella and Sean and all the animals. The children (aged 10 and 6) really enjoyed the swimming pool and trampoline each evening after a day sightseeing, and all of the animals. Climbing a step ladder to pick fresh cherries off the cherry tree was another daily highlight. The gite was very comfortable, very well equipped, and the children loved sleeping up in the mezzanine floor. The gite is well located for touring the local area, with something different to do each day. We visited Dinan, Dinard, St Malo, the zoo at La Bourbonsais, a historic farm in a nearby village and went kayaking on the lake at Jugon. Equally, you could spend the whole day relaxing around the pool if you wished. There was a good selection of board games and tourist literature in the gite also. Isabella and Sean were great hosts, very welcoming and helpful. It was also great that we were able to stay from Friday instead of Saturday. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their holiday and would happily return.

Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

French lessons with my wife Isabelle (a fully qualified English/French teacher) can be arranged, please ask for more info. I am a cabinet maker and paint effects on furniture lessons can also be arranged with prior notice. I have a web site that shows some of my work. Please see the link below for my web site address. http://www.homesweethome-france.com/

There is a local tourist office with much info on what to do and see both locally and further afield.

There are lots of beautiful sandy beaches to find within a 30-40 minute drive. St Jacut (rockpools )and St Cast (lots of sand!) are among our favourites. The north coast of Brittany is a very beautiful area to visit with many places of interest. There is a local tourist office with much info on what to do and see both locally and further afield.

New to the area:-WAKE BOARDING........ great fun for the sporty

The drive from the Channel Tunnel is about 5 1/2 hours.

Our nearest port is St Malo (just 40 mins from here) is serviced by Brittany Ferries and Condor, it is also possible to travel to Cherbourg or Caen. P&O Portsmouth routes travel to Cherbourg and Le Havre. Other alternatives are Roscoff, Calais, Honfleur and Granville. Ryanair fly to Dinard (from Stansted and Luton). It is possible to obtain very cheap flights via Ryanair if you book well in advance

"How to get here!"

From Dinan keep on the N176 - direction St Brieuc.

It is 18 Km from Dinan to Jugon les Lacs.

Take the exit for Jugon les Lacs.

At the top of the slip road DON'T turn left for Jugon but turn right for Plancoet. Almost immediately on the left handside of the road you will see a driveway that leads to a small hamlet and our house. There is a sign marked "Clairets"

You will also see my business sign for "homesweethome".(kitchen building etc!)

Le Clairet is last on the left.

Further Details:

There is a local tourist office with much info on what to do and see both locally and further afield. For any not so nice days there is an ice skating rink and indoor bowling in St Brieuc (approx. 30 minutes drive). Bowling also in Dinan. Dinan, a medieval town is a must for a day out with its well preserved castle, quaint streets and buildings. The famous Rue Jerzual is a very steep narrow lane down to the old port of Dinan but the way back is not for the fainthearted!(pushchairs not recommended!)

There are many many good eateries including "La Mere Pourcel" restaurant. St Malo, not just a port but a beautiful town in its own right, the walled city was heavily bombed during the second world war, but has been wonderfully restored and is full of sights, good restaurants and shops. There is also a very good aquarium to visit.

Dinard market on Saturday is very large and is a 'must visit place' as is the stunning Mont St Michel, built out in the bay, this town is topped by an amazing abbey, the spires of which can be seen inland for miles (Warning: you have to pay an entrance fee when you get to the top of the steps!). The tidal ranges are world famous and it is said the incoming tide can beat a galloping horse!

It's about an hours drive from the gite.

There are many places to walk and cycle locally.

Fishing, canoe ing/sailing and "pedalo.ing" on the lake can be arranged.

Market days vary, but Dinan on Thursday and Dinard on Saturday are probably the largest and well worth a visit to buy typical Breton presents and souvenirs.

Our family had a wonderful time at Le Clairet, so much so that we came back. We would recommend to any family with young children. The Bartleys are very friendly and welcoming . The local watersports are excellent. We had a great time canoeing and sailing at Jugon les Lacs. Dinan was lovely. Our children enjoyed french lessons with Isabelle. We are hoping to visit again next year - for the third year running !
