About the Owner

We live in the beautiful Peak District with our two spaniels and two Tortoises! Having semi retired, from running a software company and from teaching we are kept busy with grandchildren, children and friends and most recently a property renovation project. But no longer working full time has given us the flexibility to enjoy spending even more time in France at the villa enjoying the house, garden and region and improving our French!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have been staying in various French houses for over ten years now and have only been back to one other, and yours was definitely our favorite. We had as close to a perfect holiday as I think you can get. No-one wanted to come home!. We were so pleased with the house, it was such a lovely garden too. With two teenage daughters and a friend each it was really perfect for either all being together or having chill out time.

Had a fantastic time at the house. It really is superb. Very comfortable with all amenities. Kids wanted to move in permanently! BBQ was superb - better than my 'fake' gas one at home.

Had a great week, pool and villa brilliant. Area here is just wonderful – Castelnou is lovely. Thuir is typically French and Can Marty a great restaurant. The table outside the villa was great for all of us to sit round and enjoy our BBQ and good company – Makes for a great holiday.

Great place for a family holiday with everything one needs - personally I liked the hammock.

Perfect family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We visited this villa as 2 families of 4 in August. It is in a quiet location, surrounded by countryside, but is only an easy 20min drive from Perpignan and 30 mins from the coast. The villa itself was perfect for our needs - a good size swimming pool and garden, 5 decent bedrooms, a lovely living room and TV area etc. There was also a mezzanine area with a darts board and pool table to keep the dads happy. We should also mention the outside dining area, where we had breakfast and dinner every day.

There are plenty of interesting places to visit nearby. We'd recommend Castelnou, Le Racou beach and Collioure.

John, the owner, was very helpful and responsive whenever we had any questions.

We'd recommend this villa with pleasure.

Lovely, relaxing holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Most of us arrived at the villa around 10.30pm after travelling all day. Thankfully the others had arrived earlier in the day and had stocked the handy beer fridge! The villa is beautiful, clean, well equipped and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. We encountered one small plumbing issue during our stay which was dealt with almost immediately by Mark, who takes care of the house. In total there were 8 of us, including our 2 sons and 2 daughters who range in age from 15-22. They were more than happy to spend their days in the pool, playing cricket in the garden, and pool or darts in the house (accompanied by the other 60 year “child” who had come along too!) The house allows for a variety of activities for all the family, including reading and sleeping in the hammock…or falling out of it instead!

We visited Castelnou, Villefranche-de-Conflet , Mosset and ventured almost to Col De Jau (although hairpin bends were a little scary at times and it was a good thing we hadn’t tried it in the people carrier). We also spent a few hours on the beach at Saint Cyprien, near the dunes, which was not overcrowded allowing for a peaceful dip in the sea. Everything you need can be found in Thuir, the local town, and the market on Saturday morning is worth a visit by girls who like to shop! The bakery in Thuir is a great place to get your daily bread and croissants. We were also partial to the odd mille-feuille or two from there. Plenty of places to stock up on wine within a reasonable drive and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending the villa to any of our friends.

Many thanks for the lovely holiday!

Fabulous traditional French Property

  • 5 of 5

Immaculate throughout, a lovely welcome note and bottle from the owners! Just what we needed after our travels.

The house was perfectly suited to the 6 adults and 3 children. Big enough to move around and do your own thing and plenty of options of where to sit at night chatting, while having a glass or 2 of the local wine.

We will definitely be back!

Highly recommended holiday accomadation

  • 5 of 5

Drove from Carcasonne airport, an easy drive that takes about 1hr 20min. The house is beautiful and a few welcome groceries and bottle of wine were left to greet us. Everything was nice and clean and it is very well equipped with more than you usually find. So nice not to have to wash up after every cuppa because there is only one each of everything! We made good use of the fantastic pool. Lots of loungers around the pool too and not forgetting the hammock. There are two bikes to use and plenty of toys for younger children plus pool table and darts for the older ones.

A memorable stay in this lovely villa

  • 5 of 5

We stayed one week at this beautiful villa in Thuir. We were two families of friends with 4 children visiting this lovely part of France. The house has lots of character and is is equipped with all the amenities and has plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for the eight of us. The pool was a super hit with the kids and the adults. The house exceeds the description with so many added comforts.

Jon was extremely prompt in answering many of my queries and the house had loads of small added details that it felt like staying in a home away from home. There was a warm welcome pack which we loved and the pool was cleaned before and during our stay too.

Castelnou, voted one of the prettiest villages in France is only a few minutes away and there are plenty of beaches within 30 minutes drive. Thuir itself is a pretty little market town that had a variety of restaurants. Carcassone is only about an hour and half away and was ideal for a day trip.

We had an absolutely fabulous time relaxing by the pool, enjoying the long summer evenings with a bbq, or walking around the beautiful area.

We would definitely love to go back and stay here again, probably for two weeks next time.

2 families on holiday

  • 5 of 5

We would all like to thank John for allowing us to spend two weeks this year at his lovely villa.

This was our second visit to the villa and we would book again!

We travelled from Leeds on the Saturday morning, drove on to the tunnel and started our long drive down to Thuir, we stopped over night in a hotel and arrived Sunday. The drive down was good and we were lucky that all the children were well behaved (DVD players and game consoles came in handy!)

When we arrived at the villa it was clean and welcoming, just the same as the previous year.

We find the villa excellent for enjoying days around the pool and nights around the large outside bench and BBQ.

It is also a good base to enjoy days out to the coastal resorts, this year we visited St Cyprien, Argeles, Plage de Roussillon and also travelled approximately 1hr into Spain and visited the lovely resort of Palamos. All these resorts are worth visiting, to spend the day and also evening at.

We visited Perpignan on a Sunday, but not much was open although we all enjoyed a look around the Papais des Rois de Majorque.

I would say that if you are hoping to eat out in Thuir to make sure that you book before. Thuir is a lovely village and we loved wandering around the village and then calling for an ice cream or crepe.

We would happily recommend the villa to our friends and family.

Location

From the Owner

After falling in love with the Languedoc Roussillon region on many happy holidays here, we finally decided to take the plunge and buy somewhere in 2000. After a short hunt we found Villa Eleanor and 15 years on we haven’t looked back! The house is named after John’s mum, which is apt as it is has been all about family for us. We have spent countless holidays here and still love coming back every year with our friends, three children and now grandchildren. Every season has something special to offer and whether sunbathing or skiing is your thing Villa Eleanor is a great place to come on holiday all year round. We hope you enjoy the house and the area as much as we have.
