About judith Bramham-law

Jeremy and I are in our late 50's with one adult son living in England. We originally lived in Buckinghamshire but decided to move to Brittany for a quieter life, which we certainly found at Penderff. Jeremy had a very demanding job in the prison service whereas I was training to be a Councellor in eating disorders and we felt that we needed to slow down a bit. We are very relaxed and informal, there is no standing on ceremony here, life is too short! We have two pet dogs (who not run lose but are kept in our private garden) one cat, one horse and pony and some canaries. We have been welcoming guests here for twelve years and we still love it as much as we did in 2006. We look forward to meeting new people, making new friends, and genuinely enjoy helping people with suggestions of places to visit, things to do and reassure those guests who maybe haven't been abroad before that we are always on hand if needed but never intrusive. We are very aware that a family holiday is a precious thing when families can spend quality time together, enjoy their peaceful surroundings in complete privacy. What we say to our guests if they are worried that their children are being noisy in the pool is that we would be worried if they were quiet. Actually I could write all day on how wonderful we both are (ha ha) but I think that our reviews and our comment book speak for themselves.

judith Bramham-law purchased this cottage in 2006

Why judith Bramham-law chose Pontivy area

Why the owner chose a home in this location. We fell in love with Penderff as it is peaceful, beautiful and tranquil, the views are breathtaking, and the fact that we don't have to move off our own land to enjoy fabulous walks whilst not meeting a soul. The gite itself is friendly and welcoming and you feel very relaxed. Locally there are many forests, walks, rivers and streams as well as history in its adjacent towns. There is so much to see and do and we are central for most places in Brittany.

We are within 40 mins of the south coast beaches which means that you are not surrounded by crowds of holiday makers and busy traffic, but close enough to enjoy a seaside holiday. The countryside is diverse, its not flat and arable but woods, hills and valleys and the Nantes Brest canal is also close by. We are so easy to get to, 2hrs from St Malo ferry port. We purchased Penderff after only seeing it once, we were that sure.

What makes this cottage unique

We are within easy reach of towns and shops but whilst at Penderff not a car can be heard. We have 100 acres of our own land for walking around, a little fishing lake with rowing boat, ruins and woods to explore and the river to walk along.

Our gite is also available for the first time for Christmas and New Year. You can enjoy a roaring log burner, a real Christmas tree provided by us and mulled wine and minced pies to greet you on your arrival. Why not treat yourself to a Christmas away this year!

See us on Facebook penderff holiday home, it all happens here!

Notes on accommodation: We love having children, the area in front of the gite is fenced with a gate. Apart from the log burners there is electric heating to all bedrooms. Fire wood is provided for the first day and we can advise where to purchase it . Our farmhouse is let in the summer months but the gite is completly separate with its own entrance, pool, garden and does not share any facilities with the house. We live on site but away from both properties as to not to intrude but we are here if needed! Outside: Gite has an enclosed gated, gravelled patio area with vine covered arbores giving shade in the sun.,There is a table and chairs for six, and BBQ. The above ground pool is located within the large garden is 7.5 by 4.8m and is approx 4 feet deep. Guests will have exclusive access to the pool (heated May to 1st week Sept by solar panels) The garden is completly fenced so safe for small children, totally private and not overlooked. The garden has sun loungers, magnificent views and all day sun, mature trees offer shade if needed. There is also a permanent barbeque built within the ancient breadoven for guest's use. The property is exceptionally beautiful and is a haven for wildlife, with kingfishers, pine martins, deer and wild boar all have which have been spotted. There are numerous walks around the property exploring the river, ruined mill, meadows and forest all of which are on our private land. Adjoining our land is a forest with acres of tracks and paths for hours of walking. Utility Room: There is an automatic washing machine, ironing board and iron situated in the changing room. Fantastic, just as described

  • 5 of 5

The hosts were exceptional and the accomodation was supremely clean with everything we needed for a great holiday.

Judith and Jeremey were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble, my daughter even got to ride Teddy, Jeremeys horse which was an unexpected bonus and made her holiday!

Charming; very clean, well equipped and spacious

  • 5 of 5

On arrival: home made cake, lovely wine and beautiful flowers, plus essential supplies in the fridge - what more could one ask for? We had a lovely, relaxing stay, making the most of the pool in the hot weather. Hosts very friendly and always ready to help out with anything, including booking a table at a restaurant nearby. Property lay out is excellent and catered well for our elderly mother. Would definitely holiday here again.

Beautiful and peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

I spent week at the property at end of May. I travelled with my husband, my daughter and her two sons (grandsons) ages 8 and 6. This is such a peaceful location and a very pretty gite. There is a large family sized kitchen opening on to a nice comfortable lounge area. My grandsons and daughter had the two ground floor bedrooms and their own bathroom and my husband and I had the upstairs double room with en suite. It was really well laid out property with plenty of room to come together as a family but allowing the different generations their own space too. I loved the location and walked everyday in the extensive grounds where wildlife abounds. We saw deer, sign of badger, buzzards, fish, frogs and foxes. The boys particularly loved the freedom to roam, making dens in the woods, learning to fish with grandad at the lake and the youngest developed a love of photography going down to the river and lake every day to take pictures of the frogs, butterflies and insects. The pool was also a big hit in fact we only ventured out one day as the boys were having so much fun with the pool, games, extensive grounds. But the best thing about the holiday was the warm welcome by our lovely hosts Judith and Jeremy never intrusive but always happy to help at any time. Fresh flowers on kitchen table, everything supplied for our first mornings breakfast, the most delicious fresh baked cake and a bottle of merlot. The perfect beginning to a great week. Thanks.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for making the time to write this review. Jeremy and I are so pleased that you all had a wonderful time, it was a pleasure having you to stay. As you so rightly say, we have so much space to explore and lots of room for children to let off steam and to find out about nature and wildlife in a safe environment. We love the fact that children can be free to build dens, play poo sticks and get away from the all too familiar computers and tv! Jeremy and I love doing what we do, we love meeting new people and when we hear laughter, shouts and screaming coming from the pool garden, we know that the holiday is being enjoyed to the full. You are very welcome at Penderff at anytime. Thank you. Judith

What an amazing time we had

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at Penderff. The gite was perfect for our needs, with plenty of space, inside and out. Judith and Jeremy were excellent hosts, with lots of useful help and information about the local area, and without intruding on our privacy.

The gite was clean and well maintained with all the facilities we needed (including satellite television to keep the kids happy!). The garden was also well maintained and of a good size. We even managed to make use of the pool, although it was a little chilly at this time of year.

We made full use of the garden, pool and games room, spending a lot of time just hanging around the gite and paying games in the garden. It was so peaceful and relaxing, especially with the warm springtime sunshine.

Our four children (aged 7 to 16) all had a great time, playing in the pool, or playing snooker, badminton, table tennis and football. We even had a go at building a small den in the wooded area. There is plenty of land to explore, and we easily found the lake were we had a wonderful picnic and row around.

The supermarket is less than 10 minutes drive, and has plenty of variety, even a small 'British' section with gravy, beans etc. (But bring your own Marmite, its €7 a pot there) There was even some Quorn mince and Linda McCartney sausages for my vegetarian son.

We didn’t visit a great deal. Locally we saw the castle at Pontivy and hired boats on the Lac de Geurledan. Further afield, we went to the Foret Adreneline, a tree climbing experience near Carnac. It is about an hours drive, but it has climbing trails for children as young as 2 years and plenty of trails for our 7 year old. It’s a reasonable price too, compared to the UK. Booking is essential though. Also the Parc de loisirs Le P'tit Délire near Ploemel was fun. It is an inflatable and slides park, aimed at younger children, but we all had fun playing human table football, gladiator style ‘knock em off’ inflatables, and other games. There are slides, adventure playgrounds, go-karts, and an indoor play area if the weather is a but dodgy. Reasonably priced entry, but the food is very limited and not cheap. The only vegetarian food was a ham and cheese panini with the ham removed before cooking! Bring your own food and drink.

The weather at Easter was clear and sunny most days, but starting off cold in the mornings (frost on the cars), and soon heating up to 18-20° in the afternoon.

I'm running out of typing space now, so I will stop. We highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. We are so pleased that you all had such a wonderful time! It is great that you wrote so much useful information for other future guests to read, as you say, there is an amazing amount of things to do not far from Penderff, also there is lots of activities to do here which you all made full use of. We loved to see you all playing games outside, chasing around and making full use of the space, I'm hoping that our next family will continue with building the den which you started. We hope to see you again in the future, you would be very welcome.

Comfortable and relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

We were welcomed by Judith on arrival and we felt at home straight away. We found Penderff to be an excellent base from which to explore this most scenic part of Brittany. It was lovely to be able to wander around Judith and Jeremy's vast estate including a delightful riverside walk and a small lake. As a professional photographer with a keen interest in wildlife my husband Laurence was in his element! The local town of Lignol is a short walk away and has a wonderful boulangerie with the best baguettes I've ever tasted. It was a little quieter than normal being late in the season and some restaurants were closed but there were still plenty of good quality places to eat nearby. Judith even went out of her way to book us a table at the Auberge du Pont Calleck a 15 min drive away for an evening of fine dining! We had many good days out and particularly enjoyed our visit to Pont Aven and a beautiful cliff top walk at Port Manec'h (Judith's suggestion). Thank you both for a very enjoyable holiday.

Special interest holidays:

2015 is a very exciting year. The Lac de Guerledan which is 20 miles long is being drained. It last happened in 1985 and next year will be the last ever time this happens. Four million tourists are expected to visit Brittany to see this amazing sight of the hidden villages, houses and the old canal course. It will be fully empty by May 2015 and will remain dry until the autumn. This is a once in a life time event not to be missed. We are a 25 minute drive away from the Lac.

We have had many guests who are artists, they all say that the estate, especially the area around the ruined mill is perfect for painting and sketching, the area is totally unspoilt and untouched.

Children's riding lessons can be arranged a five minute drive from the gite at a fully credited riding school.

Also we can arrange (subject to availability) private yoga lessons, an Indian Head massage or Reiki, all in the comfort of your holiday home.

The truly astounding southwest beaches are approximately 40 minutes away by car with the resorts Guidel-Plage, Lamore-Plage and the Ile de Groix close by. There are many, beautiful beaches in Morbihan, from small coves to large sweeping beaches. You can choose from family beaches which have full facilities, to isolated and wild rugged ones. We are ideally situated for the south and north coasts so you are always spoilt for choice. There are also many islands in the Golfe de Morbihan.

Further Details:

In the village of Lignol we have two restaurants and a bar, and a first class bakery, their make the best croissants that I have ever eaten! In the next village of Kernescleden there is a very good village shop selling all manner of things including wine, it is a 4 min drive from the gite. In Guemene a 6 mins drive there are several restaurants and bars. There are 2 banks, 2 supermarkets, two garages. Here you will also find the doctor and dentist if needed. If its clothes shopping you are interested in, Lorient is the place which also has a world class marina and restaurants. A 25 mins drive away you will find the Lac de Guerledan, its very beautiful and 7.5 miles long. Dotted around its shores are little hamlets, especially Anse de Sordan and Beau Rivarge, both of which have beaches which are safe for swimming, canoes and pedalos for hire and restaurants etc. There are also motor boat trips around the lake. Also in the same area is the lovely abbey of Bon Repos. A 12C Cisercain abbey that is being restored and is well worth a visit. In August every year they host an evening of story telling and lights which is always a sell out. On Sundays there is a colourful market beside the abbey and the Nantes/Brest canal. A little further afield 1hr are the famous standing stones at Carnac, which is at the gateway to the Golf de Morbihan and its hundreds of islands, again one can visit by boat. We give lots of helpful tips and advice in our welcome pack.

Our games room also has gym equipment, cross trainer, exercise bike, lifting bar with weights, used at guests own risk.

Children's horse riding lessons can be arranged at a fully credited stables a five minute drive from the cottage. Past guests fully recommend this.

If the weather is inclement there is a brand new huge indoor pool with water slides, lazy river, spa and sauna at Pontivy, a 20 minute drive away.
