A bucolic idyll - for up to 7 people with stunning pool

Our much-loved and excellently equipped watermill, built in 1782, nestles in a tranquil valley in its own 50 acres of meadows and woodland. All you will hear is the peaceful sound of the water flowing past the house, crickets chirping and birds in song.

There is a stunning 12 x 6m swimming pool (optional heating in June and September) with pergola and there are both sun drenched and shady terraces for lunches outside. Free use of the tennis courts in the village (less than 10 minutes' walk) is included and there is a table tennis table at the house. There are many beautiful walks directly from the house and plentiful historic towns and sights within easy reach.

Interior designed, comfortably and traditionally furnished. One double bedroom with four poster bed, ensuite bathroom. Two twin-bedded rooms. Shower room. Separate WC. Kitchen (fully-fitted with dishwasher and fridge/freezer). Large dining / sitting room. Separate laundry.

Charcoal and gas fired barbecue.

Linen, towels and cleaning included. Logs and heating in winter months included. Pool heating optional (£100/week extra).

As one guest said "We have been visiting France in this way [self catering holidays] for 20 years. Your property comes in the top 3 places we have used" (2001).

We come to unwind, be in touch with nature and have family fun. Sadly, we cannot use it all summer so we share it with others.

“Perfect fortnight Occasional excursions to Najac and Cordes for festival and canoeing. Otherwise lazy days at home punctuated by the greatest food fare in Villefranche de Rouergue market. Lots of wildlife : highlights included humming bird, hawkmoth, nightjar,nightingales, owl and 30 minutes fishing display by a kingfisher on the millpond. The biggest frogs in France under the kitchen window have prospered in the last year, perfecting butterfly ambush at the water’s edge. Several very long green snakes – juveniles and adults –warm themselves daily on the paving but are very alert to footfall and slip away quickly. On our hottest day – 35 degrees – the millpond became a mini-Amazon, the grasss snakes basking at the water’s edge, against the wall. Caught voracious minnows and, with a deeper bait, roach of various sizes, including a half-pound ‘grandmother’. No trout, no carp, at least to our bait. Sad to leave “.

Great poolside holiday

The property was well equipped, clean and tidy. However, the coffee machine was a little dated and very slow to produce two cups of coffee. The pool area was fantastic! The owners accommodated my need to have the pool heated (due to a medical condition). The outside lighting was disappointing - there was not enough overhead lighting to read by on the poolside terrace of an evening and the security lights were temperamental which made outside dinning difficult once it got dark. It would have been helpful to know that the welcome party spoke very little English which made communicating difficult when we arrived. Also knowing if local restaurants spoke some English would be useful as we are still learning the language.Overall we had a very pleasant stay and visited some lovely places as suggested in the information left by the owner. Thank you.

Very special property

This is a very special property, set in absolutely lovely grounds, with many places to sit and enjoy the weather and the scenery. We particularly loved eating by the pool, which is lovely when lit up at night, and by the millpond. For lovers of wild swimming, the millpond is an extraordinary bonus: a deep, freshwater pool, with steps in and long enough to do laps.

On a practical note, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and the property very well cared for.

A real find

We had a wonderful holiday in your lovely home with its superb private swimming pool. For restaurants, we would recommend le Vieux Pont (at, Belcastel) and Hotel du Barry (at Najac) - fantastic, great food but remember to book ahead ! We also had great trips to Conques and Cordes.

Le Moulin

THE HOUSE

As we drove onto the gravel drive and saw the pool, the stream, the woods, and the mill itself it was a real OMG moment (as the children say nowadays!). The photographs we had seen didn't even come close to conveying how stunning it actually was. We appreciated the very

traditional French decor in the living room, and sleeping in a four-poster was a novel experience. As a bibliophile I was excited by all the books.

THE WEATHER

We were incredibly lucky with the weather. In the event, there were heavy bursts of rain during the night but every day was hot and sunny. Bliss!

THE AVEYRON

Nothing could have prepared us for the beauty of the Aveyron. We have been many times to the Loire, the Languedoc, Burgundy, Provence, and the Ile-de-France, but the Aveyron was quite simply stunning. We were very pleased to take your advice and drive to Savignac for our bread.

The POOL

This was a joy. After a long hot day it was wonderful to have a swim, and in such total privacy.

VILLEFRANCHE DE ROUERGUE

We loved the town. It was sleepy, traditional, and not given over to the tourist trade.

Location

We fell in love with this 18th century millhouse when on holiday and have never regretted buying and come as often as we can. It is as if time has stood still since the house was built in 1782. The house has a magic of its own and is totally secluded - surrounded by its own 50 acres of meadows and woodland.

Canoeing/ white water rafting on the River Aveyron

Tennis membership in the village (included free in the cost of your holiday) - a 10 minute walk from the house.

There is riding nearby at Monteils (6km - 10 minutes).

Travel:

Rodez Airport (Ryanair) 50 minutes away by car

Toulouse Airport (BA/Easyjet) 90 minutes away by car

About 600 miles from the Channel ports. Use of a car is essential as the house is in the countryside.

Distances:

0.5km from the village of La Rouquette

3km from Savignac for fresh bread

8km from Villefranche de Rouergue (Royal bastide town founded 1252).

25 mins. drive to Najac- a dramatic hilltop fortified town.

Day trips to Conques, Albi, Cordes, the Gorges de l'Aveyron, Toulouse.

Shopping and restaurants:

Villefranche de Rouergue (8km) has 3 supermarkets, specialist food shops, restaurants and a spectacular weekly market. It was founded in 1252 and was a royal bastide town.

  • Notes on accommodation: Not suitable for children who cannot swim as there is water all round the property. Please ask us if you are elderly/infirm or have difficulty walking. Outside: Private swimming pool 10 x 5m. Outdoor loungers, dining chairs and parasols provided. One shaded terrace under the pergola by the pool. Two further terraces, one under the lime tree beside the millpond (to the rear of the property) with a charcoal barbecue and a second, sun-drenched, looking out over the meadow (with a gas fired barbecue). Each terrace has a millstone as an outdoor table for eating. Utility Room: 2 washing machines, separate dryer, double stainless steel sink and further shower. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen, towels and swimming towels are included. The property is cleaned before and after each tenancy and once a week during the tenancy. Linen is changed once a week.
