About Ann Walker

We live in the countryside in England and decided that the seaside would provide a different experience for everyone. Our children who are now in their late twenties and early thirties still come with their friends and partners. We love sharing the cottage with our visitors some of whom have been 10 or 12 times.

Ann Walker purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Ann Walker chose Polruan

We first visited Polruan in the 1990s. Despite the fact that it poured with rain every day and that we had three small children and a dog with us, we loved every minute of that holiday. We were determined to buy a house nearby and when some years later an opportunity presented itself in Polruan we started to renovate September Cottage. We visit as often as our jobs permit and our children who are now grown up love to come to Cornwall as well. Our eldest son proposed to his girlfriend on the cliffs in Polruan so it has become a special place for all the family. We have received many visitors over the past few years who have sent glowing letters of recommendation about the cottage and its wonderful views over the Fowey estuary.

What makes this cottage unique

Wonderful views over the bay towards Fowey with the many boats which sail into the harbour. The unspoilt village of Polruan, near the attractions of a tourist centre like Fowey but lovely and peaceful to come home to after a day of sightseeing and walking.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time and your cottage was fantastic. Spotless, beautifully presented and a setting that exceeded expectation. I would honestly say that your website photos do not do it or its location and views justice. (Dan Hemmings - June 2009)

We have had a wonderful time at your lovely cottage - so appreciated the way you have decorated and furnished it, the views on all sides and how cosy and warm we all were - quite rare in most places we have visited in winter. (Nancy Wells January 2014)

Stunning views

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfectly packaged little cottage with stunning estuary views. Comfy beds and sofas, wonderful shower, great log burner. We took a walk around the estuary and had lunch in the pub by the ferry crossing to Fowey, before catching the ferry across and another back to Polruan. We were lucky with the weather (for November) and I only wish we could have stayed for longer.

Owner's Response: Dear Sharon Thank you for this lovely review. It sounds as though you did the Hall Walk. We usually do that too- amazing views and a pub at a convenient stopping off point. So glad you had an enjoyable visit.

Comfortable cottage in a very peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at the cottage. It was in a beautiful, peaceful location and had great views over the river. The kitchen is well equipped for its size and the living area is great - we loved looking out at the ferry going over to Fowey every day. The wood burning stove made it feel really cosy and warm and we were able to get logs from the local store without any problems. Really useful to have the washing machine/dryer! Polruan is a lovely little town, and we enjoyed catching the ferry across to Fowey, which has more shops and restaurants. Ann and Chris are great hosts and were on hand if we needed them. Would definitely consider coming back.

Perfect location, lovely views, comfortable cottage

  • 4 of 5

The only thing that prevented us from giving the cottage 5 stars was the fact that the woodburner was rather temperamental and wouldn't draw very well and so sometimes we were a bit chilly as our stay was in November. Perhaps a small electric fire to be used in the living room when needed would be a good idea for winter use. Apart from that the cottage was completely wonderful and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. We loved the views from the living room window and enjoyed all that the Smart TV had to offer! The equipment was very comprehensive and of high quality and the bed was very comfortable. We went on many walks directly from the cottage - it is ideally located for walks along the coastal path and also inland around the estuary and beyond. The ferry services are very regular and we enjoyed Sunday lunch and an excellent evening meal at the Lugger pub in Polruan.

Owner's Response: Dear Jill Thank you for the review. I am so sorry that you felt cold in the eve. We were there a couple of weeks before you and the wood burner was working well. There is a small blower heater in the cupboard under the stairs and of course you can turn up the storage heater. If the wood burner is not working we would definitely be prepared to change it. Thank you for letting us know. Thank you also for your follow up email. You think it might be because of climatic conditions - when the weather is "still" at your home your wood burner does not work well and it was a completely "still" weekend in Polruan. I have emailed the couple who followed you the next day and they had no problems at all. We shall certainly monitor. Thank you for your help and kind comments.

Holiday in Polruan

  • 5 of 5

We had four nights in September Cottage late in September. Very comfortable and warm and well equipped cottage, with lovely views onto Fowey Harbour. With easy access to The Coast Path, walks can be taken straight from the cottage without needing the car. Access by car is limited by the very narrow streets, which is the characteristic of the village. It was useful to have a parking space within easy walking distance. Excellent sandwiches can be bought from Crumpets, who also bake very good bread and pies nearby in the village. Evening meals at The Lugger Inn were very good, with day boat fish dishes etc and friendly service. Booking advisable. We plan to return to the cottage sometime next year.
