About Sam and Vicky

Sam and Vicky Elliott moved to Kerabellec in February 2015 from Eastbourne , just shortly after both his parents died and our two children having finished university were settled in jobs in England. ( We live on site in our own house )

Sam had spent the last 30 years working abroad in healthcare, whilst Vicky had been working in local schools in Eastbourne as a teaching assistant, cover supervisor , matron and a housekeeper. We decided that we needed to spend some time together after years of feeling like ships passing in the night . So we decided to make some time for ourselves and we found Kerabellec, where we walk our two small dogs every day and it is a wonderful place to live all year round with the birds, cows, deer and wildlife which still amaze us when they come in to the garden and we rush to pick up the binoculars. We hope that you enjoy Kerabellec as much as we do.

Sam and Vicky purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Sam and Vicky chose Pontivy area

All four of our properties are in a fantastic location and very central to head out for the beaches , towns , eating or shopping with South facing aspects , which means that we have the sun all day on the complex. It is a bright, spacious complex but everybody still has their own privacy . LA FAISANE which has a DOWNSTAIRS bathroom and shower room is very popular with teenagers grandparents or less able people who would usually struggle with stairs. Guests can take books or games from the site with a picnic and sit down by the river under the weeping willow tree, and their is a calm and peace that helps you to unwind from the usual hectic work/ school life .If you bring your wellingtons or paddling shoes, the river is only a few inches deep in the summer months and great for looking for habitats with the children paddling in the water. Or the younger children have space to ride bikes or skate.

What makes this cottage unique

Kerabellec is fantastic for group bookings, where friends and families have the opportunity to all meet for a holiday together (as well as individual family holidays) as the complex sleeps 22/24 plus travel cots. All on one site everybody still has their own space and privacy.

Kerabellec is central for , beaches, towns , historical sights, markets , river kayaking , water sports golf and fishing all within 30 minutes or less on the fantastic French roads . Every gite is south facing . We do have wildlife here , with the red squirrel, birds of prey, the deer who come to the river at night for a drink and thousands of small birds and also the tiny little bats that fly around late at night ,so fantastic for the animal lover. There are some beautiful French towns really worth a visit such as Vannes , Auray, Josselin, Rennes and many more but especially Quimper which has a magnificent cathedral in the centre of the medieval town. For the beach lover you would really love Quiberon, Guidel , Lamor Plage , Trinite Sur Mer or the wild and rugged Nevez and Kerhillio suitable for dogs . For the bird lover the sea estuary of Nostang is a beautiful experience only 20 minutes from Kerabellec. If you love modern art then the chateaux and sculpture park just through Bignan is well worth a visit And it is FREE for you to go in to the art exhibitions . Kerabellec is only 15 minutes from Pont Augan where you can take your bikes and ride along the Blavet for miles. Kayaking is also available at this site and is great for an adult or family activity.

The closest beaches are around Carnac - about 35 minutes on easy roads by car. Worth travelling another five minutes for are the beaches on Western side of the Quiberon peninsular where there is a wealth of water sport, including wind-surfing, kite-surfing, surfing and sand-surfing! The waters on the eastern side of the peninsular are calmer for young families. A favourite beach with our clients is at Kerhilio just at the base of the peninsular, also Guidel, Lamor plage , Trinite Sur Mer . Just ask us for any additional ideas and places to go .

Our nearest airport is at Rennes (just over an hour by car) Flights from the UK also come into Nantes Dinard Lorient and Brest. July and August flights from Stanstead to Lorient only 30 minutes from Kerabellec. The nearest ferry ports are at Roscoff and St Malo, each about two hours drive away. Caen is under three hours by car and Cherbourg three and half hours. The drive from the Tunnel terminal at Calais takes six hours but there are lots of service and toilet areas to rest.Your own transport is essential when staying here.

Our nearest town is Baud, with a good selection of small shops, and some excellent bakers. There are three supermarkets and several good restaurants. La Chapelle Neuve is our closest village - a twenty minute walk away - and has a small shop. For serious shopping there is a hypermarket in Lorient. There are excellent markets locally - one almost every day in Vannes, or Auray, Carnac or Pontivy or Hennebont. There is also a small market in Baud on Saturdays. Rennes also has some great shops.

Further Details:

All Gites are None Smoking, however outside smoking is permitted & ashtrays can be supplied. We keep a basket in each cottage with recommendations for local restaurants and tourist guides to what's on in the area. We ask guests to add to the basket with the things that they have most enjoyed doing. There are several interesting towns in the area, notably Josselin with its historic castle, and Vannes with its medieval streets. Quimper with its cathedral . Rennes a university town and great architecture .

Notes on accommodation: The cottages have all been professionally renovated to a high standard and furnished and equipped very comfortably. All of the complex is suitable for families and children as well as adult groups. Group discounts March, April May, June , September and October . Outside: This area of Brittany is very suitable for families, the peace and quiet of the countryside combined with easy access to the beaches of Southern Brittany. We have 3 acres of gardens and outside space, so there is always somewhere quiet to sit. During the school holidays we tend to have mostly family groups and the children make friends very quickly and share the play area. We also have a large field running down to the River Tarun, and we encourage noisy games such as football and cricket to be played on this. The river runs at the end of our property and our clients are welcome to fish, subject to purchasing the necessary permit from Baud.

Wonderful gites and surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Vicky and Sam both went out of their way to give us excellent advice on the area and help us with our travel options when we had to come back to UK a day early.

Our gite was lovely, spacious and clean and it was amazing to have other families on site with whom our kids could play. The pool is wonderful and the large grounds with the river provide an idyllic setting for kids to run around freely, an opportunity lacking in London. Our dog loved the experience as well and we felt our holiday was even more special having her with us.

The nearby towns and beaches exceeded expectations.

We highly recommend this as a lovely holiday.

Owner's Response: Hi Sharon, Garth and Children, It really was great having you to stay at Kerabellec and to see how happy and easily entertained the children were with all the space to run around and play. Such a contrast to city life . It was fantastic that the children made friends and were able to play and swim together . You are welcome here anytime , should you wish to visit us again in the future. best wishes Vicky and Sam

Perfect relaxing French holiday location

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to this wonderful family run Gites complex.

We were welcomed by our delitefull hosts Sam and Vicky who took time to show us the facilities and explained the history of the Gite we were staying in ( first week Le Pierrot then we moved into La Alouette with other family).

All the Gites were clean, well equipped with individual outdoor seating areas and new BBQs.

The owners were always on hand if you needed advice or problems sorting with the Gite. They were very informative about local attractions or places to eat and each Gite is equipped with a useful information booklet.

We enjoyed visits to Vannes for the fantastic French market(one of the best fish markets I have ever visited) also Locmariaquer for a great meal overlooking the mussel beds and harbour.

If you are looking for a quite French holiday location, very child friendly I would not hesitate in recommending Kerabellec.

Thank you Sam and Vicky for a great holiday.

Fabulous family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Another fabulous break at Kerabellec. Great Gite with plenty of space for two families to catch up and enjoy all that the complex and Brittany have to offer.

The rooms were very comfortable and the Gite is well equipped. Many meals were enjoyed out on the decking area and great use was made of the barbecue.

We all enjoyed the pool, the river, walks and wonderful days out exploring the coast, other river locations for canoeing and local places of historical interest.

Our hosts, Sam and Vicky were exceptionally welcoming and provided excellent advice on places to visit and places to eat - thank you both!

Slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

This was truly a slice of heaven . The views from the terrace was stunning . The bedrooms were roomy and everything was catered for. I have one concern , how do they do it for such a reasonable cost !!.

The location was quiet with beautiful verdant scenery the town was a 5 minute drive with the local village a good 15 minute walk. My boys loved the play area and the swimming pool.

Sam and Vicky were charming and ever helpful had a great holiday

Beautiful properties in lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for three weeks at this beautiful collection of gites with friends. We couldn't have asked for a more peaceful location (very different from our working lives). The surrounding area is stunning and there is plenty of land including a river to explore with really well kept grounds and stunning gardens.

The owners went out of their way to help and accommodate all of our needs and had a wealth of knowledge to share about the local area - really useful for day trips and booking dinner out. They were also kind enough to show us around the free gites and all of them were done to an incredibly high standard. Pool was heated for us especially and we had some fantastic weather too.

Local area great for adults and kids alike (nearby adventure forest at Camors) with the beach at Carnac only 25 minutes away. Lovely towns to explore nearby - Josselyn and Vannes particularly nice. We shall certainly be returning for a summer holiday next time!

Perfect French get away

  • 5 of 5

This was just the latest of many stays at this beautiful gite complex, I and my friends and family have stayed in all the gites, and find each have their own unique charms.

The site is huge with a great pool, individual patios for each gite, and lovely grassed children's play area complete with toys, and a big field which borders a fishing river, to play more boisterous ball games.

The gites are really well equipped, and while they don't have heating, some have wood burners and who needs heating during the summer anyway?

The complex is in a beautiful area, isolated, so you will need a car, but close enough to a village bakery for an early morning walk to get your breakfast. About 45 minutes to the coast, and ten minutes to the nearest supermarket, with loads of local markets taking place almost daily, and with the lovely bigger towns of Lorient and Vanne close by, there is a reason we keep coming back again and again.

Pam and Dave are great hosts, and while the gites are self catering, they are very kind and always helpful, also very useful to have them on site for such things as lighting an unfamiliar cooker etc!
