About the property

House in Santo Antonio Resort, Western Algarve.Overlooks the 18th green, next door to the resort restaurant & bar and 3 km to the beach at Salema.

Our townhouse is situated in what we believe is one of the prime locations on the resort with fantastic views across the whole resort as well as the local hills and out towards the Atlantic. It's perfectly situated next to the clubhouse and 40m away from the 2 large pools. The house also overlooks the 18th green of the renowned Parque da Floresta golf course with extensive views over the 1st, 10th & 18th holes. The wider resort also includes an extensive spa, treatment centre, gym, sauna, indoor pool, golf driving range as well as 4 tennis courts. There are a no. of bars and restaurants on the resort as well as being close to a large no. of unspoilt beaches facing Atlantic on the west coast and the south coast.

The house is also close to a no. of other top golf courses within a 20-30 minutes drive and the bustling town of Lagos with its marina, beaches, shops & restaurants is only 15 minutes away.

Wi fi is available in the spike bar which is right next door to the house.

About John and Jill Coney

We live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire and return to Portugal whenever we can to enjoy the house and the area.

John and Jill Coney purchased this house in 2004

Why John and Jill Coney chose Budens

We first holidayed with some other relatives in the Parque da Floresta resort by renting a house nearby and then liked the resort and the area so much we decided to purchase ourselves along with other family members. The Western Algarve has so much to offer and we still see more every time we visit whether its local attractions, golf courses, towns, villages, beaches, walks or restaurants and as such the area allows you to have a complete rest or a more active holiday.

What makes this house unique

We believe the house is so convenient and close to everything, both in the resort and in the local area. The views from our terrace are just fantastic and are great to either wake up to in order to watch the sun come up in the morning or to watch the sun set in the evening.

The house is less than a minutes stroll from the pools, the bar, the spa and the golf course so could'nt be in a better location on the Parque.

We look forward to going back as soon as we come back home and back to work!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have just returned from another great stay in this wonderful Portuguese villa. We have found that the accommodation meets all our needs for a family with 3 kids. There is ample comfortable furniture, cutlery and kitchenware. Plenty of space in all rooms for relaxation. The terrace has fantastic views across the golf course, added entertainment was had in seeing some terrible drives from the 10th tee (some even made mine look reasonably good!!). Salema beech is a short drive and Praia Da Luz only a few Km's away for the beach holiday. The pool within the complex is excellent, clean and well presented. Overall, this is a great spot, our kids now refer to it as their Portuguese home!. Thanks John & Jill for allowing us to book again next year, we can't wait to get back.

Owner's Response: Hello Chris Thanks for your lovely comments. Nice to hear that the house is still being enjoyed by you and your family. Also good to know you want to go back and we do get a few repeat guests as they love the area so much. The pool and children play area are great for little ones. Always nice and busy during the summer months! We are happy to accommodate you anytime. Cheers for now, John & Jill

What a lovely home you have. It was so exhilerating sitting outside in the peaceful early morning drinking tea and eating croisants that had just been made by the bakery nearby. How convenient it was to be next door to the golf club where we could go and have nice meals coupled with a bottle of wine and just go home safely. Your home is spacious yet cosy and there was everything there that we needed. The views of the surrounding countryside were outstanding making it so relaxing. Unfortunately, I don't know where the time flew and it was time to go home. I will definitely be back there. Being an amateur astronomer, I spent many nights just planet watching in the clear night sky.

Owner's Response: Hello, and thank you very much for your lovely comments about our holiday home. The sky can be really interesting at night as there is no light pollution and we have spent many hours (over the years) seeing shooting stars amongst other things. The house is very spacious and we agree it is a very relaxing holiday. Lots of good food in the area too, especially the croissants from the local shop. We hope you will visit again soon. Kind Regards Jill & John

Home from home - thats what we thought!

Comfortable place with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday, including enough towels for 2 adults and 2 teenage girls!!!! Noticed you could move them out of the way in the wardrobe if more hanging space was needed so not sure why it was a problem for other recent guests. Happily return as often as we can, and recommend it to friends and families looking for relaxing holiday with all of the amenities you need!

Thank you for letting us use your lovely house

  • 5 of 5

Dear Jill and John,

We have returned from a wondeful holiday in Portugal and want to thank you for letting us have the use of your house. We enjoyed every day from breakfast on the balcony in the morning watching the early morning golfers, to dinner in the spacious dining room in the evening.

The views from your balcony are amazing. The house had everything we needed and the location was ideal for us: near the pool, near the restaurant and in general a short drive to some fine beaches (Salemo, Sagres etc).

We would really be happy if you would allow us to spend some time again in your home in Portugal.

Best wishes and thanks again

Damian and Maria

Wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in this villa many times and will do again in the future. We love to go and our children love it too. There is a great communal pool one minute away which has a playground for the children and a snack bar for everyone. There is golf, tennis and football facilities as well as other food establishments on site and the spa and gym.

The house is great it has a lower and upper balcony with a dining table and sun beds, which you can choose to put where you want to, up or down. It has a lovely view over the golf course and you can enjoy the evening breeze sat watching the golfers head in on the 18th green. If you leave the doors open, you can enjoy the sounds of the birds and other wildlife, as well as the sounds of people milling around the complex. Inside has new furniture which is comfortable and has been updated over the years, we first went in 2011 and lots of changes have been made by the owners since then. We have noticed that the outside has been painted and the inside has undergone redecoration too. For the family to amuse themselves (when not in the pool) there are playing cards, colouring, DVD's as well as some English channels on the TV box. The whole villa has great storage for everything, as well as other facilities to use like tennis racquets and pool toys. Some people before us have left food in the fridge and cupboards, which we have enjoyed but that may not be for everyone. The kitchen has everything we need including a bottle fridge, a new boiler, a new cooker and a fairly new washer.

The bedrooms are on the lower floor one with en suite and the other with the house bathroom very nearby. The bedrooms have lovely views too. The sofa in the lounge also converts to a bed and there is a pull out blow up mattress which is great for a big family. There is plenty of bedding and towels, so that helps keep the packing light and the maid service keeps the whole villa clean and tidy.

Great views, shame about the place.

  • 1 of 5

We were very impressed by the views, but internally there were a number of issues, previously opened bags of food left in the freezer, plus mould on the doorseals of both fridge and freezer, a cracked woodburner glass we had been told about but which we were expecting to have been repaired, it took 47 days to get it done and the evenings were quite cold, wardrobes filled with old towels leaving no hanging room. There was mould on the ceilings of both bedrooms which the cleaning company dealt with although it was showing again when we left, there were other issues but enough said. Not really value for money in spite of the views it seems to us that a refurbishment is somewhat overdue.

Owner's Response: Hello Linda With respect, we would like to respond to your review, just to put a few things straight if we may. Our house is treated like a home and if guests wish to leave food behind in the freezer for somebody else to use then we cannot see a problem, but we take on board your comments (but in 10 years of owning the house this is the first time there has been an issue). As for the mould on the door seals, we were informed by our house manager that they were easy to clean, and may have been caused because the house had nobody in for 3 weeks before you arrived but we do believe this was sorted out very promptly. The wood burner had been waiting for a new glass and it took longer to arrive than we expected. Unfortunately it took a bit too long. We find that we cannot rush these things if they are on order, a bit like the UK, if it is on order we just have to wait. But there were electric heaters around the house that have been used before by other people and we have never had any complaints before (plus you were aware the glass was on order before you went to stay). As for the towels and the wardrobes....there were only the 2 of you there and we find it hard to believe that you didn't have enough space to hang clothes. There are lots of drawers in the 2 bedrooms...we have had a family of 6 stay there (with no issues) and this is the first time we have had somebody say that there were too many towels. We had a few conversations on the phone before you went to the house and you could have told us to remove the towels, but you didn't. We find that all of our guests appreciate having towels provided as this means they can take more clothes away on holiday As for our house needing a refurbishment...our guests have always made comment on how they like the original Portuguese look about the house...so why change it and we regularly update the furniture and we do get a lot of repeat business and the house has been booked completely out for the last 10 years from March through to November and this speaks volumes to us . Finally...We gave you a very good deal for your 3 month stay and we think that you got very good value for money. Regards John & Jill

Parque da Floresta is a 5 minute drive to the nearest beach at Salema. It's also within minutes of many other unspoilt beaches and villages along this stretch of the Western Algarve coastline. The beaches range from quiet family beaches facing mainly south right up to renowned surfing beaches mainly facing west and are all within a 15 minutes drive. This is also excellent walking country, as its on the edge of the national park and has fantastic coastal walks in all directions.

Parque da Floresta is just over 1 hours' drive from Faro airport. Full details of this simple and mainly motorway drive can be provided if required. Car hire is recommended although taxi transfers to and from the airport are easy to arrange or if you have more time you can take the slow train from Faro to Lagos and then get a taxi from Lagos to the house.

The house is less than a minutes’ walk to either the communal children’s or adult pools, the spa, the gym, the golf course or the golf clubhouse and its restaurants. It's also a 20 minute walk to the tennis courts, resort reception and the Italian restaurant. The nearest beach is a 5 minute drive to Salema and it's a 15 minute drive to the large town of Lagos, with many other villages closer by. The resort is also 9 miles from Cape St Vincent - Portugal’s Lands’ End and Sagres.

Further Details:

On site there are a no. of different themed restaurants from the O'Parque restaurant and bar snack service within the spike bar, a poolside snack bar available during peak times and an excellent Italian restaurant next to the resort reception which also does a takeaway pizza service. The Italian and pool bars are normally only open from early June through to early November.

In addition there is a fully staffed children's fun club available during the school holiday period and a well maintained children's play area. Other local activities including scuba diving, horse riding and water sports are all available within the local area. There are also many excellent restaurants nearby all with a 15 minute walk or drive along the coast in Lagos, Luz, Burgau, Salema, Vila Bispo, Sagres or further inland and which we can give details of on request or there are many flyers on our notice board in the house for places that we or other guests have been to and can recommend.
