House in Deia, Mallorca, Balearic Islands - Peaceful Location, 5 Minute Walk to Deia Shops and Restaurants

This traditional home, built hundreds of years ago, has recently been renovated to a high standard. It retains many original Mallorquin features, yet provides modern comfort. Located in the heart of the village, it enjoys both privacy and spectacular views of the village and mountains. In 2012, a plunge pool was added. Access is by foot, approximately 75 metres from the road where you can park (all guests will be given a parking permit). The kitchen is fully equipped. The living room/dining room has an open fireplace with 2 sofas, plenty of seating, a bridge table and a chess/games table. On the next floor, there are 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Above this, is 'the tower', a large, airy room with 4 shuttered windows overlooking the mountains, and another king-size bed. The house is decorated with antiques and paintings. The 2 terraces are designed for lounging and alfresco dining - all with breathtaking views.

Why Whelan chose Deià

My wife took me to Deia for my birthday in 2003. Like so many before us, we fell in love with the village and the island. We bought our house there and then - though it took 2 full years to completely transform and update it. But it was worth the wait. We just wish we could spend more time there - I still work in both the UK and the US, so time is limited. Every visit is magical though, whatever the tme of year. Mallorca in general is beautiful - no wonder the Spanish Royal traditionally spend their holidays on the island. But Deia in particular is special - Forbes magazine in 2008 included it as one of Europe's 10 most idyllic places to live. There is so much on offer - walking, swimming, exploring, or simply relaxing. Come and enjoy the spectacular views, 15+ top quality restaurants, etc

What makes this house unique

The house, which is in the heart of Deia and close to all the amenities, is hundreds of years old. It has been totally modernised but it retains traditional Mallorquin character. It can be enjoyed any time of the year. In summer, the thick walls keep the house cool - there are also fans in each bedroom. In winter, the underfloor heating downstairs and the radiators upstairs keep the house comfortable all year round.

Deia is a hillside village in the spectacular Tramuntana Mountains of West Mallorca. The mountain views from the private terrace are spectacular.

The nearest swimming is a 5-minute drive away; Valldemossa and Soller a 20 minute drive; Palma and the airport 35 minutes.

Notes on accommodation: Because the house is ancient, the walls are extra thick and keep the temperature of the house cooler than most in the Summer. However, each bedroom is provided with a fan. As for the winter, Ca'n Lan is one of the first houses in Deia to get the morning sun. There is also underfloor heating downstairs, radiators upstairs, and a working fireplace in the living room. The accommodation also includes a cot, bouncy chair, and highchair for any little ones. Outside: The large upper terrace is partly shaded by an olive tree and has 4 sun lounges, a table with chairs, two parasols, an orange tree, and an electric barbecue for alfresco dining. The lower terrace, with palm tree, lemon and almond tree, has a plunge pool and cassita that was built in July, 2012. Utility Room: In the utility room, there is a sink, a washing machine and a separate cloak room that includes a sink and wc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linens and towels are changed weekly, but are for internal use only. The house is cleaned on a weekly basis. Other: Outdoors, there is a machine room, built into the hill, that houses the boiler and a clothes dryer.

The nearest beach is Cala Deia, a 5 minute drive or 30 minute walk. There are many other beaches within a 30 minute drive, including Playa de Soller.


Palma de Mallorca airport 35 minute drive. Car hire is not essential as there are buses, but highly recommended in order to explore the coast and the mountains as well as other parts of the island.


Valldemossa and Soller 9km.

Although Deia is only a small village, it has 14 restaurants, 2 grocery stores, and numerous clothes and craft shops. We have included a large number of tourist books for the guests to enjoy.
