About Sally & Richard

The Aegean Blue Villa is the second home of Sally and Richard. Richard owns his own independent family funeral business and Sally owns her own hair dressing salon. We work in the U.K. for most of the year and live in Crete at our beautiful home at least five weeks each year until we retire, whereupon we will spend most of our time in Crete. Should you decide to stay in our beautiful home for your well deserved holiday I can guarantee that the service you receive will be outstanding both prior and during your stay. The villa is an exclusive private residence not a holiday let and it is very rare to be able to rent such a property directly from the owners who wish you to share this beautiful location. See you soon Sally and Richard.

Sally & Richard purchased this villa in 2005

Why Sally & Richard chose Chania area

We had been contemplating for a number of years the desire to purchase a property abroad for a second home to let to family, friends and select professionals. In October 2005 we ended up in Crete following a friends recommendation and within four days we had found our dream location. I purchased a plot of land in a truly spectacular location overlooking Kera Cove and then had the property built. The stunning views had an immediate effect on both of us and caused great excitement. In an instant we somehow knew that Crete was the place for us, even though we had never visited the island previously. Our dream home was completed in April 2006 and every aspect of our home has been completed to a high professional standard and we are totally delighted with all the work carried out.

What makes this villa unique

The Aegean Blue villa is located in arguably the finest location in the area. Uniquely positioned the Aegean Blue Villa is perfectly situated in a superbly elevated position immediately above the crystal clear sea and virgin sandy beach of Kera, which is only a ten minute walk away. The villa is situated very close to the, blue flag beaches, amenities, tavernas and sea front restaurants, which are all within a ten minute walk from the villa. This is what gives the Aegean Blue Villa a clear advantage over most other villas in the area. Its location is perfect with only thirteen private residences enjoying the exclusive location of Kera, however it still remains very private but central to all the main villages and beaches. Fully licenced by the Greek Tourist Authority (E.O.T.)

Guestbook comments from the manager

We've just returned from a week at the Aegean Blue Villa, and were really impressed with both the villa and the location. The views from the villa are truly amazing, I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere with such beautiful views. This was our first villa holiday, and I think anywhere we stay in the future has got a hard act to follow. There is so much outside living space at the villa, and the pool is a really good size and nice and warm. There is plenty of storage space in the bedrooms (with lots of hangers), the welcome grocery pack was very welcome as we didn't arrive until quite late in the evening. The DVD's provided were a nice touch too, quite a few recent releases which was a nice surprise. We didn't hire a car, and found the location fine, with shops and restaurants within a 10-15 minute walk. Almyrida and Kalyves are both lovely villages, not too touristy, and very pretty. There is a place in Kalyves to book excursions if you want to see a bit more of the island. May 2011

Notes on accommodation: The villa is part of a very prestigious development of thirteen privately owned villas, which won the Bentley international property awards in 2005 as the best development in Greece. Being privately owned the villa has many quality fixtures and fittings, including polished granite floors, fly screens, air-conditioning, fitted wardrobes, heated infinity swimming pool and dress curtains. The villa is ideal for families who do not wish to hire a car as the village of Almyrida with its sandy beaches, shops, tavernas and sea front restaurants is only a ten minute walk away. However we always recommend a hire car to enable you to enjoy the area to the maximum. A hire car can be arranged through a local agent called Flisvos who are based in Almyrida who will have a representative waiting for you at the airport with the car. However you may wish to simply enjoy the villa, its many facilities with the secluded sandy beach and shallow cove of Kera, which is only a ten min walk, unwind and relax. Outside: Set in a 500m sq plot of landscaped gardens including rockeries, flowerbeds with many quality plants, lemon and orange trees, bougainvillea, oleander and numerous terracotta pots and Greek urns. Set just above the swimming pool is a covered alfresco dining area with kitchen and bar area, including a sink, fridge/freezer, barbecue and large table with seating for 6 people. It is rare to find a heated swimming pool, which takes the chill out of the water during the early and late season. The 30m sq solar heated infinity swimming pool, depth 1.0 - 1.2m is ideal for children over five years, as well as adults and is cleaned and tested on regular basis. Around the pool area are sun beds, parasols and an outdoor shower. The large terrace patio area has further seating, a small table, sun beds and throughout the day the villa always enjoys areas of sunshine and shade. The sun sets in a spectacular display to the front of the villa each night as it slowly disappears behind the distant hills. Utility Room: Washing machine is located in the ground floor bathroom, which holds a laundry basket, iron, ironing board and general cleaning equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The villa is fully managed and maintained. Clean towels and linen are included on a weekly change over basis. As the villa is a private residence, guests are kindly requested to keep the villa and its facilities in an immaculate condition at all times. Other: Dining areas are all located in covered areas outdoors. Breakfast and evening meals can be prepared and enjoyed in the outdoor alfresco dining area, which has a large solid table and 6 chairs. Balconies and patios can also be used for alfresco dining.

Dear Richard and Sally

I would like to say how much we enjoyed our holiday in your beautiful Villa in Crete.

The location is spectacular with amazing views. We were blessed with fantastic weather for our stay and this enabled us to make full use of the fantastic facilities and outside space of the Villa.

So much space to sit, eat and relax. The pool was divine and after a day exploring the local beaches of Kalyves, it was always a pleasure to come back to our own little slice of heaven.

I would greatly recommend the Villa and we will certainly be returning.

It was probably the best and most relaxing holiday ever.

Location is perfect, the tavernas and local shops have everything you could want and a visit to Chania Town was a very enjoyable experience.

One again thank you both so much for a delightful holiday.

We are a family of four with a teenage daughter and son, aged 13 and 14 and we have enjoyed a truly spectacular week at the Aegean Blue villa. The villa itself is immaculately clean, beautifully decorated and well equipped, making it feel like home. We particularly enjoyed the stunning, warm pool and outdoor areas, with their captivating views across the White Mountains and Ocean. The children also delighted in feeding and making a fuss of Pandora the cat!

The villa itself is perfectly placed to be able to easily access on foot the local beaches, Tavernas and amenities. As well as thoroughly enjoying the beaches at Kera, Almyrida and Kalyves, we also drove west to spend a day at Elafonisi, where the beach was as beautiful as any we experienced in the Seychelles, with crystal clear, azure waters and pink sand. Other highlights were the fantastic “Dream Adventure” boat trip from Almyrida, in which you speed along the coast, explore the cliff-side caves and snorkel from the boat and also the traditional Greek night at Cretan Corner up in the mountain village of Aptera. Here we had a lovely meal with dancing, which we participated in and greatly enjoyed!

The quality of food and hospitality in the local Tavernas was outstanding; our particular favourites were “Francoise” in Almyrida, perfect for breakfast and lunch time snacks, “Cretan Corner” in Aptera, where we had the best Stifado and “Drosostalia” in Armeni, where we had the largest and most delicious pork chop imaginable!

There is so much to do in the local area for all ages and fitness levels, although, with such stunning views, it is tempting to stay at the villa and relax. We have enjoyed a perfect week and would highly recommend staying here.

Amazing views

Lovely villa, with all (and more) the facilities etc you'd need or want. We all loved the pool (cleaned twice a week), and the outdoor kitchen/eating area, with amazing views over Souda bay. Nearest village (Almyrida) is 10 mins walk away down the hill, we loved the first taverna you come to, Lagos, and ate there a few times, though there's also plenty in the village. Kalives is slightly bigger, and 30ish mins walk away but we drove there as we've two young children. Large beach, plenty of tavernas etc (we can recommend Kritiko). Chania old town & harbour is worth a visit, we also went to Knossos which was very hot and busy, but if you must visit only one Minoan ruin this is the one!

All in all a lovely holiday with fantastic accommodation, we don't usually return to places (as there's always new places to go), but I think we'll be breaking this rule for Aegean Blue Villa!

Aegean Blue Villa was everything we expected and more. The villa has a touch of luxury inside, very tasteful and quality furnishings make it a real home rather than rental property. Outside the property, the choice of seating and lounging areas was great for family members and the infinity pool was the best we have experienced. The views were spectacular that not even video or photos fully reflect.

We spent our week either enjoying the lovely restaurants, cafes and beach at Almyrida within easy walking distance of the villa or down at Kera Beach. Aegean Villa is a perfect base for complete relaxation or exploring West Crete through a rental car or taxi that are easy to hire in the village.

Very Highly Recommended

The Allen family stayed at the villa for three weeks, and we endorse all the favourable remarks made by former visitors. A wonderful villa, easily accommodating six adults, and equipped to a very high standard. As everyone remarks, the views are sensational, and the shooting stars are great. Almyrida is a wonderful spot. Big enough to offer everything you might need yet not so big that you feel overwhelmed. We never had a bad meal. The restaurant on the bend at the bottom of the hill, O Lagos, is very very good. For fish, we liked For fresh fruit & veg, the Pear Tree is unbeatable. If you need to hire a car, the people at Flisvos are first rate, and even helped me repair a puncture on a car that did not belong to them. A little booklet available locally called Discover Almyrida & Kalives On Foot is a mine of useful information, even if you drive. Try the sea caves and cove detailed in Walk 11. Magical. Excellent swimming at Kalyves, too. We would be very happy to return to the Aegean Blue. A truly great time was had by all -- and chicken cooked on a spit has to be tasted to be believed. Terrific.
